I am equally sick of the "Linda Lovelace is full of lies/feminazis!" narrative as I am of the opposing "Linda Lovelace exploited by evil pornographers/forced to do porn at gunpoint!" one. The narrative provided here is fair, balanced, and generous. It's also actually informed, with evidence and examples (!). Good stuff. It deserves a wide audience. [Link]

Not suprising once you hear that Catherine Mackinnon was involved though. I remember being very impressed with how articulate and self-aware Damiano was in that doc and his son is equally thoughtful and well spoken here. I agree that the hatred dumped on Linda by some seems disportionate, after all it is at least clear that Traynor was very abusive. The Uschi episode was impressive as her background was not what most would have suspected, very hip and intellectual. The Sven episode is pretty disturbing so far, interested to see where it goes. Unfortunately, Hollywood would rather tell one side of the Linda Lovelace story than deal with nuance. It's hard to even decide where you would focus a 100-minute screenplay. To the degree that the interview offers a character arc, it's "learning to live with manic depression". But it would be to easy to adopt well-established tropes about porn moguls taking advantage of vulnerable girls, and that was not the story that Serena was telling. [Link]

I actually really liked the Hodas podcast in particular as the business side of things needs to be documented as well, the shock of recognition when he mentions hooking up with Bob Wolfe, so many early performers stories start with his loops. A friend of mine who doesn't know much about porn but supports sex worker rights watched the documentary that featured John Leslie prominently and she admitted to being surprised at how charming, 'normal' and happy he and his wife seemed.
