I don't know if this is a realistic project, but I'm gonna give it a try.

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/) is an online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. It's been growing very rapidly lately. Since the articles and content mirrors the interests of interrs in general, I think the content on porn and porn stars is lacking (probably an understatement).

So, I'm encouraging everyone with time on their hands to start writing articles on porn and porn stars. With the combined knowledge of ADT, we should at least be able to provide articles on the most famous porn stars, many of them not even mentioned there today.

here are some examples:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenna_Jameson
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_North_(porn_star)

Some stars who doesn't have an article yet:
Avy Scott
Sunrise Adams
Nikki Dial
Candie Evans
Francesca Le
Juli Ashton
Raylene
And I'm sure you can think of many more...

The articles don't have to be long and extensive, just some useful facts and general info is a good start.

Uploading a picture is also a great idea. Make sure to use a picture from the star's home page or a dvd cover, because these are considered public domain and there won't be any copyright issues.

This thread is for any questions and bragging about your additions :)

Edit: fixed links, spelling.

At least we know now what´s makes you a
Pornographic actor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

A pornographic actor or a porn star is somebody who appears in pornographic movies, live sex shows or peep shows. Many actors/actresses may appear nude in films (usually rather briefly) or on stage but even if they depict sexual behavior they are not considered erotic actors. To be considered an erotic actor or actress, one must appear chiefly in porn movies and be filmed in explicit sexual acts, usually with close-up shots of the genitalia during sexual acts and where explicit nudity is involved. Most erotic actors use stage names.

Something to get you started:

Clicking "edit this page" at the top of an article will show you how it is constructed.

Linking, using bold/italics, headings etc is very easy. Try visiting an existing article (like the one on jenna) and click edit. Then you will quickly understand how to make a similar article about someone else.

To start a new article, just search for the title, like "Avy Scott" and you will be given the option to start the article if it doesn't exist already.

6 months later, and now everyone but Francesca has an article of those I listed. Probably not because of this thread, but it's nice to see that the world's biggest encyclopedia now have thorough articles about porn.

The thing I don't like about some of the Wikipedia pornstar articles is that they give the real names of some stars who I don't believe want their real names to be public knowledge. Or at least I had never seen their real names published anywhere else. It makes me wonder if I should e-mail the stars and tell them about it, and how they can edit the real name out.

Apparently, there's a template for IAFD entries. I found out once Wikipeia became a ranked referring site. Someone wrote an article about us and made a template for referring to stars.

In the links section, you use the format:

* {{iafd name/id=<IAFD_Perf_ID>/gender=<IAFD_GENDER>/name={{PAGENAME}}}}

So for Aurora Snow, you'd use:

* {{iafd name/id=AuroraSnow/gender=f/name={{PAGENAME}}}}

Template pages:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Iafd_name

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Iafd_movie

I'm bringing this thread up again, just as a showcase on how much Wikipedia has improved in so short time. Amazing, huh? From almost no porn coverage, to virtually everyone in the biz.

Nearly all porn stars now have an article, including those mentioned here. I thought up about 20 other "new" names and I could find entries for all of them except one (Paige Turner). Wiki along with ADT is really useful for me when I "discover" someone new.

Wiki is great, inaccurate & misleading, but great for initial info. Like an almanac more than an encyclopedia. I love InformationPleaseAlmanac.

But keep checking on pornstars. You'd be surprised that one day one of your favorites suddenly has an entry opened on her/or him. Such as I kept typing in MARI POSSA and now an entry is opened for her. Dig that sexy pic of Mari in tube like dress. Wow!

I don't like wikipedia. everybody that knows something about me can publish facts from my personal life there now. It's almost impossible to get something deleted. I don't think it's a good idea

Only a handful of real names are revealed. And, quite frankly, those that are revealed are only there because the performer spilled the beans themselves. So, for instance, Jenna Haze stated that her real name was Jennifer Corrales (I believe she mentioned it in an early interview). Well, at that point, the cat's out of the hat, wouldn't you say?

