Well supposedly Apple's 16K VR headset is expected next year. 16K is pretty good quality, but of course, these headsets aren't going to come by cheap. I'd expect at least another 5 years before high quality headsets become "somewhat" affordable to the non-commercial user.

I have an Oculus Go and have dabbled in VR porn. It's ok but can be difficult to find good scenes. A couple issues I have found:
1. The vast majority of it is POV. I don't like POV mainstream porn and don't really like it in VR either, I prefer to watch voyeur scenes, but they are relatively scarce.
2. When you do find a voyeur scene, the girls can often get far too close to the camera. It ruins the effect when they get so close you cant focus or they exceed the stereo cameras overlapping field of view. The production values need to be higher.

On VR bangers, when I go to download a scene and click on Oculus as my device, it greys out the 8K option but the 8K option is still a live link and lets you download the file even though it's grey. Does this mean the file won't work on Oculus? It won't upload into Skybox but that's not all that unusual as I have about 22 downloads that currently that won't upload.

The Skybox app on the headset will have regular updates because that is the player and so they keep it up to date more often. I've updated it at least 5 times or more on the headset. On the PC, I install it and never have ran an update. I don't think it would hurt to check if updates are available on the desktop version but I think most of the updates are all on the headset app and don't require that you update the desktop each time as well. It seems to work fine for me just updating the headset only and not worrying about the desktop. If I started to experience problems, I'd likely then look at updating the desktop app.
For all VR porn sites, when you click download, it gives you options to choose your device. When you choose it, it will show you the best download link version for your device. Primary is the main download link, mirror is another link to that same file version if the primary link doesn't work. It's basically the same file just hosted on two different servers incase one is down. So you always want to choose primary first since that should always work 99% of the time. If it doesn't, you can try the mirror link as a backup option.
If it greys it out, or hides other download options, it usually means those file versions are not the best version for your device. If it's not clear what version to download, I will usually just download the largest/best file size available and try it and see. That's really all you can do is try it and see if it will work for your device. Usually when you select Quest 2, it is the best version out of all the options.
The perspective distortion has improved dramatically in the last 2 years. I think it's now at the level where it's really accurate and realistic now and definitely worth checking out if you haven't checked it out in the last few years, or haven't tried it out with a great headset like the Oculus Quest 2.
Older VR porn that used older VR cameras had more perspective distortion. A lot of the more modern VR porn shot with newer cameras and technology tends to have less to no noticeable perspective distortion. After they generate enough revenue, or build up a big enough following/fanbase, they can launch their own websites and have some exclusive membership content on their sites.

In regards to the Oculus Quest 2 requiring a Facebook account to use it, I am not a fan of that either. If you have any problems at all setting it up, you can always just return the Quest 2 but I had no problems setting it up with a fake Facebook account.
As much as it sucks, by them doing it you are saving at least $300. They are trying to do some ad revenue with it which allows them to sell it at a loss or for less than retail. So you are getting some of the most advance VR tech at a deep discount. All you have to do is look at the other options to see. They sell a corporate model with no FB login required for twice the price. Other VR headsets are $200-$300 more and if you have the funds for that, you can go that route but I think the $300 Quest 2 is good enough. It's worth the hassle of the initial setup, because the experience is still amazing. You seriously should give it a try and if you don't like it, return it within the return window.

If you already have a Quest 2, it will do an update and you can then choose to use a Facebook account or not. I just continue using a fake Facebook account since it has all my apps in their app store connected to it. The downside is you technically need to sign in to their app store to be able to download and keep track of your downloadable/purchasable apps like Skybox as far as I'm aware, so you'll still likely need to sign up on their site to get certain downloadable apps but there may be ways around this now or in the near future.

So if you find yourself favoriting a lot of stuff on SLR that exceed your monthly download limit, you can later sign up on POVR and do unlimited downloading there and they carry a lot of the same scenes. So you can reserve the SLR exclusive downloads to your SLR subscription and download those first.
On some sites the downloads expire after a while so most people are using Jdownloader to change out the url to not lose download progress if they give you a new url link after it times out. SLR doesn't support Jdownloader so most are using Free Download Manager to manage multiple downloads at a time with a set bandwidth limit that lets you keep using your internet for other things while they download.
I am seeing this as a growing trend on other VR sites. There may come a time when POVR starts limiting downloads per month as well. For those that wait longer to get into VR, by the time you get into it, what you'll probably see are prices of membership sites going up because their catalogues are larger and or further limitations on download limits. These limitations don't really effect people that have used the sites before and are renewing/coming back and already downloaded a majority of what they want with an unlimited plan or higher download limits, but mostly will effect brand new users trying out VR for the first time. 300 scenes for $20 a month is an insane deal, 150 is still really awesome. Maybe one day it will be 60 downloads a month or 30 a month. I think what messes most people up is they wait a few weeks to start downloading or until the end of their subscription. If you wait until the last week to start downloading all your favorites and you have 150+ you'll only be able to download 30 so you have to start them right away to get the links activated on those videos. If it times out or something after, you have up to 30 days to get the link again on those videos without it counting again towards your total.

Ive been considering recently whether or not to upgrade to a dedicated VR headset like Oculus Rift. I have played around with my old VR smartphone headset with my Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, and while its pretty decent, its nothing special.

One thing that the flat-screen experience will never be able to adequately replicate that feeling of closeness. 1. It's not an insignificant amount of money. I would still like to do something else with it other than watching porn. Sadly I'm not that into gaming 2. I took a look at the VR studios- they're pretty vanilla. I really liked virtual taboo and dark room vr just because the premises are hardcore. The sex itself is no different from other sites.
