If you went to a member of the mainstream media (i.e. an actual reporter or editor of a major newspaper or network or cable news division) with any of these names the response would be Who? Remember you are battling Larry Craig, Michael Vick, Brittany Spears, Mel Gibson, Barry Bonds, Don Imus, Amy Winehouse, Anna Nicole Smith, and Owen Wilson for their attention.
There are deaths and murders in just about any industry. I wonder how many florists died in the past 5 years. Suspicious, I say. Sex sells. That's why cable news outlets will do stories about strippers and porn stars. And some audience members like to feel judgmental. "Look at those immoral people!" they shout. That's what I think.
If the media had a roll of racy pictures (that could be shown on TV) that they could scroll endlessly along with the story, they'd be doing it already. If something bad happened to Jenna Jameson, God forbid, it would be all over the media... especially FOX as they decry her and the industry... endlessly

Other than Zoey Zane, I don't think the media gives a shit about any of the people mentioned in the original post. And the Zoey Zane story is already off the news cycle for the most part.

The Zoey Zane story went to the back page when the police said that her death wasn't related to her porn site. If a story isn't sensational, chances are, mass media wants nothing to do with it.

Just as long as no women in the industry whose first name ends in acy marry any guys with the last name of Peterson everyone will be okay.
When you look at what has happened in the "normal" entertainment biz, Benoit, Barry Bonds, Mike Vick, Owen Wilson, the adult world is tame in comparison. Tragedy befalls us all no matter what venue in life we are in. If you ask me the adult stars are the "normal" ones.
Yeah, if you want to look at a very bad year of a particular industry, you need not to look any further than my industry, professional wrestling. Over the past 10 years alone, the death rate and problematic elements within pro wrestling is beyond belief. I'm happy to finally hear that there will be Congressional Hearings about this in the near future. As for porn, this has been a very troubling and disturbing year in the industry. I hope that 2008 will be much better in terms of PR and health within the business.
As a wrestling fan, and somebody who's done the research I'm going tell you look at the causes of death before you're so happy that Congress is after them. A lot of those deaths had nothing to do with wrestling. Several more had nothing to do with Vince, and while his company is the largest it doesn't make him any more responsible for what happens outside his company. As for porn deaths, if we are being honest with ourselves a disproportianate amount of porn stars die. Same with wrestlers (specially of the 80's). It's not that everybody is doing stupid things but all entertainers of all walks seem be prone to getting messed up. They drink more, they do more drugs and they have more time to get into trouble. It's a reflection on the life style. Porn stars probabably end up in more "random" trouble with stuff but lets be perfectly honest. Between Lindsey Lohan, Britany Spears, the Olsens and Paris it's a miracle none of them have been killed. One was driving the wrong way on the freeway for fucks sake. A Marine I can tell you that the military in general and Marines in particular also have insane suicide rates. Some people can't handle certain life styles wether it's having too much money (most celebrities), too much blunt force trauma and spending too much time on the road (many wrestlers are on the road and/or working 300+ days a year) or just what ever random trouble than porn stars get into. Marines live in a high stress enviroment and are often separated by an entire country (if not continent) from their support base of family and friends. There's nothing quite like spending Christmas in the barracks with a bottle cus everybody but Jack and Jose went home for the holidays. My point is that while if you want to investigate and find out for yourselves what is happening in any or all of these fields please do. Maybe something can be done to make it better. But don't lie to yourself and say well we just got unlucky this year, but nothing is wrong here. There are things wrong with all of those ways of life. Ultimately though there is no draft so nobody is in any of those positions outside of their own will.
I believe your interpretation is somewhat misleading most notably your post title. The group that is most likely to use this information is Anti-Pornography groups, these types of groups will highlight the deaths as a signal of an industry which has no control and is ruining lives. But in reality for all the people in the industry the number of deaths is immaterial (immaterial in number, I value human life)so its all relative.
i gotta say backdoorman you gotta be a pro to pull it off, they are athletes even actors have a pro guild , you know tom hanks never had HIV, doesn't mean philadelphia wasn't a real movie I hate hate hate pro wrestling, and every one i have known involved with it has been a big old mess, but they were pros