In general, I find Wikipedia bios to be approximately as factually accurate as those on IAFD. Errors can be found in both, though they aren't terribly common. But, in time, Wikipedia will more than likely overwhelm IAFD. The simple fact that they have so many folks working on that project lends to it being updated more often. That's a big issue, since IAFD typically takes quite a long time to provide links to new movies.

There’s some good points and bad points about Wikipedia.

I find it useful, but I can understand that someone in the public eye may have some concerns about how anyone can post anything about them. Unless it is then deleted quickly, some mis-information may become regarded as fact.

I did read recently about a golfer, Fuzzy Zoeller, initiating a lawsuit, but he had to to it against the company where the remarks came from, not wikipedia.

I agree this isn't so good. It's one thing to be a fan and follow someone's career and enjoy their work. It's another thing to publish information that they don't want made public.

We tried to create a page for ADT at one point and it was removed. The reason given was that ADT lacks "notability" or some other bullshit. Wikipedia appears to me to be a loosely knit organization of tightly held fiefdoms.

A name is just a name, you can change it whenever you feel like it. I don't see the problem. Keeping your 'real' name from a dedicated fan, or stalker, is probably impossible anyways. Being famous sucks.

I dont want to get in the middle of anything but this happened with Jewel on her entry just reading about her birth year. She keeps correcting(?I believe it's her because she's stated her date herself here on ADT) but some other posters visiting her entry keep changing to incorrect year. She(?Wiki Jewel)has since dressed some of the folks down about the changes.

They remove as many as people post. One guy in particular thinks every interview link is spam. If Wiki could get rid of a few control freaks who have decided they should be in places of authority over certain sections people might be more inclined to add info.

Personally I find interview links very helpful. That's why I started adding them to our star pages.

here's the thread about ADT in Wikipedia from November of last year.

Yes, turd sandwiches are more notable than this website.

We had a wiki page at one point that was up for a few weeks before one of the Lords of the Fiefdom decided to pull the plug on it. In contrast this one hasn't been pulled, it is most likely part of a different Fiefdom.

As far as I'm concerned Wiki is a useful source of information as is ADT, IAFD and even Luke Ford, amongst others.

But NONE of them should be taken in isolation as there is an awful lot of misinformation out there and sites like Wiki are especially susceptible.

Yes but without this sterling, perfectly obvious resource, any potential dedicated fan/stalker would have to jump through a few more hoops to get a star's real name and other personal info. Any idiot with a computer can look up their favorite porn star on Wikipedia. Not everyone knows other avenues of finding people's personal info. And even if they do know, they may not be willing to go to the necessary lengths in order to get it.

And Katja has a point. Anyone who knows her (or anyone else who has a Wiki page) can edit and add information that they may not (probably don't) want made public. How would you like people from as far back as your childhood publishing embarrassing info about you, your past, your family or your friends where millions could access it?

I like reading people's biographies as much as the next guy and this could be cool but how do you make sure the person's privacy is respected?

Katja I figured out how to do it and I removed your name as of 3.12.07 @ 16:30 PST, that won't stop someone from putting it back up, but for now it's gone. Also when you edit wikipedia they log your IP address so if wikipedia wants to give me grief I may need your help. -BD

It's the price you pay as an actor, I don't see why porn actors seem more bothered by it than mainstream actors. Biographies always include a birth name.
People using information on a person in a malicious way should of course be held responsible, but censorship doesn't work very well.

"Biographies always include a birth name" = no

"It's the price you pay as an actor" = there is a price???

"I don't see why porn actors seem more bothered by it than mainstream actors" = one day, you will understand when your sister will tell you that she is not really a mainstream actress.

by the way, what is your real name???

Come on now. Nobody wants their full name or other personal information plastered online. Or, at least, it takes balls to do it, considering how many crazy mofos there are out there.

