Is there a lot of porn being made? Obviously yes. It just seems that there really isn't much that's interesting right now. Is it just me? I hope I'm wrong, but it feels like there really hasn't been any must see stuff in a while. Most of the stars I was into have retired, the handful remaining active don't really seem to be doing much at all. In my opinion, porn was never really the same after Sasha Grey retired, then a certain celebrity had three stars retire, Brooklyn Lee retired due to her boyfriend telling her too or something. Stoya is practically a ghost now. Faye Reagan was a big star, then she disappeared I think after forums started gossiping about her. I'm just really having a hard time getting into new stars. Some stand out, like Bonnie Rotten and Remy LeCroix. For the most part though, I just haven't seen anything that has caught my eye. There's barely any "firsts" in the news, celeb sex tapes are few and unremarkable, and a lot of stars say that they're going to try something new only to never follow through. Stars like Siri are what keep me interested in porn though, ordered a dvd from her site, and got a bunch of additional things included with pleasant messages written on them. She's awesome because she doesn't need to do any of that, and yet she did anyway. She's generous and seems to have a great attitude and a kind heart. She legitimately appreciates her fans, that makes her unique. I'm not saying other stars don't do that stuff, it just seemed new to me. I just think that a lot of things aren't being managed well, fan appreciation seems a little low in most releases these days. I also think that companies are running out of ideas, which is completely understandable, almost everything has been done to death. Plots, setups, and taboos have been used so often that it's just becoming stale. I think that maybe something different and groundbreaking needs to happen to really re-energize the industry. I have no clue what it could be. I feel that the performers, the people behind the cameras, directors, and studios aren't to blame for any of this though. Obviously there will be exceptions, but it seems that this lull was inevitable. There isn't enough news stories about the porn world, there's the occasional tragic news story, but I remember when a big news story was about a Sarah Palin porn parody. That was interesting. Surprise announcements, performers coming out of retirement, things being hard to predict, that was exciting and compelling, back when average porn viewers were desperate to get as much news about an upcoming release as possible. Now, things are kind of "meh", and I think that sucks.
People need a good reason to make good porn. And this reason is money. When the money for porn dries up, then so does professional porn-making. Because professionals need to get paid. Only amateurs work for free. There isn't as much money to be made in porn now as there was before. Because virtually all new porn nowadays gets copied immediately and distributed for free, without any pay or compensation for porn-makers at all. The system for paying porn-makers is broken. And that's why porn-making now isn't as good as it was before.

I tend to watch for certain individuals and follow their body of work. It only starts to get dull when they stop making movies and there is a gap for another person to pick up the slack. I don't know if it ever gets boring. I've been buying porn since it was illegal and you had to buy it under the counter. As a porn viewer, I don't see this "lull" you speak of. In fact I don't think this is a question of the porn world being boring and uninteresting, but rather of you being bored with and no longer very interested in the porn world.

Its a vanilla war between the online sites who can pump out 50 B/G scenes a month and everyone else who does not have the same production capacity. Evil Angel is probably the only studio at the moment who can match the volume of output from brazzers and NA. And with both of those sites you are primarily getting some basic B/G with good production. I'm not sure how successful it will be in the future to try to compete with these companies in straight up B/G sex. I'm thinking that the DVD studios that stick around are the ones who will create a following for some other specialty that Brazzers, NA, BangBros, etc don't cater to. And since there is less money coming in from traditional sources (DVD business) there is less production money to make the movies that are outside of the traditional B/G stuff that the online sites are dominating at the moment.

The way to change it is start new production and distribution. Most consumers don't have the means to do that so porn companies will continue to force all white b/g content on the market. It will probably fail in the long run but they will not change unless they go broke or someone forces them to change.
I guess it depends on your perspective. From mine, things are pretty good. In the gonzo world, you have people like Dana Vespoli putting out creative content, and there is a bunch of dynamic all-sex queer stuff coming out of San Francisco. Then there are companies like Vinegar Syndrome putting out classics restored from the film negative, some on blu, that I don't think anybody imagined they would ever see in such pristine condition. Companies like Babes and X-Art are producing really beautifully made content. Finally, websites are putting out individual scenes that practically constitute short films, with narrative and performers who stay in character. My only complaint is the lack of creativity in features--parodies and feature films that have awesome set design, good acting and dialogue, only for the whole thing to fall apart as soon a 45 min gonzo scene gets wedged in between the 3min narrative portions. I simply can't understand how this would appeal to anyone, and I think it's a shame. REVENGE OF THE PETITES got my hopes up, but now it seems Harry Sparks is no longer working with AMK and the follow up, SAVING HUMANITY, never got released.