^ I agree that they have to be great athletes. I just don't like the pro connotation at all. It's pure entertainment ( for some ) but not like pro football or major league baseball. Never saw the draw.
What's there to deny? People who make porn are obviously more prone to risk-taking than the average. That's why they don't care much about having sex with strangers without condoms. And that's why they don't care much about being seen as sex-fiends in public. And apparently their risk-taking extends beyond sexual matters. The way they drive cars, the way they drink alcohol and take drugs, and the way they party in their private lives is more risky than the way average people do these things. But just because many people in porn are more prone to risk-taking doesn't necessarily mean that there is something wrong with making porn. Association doesn't necessarily mean causation.
You get paid to do it...you are a pro. Pretty simple. I know you'd like to show your disapproval and implied superiority by saying they shouldn't be called professionals, but it isn't for you to decide. There's a certain amount of hyperbole in most forms of entertainment or selling a product/service.
I would think that if you told someone that whenever you see their chosen profession (note PROFESSION) worthy of what you call a "horse laugh", and that they should not be considered professionals, it implies offense, regardless of whether or not you preface it with a "no offense". What if I were to say... "No offense, but I don't think you deserve to be considered a professional at what you do, because I find your talents to be more of a joke than skill." That's essentially what you said. Those that chose that profession would probably take offense. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, just as others are entitled to challenge it. :)

