I appreciate seeing your responses to question on VCA DVD releases.
Is it possible to give us a list of upcoming releases? The VCA Website seems a bit our of date.
Also, is it at all possible to create an option on the DVD to eliminate the ugly "multiple angles" icon on some VCA films? There are some of us who think that the graphic distracts the look of the movie.

I was curious about the reason for those irritating logos too.
Every DVD player I have used so far(which includes machines by Pioneer, Toshiba and Sony) is capable of flagging the presence of multiple angles by displaying a camera icon on screen, which can be switched on or off in the player's own menu. That way anyone wishing to view the main event without distraction can do so by disabling the angle icon in the menu. Similarly, the few people in the world who believe that multiple angles are worthwhile can enable the icon and play with this useless feature till their heart's content.
The picture quality on VCA DVDs has generally been light years ahead of the competition, so it would be a shame if they ruined the effect by putting unremoveable logos on screen. Vivid began the trend and now other studios such as Private and VCA have apparently decided to copy them. Why?
If this aberration finds it's way onto multiple angle discs in future, I simply won't buy them.
Wit and VCA please take note.

As for your inquiry about the angle icon...Unfortunately, there are many players on the market which do not offer their own icons. This is true especially for many 1st generation players (which comprise about 10% of the marketplace) and most DVD-ROM drives. Again, this relates to issues surrounding standards for DVD playback devices. We certainly have standards for content creation, but there is such a wide discrepancy in standards for players that is very frustrating.
So, in the meantime, we will certainly take note and try and make the icons as unobtrusive as possible.

Even though some DVD players don't have their own special icon to indicate multi-angles, they all support sub-titles. Couldn't you just utilize the sub-title function to indicate when a multi-angle is present? Columbia did something like this on their Ghostbusters disc where they had a "Mystery Science 3000" thing going with Ivan Reitman.
All you would need to do is is add something in the DVD menu saying if you want to the multi angle icon, turn your subtitles on.
One of the great things about DVD's is the ability to provide variety (different languages, different subtitles, etc...).
I have turned off the On-screen option on my DVD player, primarily because I HATE to see the camera icon on the screen when a multi angle option is available, so it really sucks when the DVD author decides for me that he (or she) doesn't want me to be able to turn this feature off.

Bill- I agree entirely and using subtitles could be the perfect way around this problem.

I was aware that the Ghostbusters DVD included the option of showing the commentary participants in silhouette, but I didn't realise it was flagged using subtitles.
Wit- I hope you can incorporate this outstanding idea in future releases. It makes sense to me and would surely keep everyone happy.

I just wanted to add a couple of other mainstream titles that have used subtitles in the manner in which I have proposed. These are probably better examples because, unlike Ghostbusters, these turn on and off at appropriate times notifying the viewer of additional viewing options.
The first title, is "Tomorrow Never Dies" Special Edition. This disc had an indicator that would display whenever story boards that corresponded with the current scene were available. The second title was "The Matrix". On this disc, there was a feature that they called "Follow the white rabbit". A white rabbit would appear on the screen whenever there was a behind the scenes feature or alternate angles available for the current scene.
What makes both of these options great is that the viewer indicates ahead of time whether they want to take advantage of them or not. If they choose not to do so, the icons never appear.
It seems to me that this would be the perfect way to handle a multiple angle icon.

It's nice to know that I am not the only one who despises the on-screen multiple angles graphics.
To me, they just ruin the look of the video. On one particular Private Video, the damn icon actually obscures some of the faces of female performers during pivotal scenes. And of course, nothing is more distracting than to see VIVID DVD in bright blue letters while watching Dyanna Lauren do what she does best.
I hope video companies take note of this topic and do something to preserve the look of their DVD transfers.