I don't think this is the price of being famous. Anyone who doesn't respect someone's privacy enough to refrain from publishing highly personal information about them against their wishes and without even bothering to ask if they mind is most certainly not a fan and obviously cares nothing for that person. If they wanted this information out there, they'd probably do it themselves and let it be known it was done with their blessing.

I could pick some random chick that I know and create a web page about her with her full name and so on and so forth but why would I want to do that? And furthermore, do you think she'd appreciate it?

No-one knows if Katja's 'real name' is her real name. I would need to verify this in some way (well, she did it herself). But if she feels uncomfortable with it of course wikipedia should remove this info and perhaps lock the entry.

If my adress, phone and social security number were to be published on the internet I would be worried, but my name is just another name, no one could use this information against me. My IP probably tells more about me.

Because porn stars fuck on camera. It's as raw and real as it gets. Sometimes porn stars fuck ugly guys like ____(insert ugly guy's name here)____. When Mr. Stalker Type sees Mr. Ugly Dude banging a hot chick his fantasy world can start to crumble into a warped version of reality. "If she'll fuck him she'll fuck me too" and thus the obsession begins. A few internet searches with her real name or a $45 online background check and Mr. Stalker Type has tons of info to locate Ms. Hot Porn Chick and pursue his divine courtship. It starts with flowers on the doorstep and hopefully ends at the restraining order phase before it goes any further.

IMO, porn stars appear more accessible than Hollywood stars.

So what's your point. My response is to Katja not you. If I was famous and somebody clicked some keys to find my real name I wouldnt give a motherfuck. Stalk me, you do at your own risk! But I digress. I dont get the hostility from you. My point was that her name was at a certain other website. Did I mention the website? NO I would if SHE had wanted. So I left it alone. One way, IMHO, to not draw attention to a name or aspect is to not bring it up. That's just my opinion.

I see that Wiki have not reinstated any name. It now says "Removed at the request of the performer".

Maybe I was too subtle in the way that I put my comment yesterday.

Several years ago - let's say 8 years -there were still only a few sources of information about people, be they porn stars, movie stars or anyone else in the public eye.

Now there is a huge amount of information. But, in my opinion, many sites do not want to go to the time and expense of researching information. They want to get it cheaply and quickly. So they buy information or they leech it from elsewhere.

I compile and publish the monthly pornstars birthday list on rame and over the years have had several approaches to sell my database. I've always declined - I've sometimes wondered how much it was worth, but I've still always declined.

If a person posts information other people will read it, record it and pass it on - sometimes claiming it as their own. Sometimes the information changes as it passes from person to person. This is a classic Chinese Whisper scenario.

Sometimes the initial poster might discover that the original information was wrong. But they can't delete it because it's already out there. And so misinformation is created.

So it is probably best to say nothing (or say it quietly and in private) because in reality nobody now knows if what they read is true information or misinformation or even true information that became misinformation, or even misinformation that is believed to be true information.

When the information comes from 2257 recordations, it's probably quite reliable. The real problem is the dirtbags who publish this info.

As far as concerns of Wiki in comparison to IAFD, it's apples & oranges. I don't think it's their mission to go into biographical detail, or to point out what movie was their break-through. They provide simple details about a performer's biography, and the rest is attention to detail about the films each one stars in.

because people think they know you if they have your real name. sometimes fans think it's a good idea to come and call me by my real name. like I pay more attention to them. But it makes me angry because it's not something I wanted to be out there. unfortunately there are a lot of jealous people that knew me before I did porn and they obviously get off on shit like that.

It doesn't really make a difference for me now. it's just one of these little ugly things you do to annoy somebody.

Hey Katja,
Although it has been removed from the page, if you google "katja kassin birth name" then the first result is a wikipedia page. So somewhere deep within your wikipedia entry the name is still written.

That Tony Eveready entry is very funny, and obviously written by either a publicist or a fanboy. I think it might get edited by Wikipedia for being to tongue in cheek (ball in cheek?) and not complying with standards of encyclopedia entries. I've been burned for writing entries that are too flippant and not sober enough.

BTW, where can I see the Booyah video?
