However, if you are buying discs from companies like Evil Angel, VCA, Wicked, Private, etc..., then your figure has to be off.

The other possibility is that you own a first or second generation Toshiba DVD player. There are MANY DVD's that are incompatible with these players. If this is the case, then the problem is more with the player than the discs.

I'm currently experiencing a major incompatiblity problem between my Apple DVD Player (admittedly not one of the finest pieces of software in the universe) and Sin City DVDs. There appears to be a problem with the authoring on the sex ad (which of course comes up first, before the movie) that has repeatedly crashed my computer. I'm waiting to hear back from their tech support, and I'll let you all know what I discover.

I usually buy 5-10 discs at the same time. So when I receive the shipment, I basically scan through each discs immediatly to determine if there are any problems. (I do this because I found a few problems with "Sunshine" discs a month or two after I bought them just because I didn't get around to watching them, and then I felt it was too late to return them).

If I do find a problem, I will e-mail the store with details of the problem (including the model(s) of the players that I am using) and let them make a call on how to fix the problem. For the last two problems, one store (correctly) determined that the problem was unique to the disc and shipped me a replacement, and refunded me the cost of the return postage. For the second problem, the store checked their inventory and found that their entire inventory of that title had the same problem. They asked me to return the disc, and refunded my purchase price plus the cost of return shipping.

If you have problems, make sure that you let the retailer know. If you don't tell them, and therefore they don't tell the manufacturer (by returning the discs to them), then the manufacturers have no incentive to improve quality.

I have now about 100 adult DVDs and 150 non adult DVDs and so far never had any problem playing any of them. Don't know if it's significant for the US talkers though as about 95% of my DVDs come from the European market.

It would be nice if more online retailers used the postage-paid envelope idea. Most places I have dealt with require you to mail back the defective copy at your own cost, and then wait for a replacement when it is received and examined. However, Video Age has GREAT customer service. If you get to know one of their sales reps, and place phone orders through them, they really take care of you.
