cubesnake Senior Member 3858 Posts 10/02	Posted - Apr 1 2008 : 11:43PM Hi, just recently i came across a problem i can´t seem to find a setting for ... it has to be a flaw then, i guess. Here´s the problem. If you have one email account and several email adresses(identities) for that account. Lets say if you receive an email from identity-A and then reply to it thunderbird doesn´t use identity-A it uses the main identity. You can however switch it by hand but i would have guessed thunderbird should be able to "get it" by itself I hope i explained it good enough to get help Cube [Link]

Sure there might be multiple aliases configured for that mailbox but those aliases are purely a function of routing mail on the mail server. A generic email client (POP3/IMAP) isn't "aware" of the aliases configured on the server. Other mail clients like Exchange might be able to make these determinations but it's beyond the scope of a POP3 or IMAP client application. [Link]

I can choose the alias inside my mailclient (thunderbird) by hand. If i´d be sending you such a mail from alias-1 (or 2 or 3) you wouldn´t know about my main_adress (untill i choose to switch to it). The mailserver doesn´t change it to the mainadress. I simply don´t know why tb doesn´t use the receipient alias as originator for a new mail Cube [Link]

Thunderbird just fetches whatever is sitting in that bucket no matter who it's addressed to. It's a limitation of the POP3 and IMAP protocols. Every email client that uses POP3 or IMAP works this way. It's not unique to Thunderbird. [Link]

Clarifying: If you email pr@ (which goes to jacco@) and I reply it will use pr@ as sender, because I have set up an identity for pr@. And it works automagically. So it is possible. Jacco [Link]

If so, after reading everything I could find in the Knowlege Base there at the mozillazine site, I'd search the forums there. If that didn't turn up a clue, then I'd post in the forums there. [Link]

I even looked at the plain msgtext and i only found my alias there. All Tb has to to is to look at the to: field (in a received mail) and use that as from in a reply ... but it simply does not Cube [Link]