Aw crap I didn't mean to start a controversy. Just that I can't in my mind compare them to a legitimate professional sport. I know they are talented and they are in a profession but it's just plain silly. It is entertaining to a lot of people but what about people who actually do wrestle? There is high school wrestling, college, olympic etc. Those people don't really have a "pro" sport to go to. If they go to professional wrestling they are cheapening their sport in my opinion. If something is rigged it shouldn't be called "pro". That's just my opinion and I can't help it if you disagree or don't like it. And by the way, they certainly are skilled but they are employing their talents in a very big joke ! Unfortunately there are tons of people that don't even know that. They think it's all real. I guess if you get paid to do it you are a professional joke. Now I fully expect a retort with my post in quotes and someone to pick it apart but you won't change my mind and I won't argue anymore about it. nanananner :-)
Then don't. They are sports entertainment. They are entertainers, get over it. Can you bet on pro wrestling? No. Do the results get put into the newspapers? No. It's entertainment, and people like you that just can't wrap your minds around the fact that people that love it. You don't have any problem with The Terminator being fake and people cheering and jeering and plopping down money for it, yet the same can't seem to apply to professional wrestling? The old "people think it's real" argument is so 1980s, today's wrestling fan knows better, and they willfully suspend disbelief in order to be entertained. People would ask me in the porn store if Bang Bus was real. The fact that people asked me showed how well Bang had pulled it off, if you gotta ask, then mission accomplished. Many great forms of entertainment apply the willful suspension of disbelief. Movies, magic, theatre, politics ;). Even something like stand up comedy...you don't REALLY believe all those situations happen do you now? In my opinion the appreciation of pro-wrestling by wrestling fans is dwarfed by the disapproval, disdain and non-comprehension of it's detractors.Ummm...perhaps you've never heard of MMA? You are aware of the explosion of Ultimate Fighting and the like. So yes, there is a pro sport for them to go to. And perhaps you are completely unaware how many AMATEUR wrestlers moved onto PROFESSIONAL wrestling. Wikipedia Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Hass, AJ Styles. All of those were champion amateur wrestlers who went on to professional wrestling. Angle was an Olympic Gold Medalist even. I'd wager that a high percentage of professional wrestlers have amateur wrestling backgrounds, and that many amateur wrestlers aspire to be professional wrestlers. I'm not trying to change your mind, only you can do that. Whether you do or do not, I could care less. When you voice your opinion of something, you are opening yourself up to criticism of that opinion, whether you like to hear/read it or not. Man did we get off-topic here. ;)
I meant to say that just because all these people in porn business had various accidents and died prematurely, doesn't necessarily mean that their involvement in porn had something to do with it. They may simply be more prone to risk-taking than are other people. That's why they got involved in porn and that's why they had their accidents.
Agreed. Jenna is the poster girl of the entire industry, the example of how you can enter porn and become rich and famous. She and Tera Patrick are probably the only two really newsworthy profiles in porn. These other people and events, however tragic, simply aren't. Eventually, they might perhaps turn up in some negative documentary about porn, but that's nowhere near a media field day.
Will all the wrestlers go to a wrestling site and post your crap. This is for porn crap. So what's up with the Chasey Lain fiasco. No explanation anywhere. That could have fit into this threat if it had been true.
Mod: Hi. You're not a Mod. The wrestling stuff was a tangent, but a relevent one to the thread, given the content. I also believe we had forum members posting about wrestlers, not "wrestlers". Have a bit more respect for the other posters. thanks. scipio
I've done the research to, and have been doing so long before the Chris Benoit situation occurred; so much that I'm currently writing a book about it. The majority of those deaths were directly related to the professional wrestling industry; at least the deaths since the mid-1970s. Professional Wrestling has itself to blame for the problems and deaths within the industry. Yes, Vince isn't the only one to blame for professional wrestling's problems, but there's a ton of blame that should be rested upon his shoulders. Even if some of the casualties weren't directly related to his company, several of them are still related to the company in some form. Every since he decided to change the course of the industry from a territorial establishment into his own monopoly in the United States beginning in 1983 after Vince Sr. passed away, Vince has pretty much allowed and some might say encouraged his performers to look a particular way and execute their characters to such a degree that they use whatever measures to please him and as we call in the industry "get over" with the spectator. Prior to Vince Jr.'s ownership of the then World Wrestling Federation and the former World Championship Wrestling and other independent organizations during the 1990s, professional wrestlers with body-building type bodies were virtually unheard of. Now, as far as drugs as a whole are concerned, well, that's been in professional wrestling for decades and the problem is that no one has given one damn about attempting to regulate the drugs in the industry. No promoter, not state commissions, not prominent wrestling promotions, not anyone. The WWE has a crappy weak "Wellness Policy," which is beyond absurd and everyone (I hope so) knows it. Pro Wrestlers have no health care (and the WWE makes so much money that the company can afford to give wrestlers health benefits, but they refuse to and thus refer to them as "independent contractors," which is a bunch of bullshit and the wrestles know this) and they have no unions, which would pressure promoters such as Vince to do something about it. You see, this isn't only about drugs and deaths. This is about the problematic, non regulated, and dysfunctional world of professional wrestling. Problems that have been around for decades since the late 1920s when the industry officially became an entertainment with pre-determined matches. Promoters only care about how much money they can make with the talent they have performing for them daily, and they are willing to allow those performers to do whatever they need to do to perform at the level they expect in order to draw a huge house gate and television/ppv revenue. Promoters have always had the power to regulate their promotion, but they choose not to for the sake of the dollar. Thus, the majority of performers have little leverage and some make very bad decisions that go unpunished. The industry needs to be changed, and Congress can provide the first step if they are smart and understanding in their research. Edited by - shellshock91 on 12/11/2007 9:01:25 PM
Since I don't want to eat up too much space debating wrestling on a porn board. I don't completely agree with your findings thus far. It seems to me that there were lots of for a lack of better term "rock star" deaths. Which is why I make the comparison. While I don't think money makes people stupid I think that people in any entertainment field who go from rags to riches very nearly over night are at a certain risk. Eddie Murphy lit himself on fire once. Lindsey Lohan drove on the wrong side of the freeway. Young people who get too much money to fast often make bad decisions and I'm not certain that can be blamed on their industry. That said as somebody pointed out there are wrestling boards like rajah, that can be used to debate wrestling things. I would like to know the title of your book, and if possible receive a PM (cus I'll forget otherwise) when the book hits shelves.
Mod: Drop the sarcasm. It doesn't matter if a message board is for porn, wrestling, videogames, knitting, or dog owners. Respect will get you far in pretty much any one that tries to treat things with maturity, as long as they're not flame-bait style boards. This board being for porn doesn't mean people don't need to treat one another with respect. There are other porn boards out there if you prefer a free-for-all environment. - scipio
Well, Jenna has had some bad stuff in the past, she use to be a heavy drug user, was very unreliable showing up for some of her dancing gigs in the past and sometimes walked off sets, costing the companies alot of money. She use to do some hooking in her early days for Nici. She called her ex husband a rapist and then later retracted it, with an apology. She has not done a sex scene in over 3 years. She has not followed thru woth her obligations with Playboy for the sale of the company Club Jenna. She had to retract her statement about retirement, because it would have lost a boatload of money for Playboy. Jenna is completely out of porn, she just has to pretend to be involved to not void the contract with Playboy. Bottom line, she came out way ahead financially, good for her. Ninety nine percent of the girls don't. Arizona