It's not often obvious though. I actually am glad that someone did speak up on this topic because ever since I returned the beginning of the year, I have been constantly saying that I feel like the industry has lost its' imagination. Also, a while back I was thinking about writing a blog post called "the pornstar is dead" since there is hardly a "star factor" anymore. I still don't even know who all the contract stars are and some companies stopped contracting all together. I don't think any one thing is responsible for the changes that the industry has gone through although certain influences, such as piracy and corporate consolidation (which had been mentioned) have had a greater impact than others. Money is a huge factor, as it always tends to be. As a performer, what stands out most for me is the decrease in available work, increase in performer turnover, decrease in average pay per scene, fewer companies, and actual creative investment is very rare. Kind of a pay less shoot quicker general outlook (there are exceptions to that, of course). Since all i really hear are opinions coming from the inside, it is interesting to find out that some viewers can notice a difference as well.
The amount of quality in porn scenes is down. It seems like directors are too busy to shoot the next film and so they go with absolutely no scene background or foreplay. It is like the the girl walks as fast as possible into the scene and sucks it. The other one is get her on the couch and talk to the camera (sick) and ask her if she likes it in the ass. These scenes are all on the internet and have no creativity. And it kills chemistry between the performers (esp the women.) And it seems like this problem is getting worse and worse!
There is much valid criticism of the present state of the porn world here. Still, I think the biggest factor in enjoying porn is the quality of the women. If you aren't into the woman on the screen, the sex is going to be dull. Less money has meant weaker casts and that's the core problem the industry faces headed into 2015. I would recommend watching Louis Theroux's documentary called 'Louis Theroux Twilight Of The Porn Stars' He shows a closer insight to the porn world and performers.
Seeing as the first porn movies I saw were all movies done in the 70's and 80's than what follows is going to be partially biased in favor of the types of movies that were made back then but not to the point where I can't appreciate other types of porn. In fact my moto is that variety is the spice of life and I apply that to almost everything I enjoy. The type of movies made in what is often referred to as the golden age of porn tended to fall under two categories. Stag films which were often silent or had some pretty bad dubbing. For those who might not know what a stag film well it's basically the grandfather of gonzo porn where it's usually a man, a woman and a lot of sex. The other type of porn was feature films where the people making the movie are trying to tell a story with an actual plot, some real dialogue, actors wearing the appropriate clothes for the time period of the film and the movie was often shot in various locations as well as on some built stages. What tends to differentiate the features made in those days to most of what has followed is that you had a movie where the actors played a role and part of their role involved them having to have hardcore sex. Often the sex was more gentle and there seems to have been a genuine desire by the filmmakers to make the sex look as real as can be for a porn movie. At some point the type of feature films being made sort of shifted. You still had actors, a plot, dialogue, more or less proper clothes, decent acting but location shooting became more rare and the biggest difference is that where you once had a movie where at some point the actors were going to have sex you now had sex scenes where the filmmaker created a plot to justify the sex scene. The shift at first was hard to distinguish because the people making those movies were true filmmakers with a strong understanding of how films are made. The shift over time became more obvious because those true filmmakers were replaced by a guy with a camera and a general understanding of filmmaking. Not everyone was sad of that change because the sex became more graphic and it was better lit that a lot of those great golden age classics. I confess that I enjoy many of those movies all the while still wishing that there had been a better plot. The final shit in feature films was the introduction of an earlier version of what we now call gonzo porn. The gonzo porn of the 90's tended to have vignettes scenes where there is still a plot but it's very basic and the sex is by far the most important part. You can screw up the plot (sorry for the pun) as long as the sex scene is well done. It can argue that there were still some performers with actual acting talent as they were expected to play a specific role that involved dialogue and basic acting skills. Today most of the feature films tend to be long sex scenes that are very graphic where the filmmaker has to come up with a plot so that the sex scene makes a semblance of sense in the overall movie. Gonzo has suffered the most over the years because there is now no dialogue, no plot, little to no acting, other than for the performers look like they are enjoying themselves(sadly many fail to do that) and the sex is so graphic and sterile that it feels more like a gynecologist worse nightmare than people having sex. I don't find most of todays porn dull. I find it sexually unstimulating.

On the one hand, I'd have to agree that porn is pretty boring right now. I think a large part of that is because all the major producers are locked in to their formats. Every scene from Amateur Allure to GirlsDoPorn to Bangbus to DancingBear to Manojob to Brobang to Naughty Office is pretty much like every other, except that the cocksocket is different. At least one other producer seems to do every scene in an all-white room somewhere, and another, or maybe it's the same one, shoots just about everything with windows in the background. Whether that's because of budget constraints or a lack of imagination or a philosophy of if-it's-broke-don't-fix-it, I don't know. I realize that there are only so many ways to film people having sex. What is happening in porn is more political than entertainment. There is no way everybody can be producing the same thing with the same people by accident. There is too much talent and demand for different products for producers not to notice.
^If only it was political but the reason why everybody produces basically the same stuff is that it's the least expensive to do and the best way to make some kind of profit. What did people think would happen when they stopped paying for porn. Fuck me but it's not rocket science. You don't want to pay for it than guess what. The people making it won't want to make something that might be good because it's going to cost them a lot more than they can hope to make back in sales so they make the least expensive type of porn possible because the measly return on investment makes it a viable option for them. I know you still have some that do a decent job of offering moderately good porn but they are the exception and they are getting to be very rare.

^Where did you read that mainstream movies or TV shows are less pirated? The only things that are different for the mainstream industry now are the same things that have always been different. They have more paying customer to off-set their piracy loss and the Government attempts to stop pirates. None of these things are true for porn. There are another two things that have kept tv and movies from going the way of the decimated music industry, and they are two things that porn cannot do. 1) TV is still tops in terms of media and they will always have advertisers willing to support their programming. And many people did just that the past two weeks. Big entertainment demands the big screen. But otherwise, dvd sales have been hollowed out almost as badly as CD sales due to pirating. The emergence of bigger and cheaper hard drives makes saving a full season of Walking Dead no problem at all. And that's the problem with porn nowadays as well.
Although I think TV as an entertainment delivery system will always be there. The harsh reality for network television is that cable is killing them. I mean how can they compete when every cable channel can show almost anything they want without any problem. You couple that with the fact that for about the same price you will be able to buy that movie on Blu-ray in less than six months and can watch it on your big screen TV at home and you have an always declining movie theater attendance. Hollywood is too stupid to see that and I don't expect them to get smart quickly enough to see a major change in the immediate future so mainstream media is also suffering. In fact one could argue that they are suffering just as much as the porn industry because they have paying customers but their cost of operations for just a single studio is significantly higher than all of the porn industry put together is.I don't know if dvd/Blu-ray sales are all that bad when it comes to mainstream media. You are correct that way too many people don't have any scruples with downloading pirated stuff but as I said above. People don't go to the movie because they will buy the movie when it comes out on dvd/Blu-ray and the loess for movie theaters is the gain for video retail stores. I'm old school so I like to have a physical copy of the media and therefore I still buy plenty of dvd's and Blu-ray's.
But loads of new stuff coming out all the time. The "porn world" doesn't revolve around only San Fernando Valley. There is a boom in DIY porn on sites such as My Dirty Hobby and others. Also, in the UK, the production value on porn output on porn channels has got increasingly more advanced over the years, suggesting bigger budgets because of what I would guess has been a growing customer base. A high- proportion of gonzo style stuff pioneered by the likes of Ben Dover within this output, such as stuff shot by Jim Slip and his naughty horny wife Laura Latex - the best of British getting their British end away consistently!
