i remember when i watched my first porn. i had to sneak into my living room while my dad was mowing. i put in a Christy Canyon video, and it felt so damn exciting watching the raw energy, and Peter North just railing her. it felt so damn sinful, and raw. those were like the best jack offs/watching with my girl.
but lately..
with Twitter.. its so damn businesslike, and cold. Yes it was always a business. but it never felt like it. now its, they are on set, and then they are in vegas, eating donuts, and taking a shower, and here's my child. then its watch me on streamate! and here's some opinions, and here's a little about me. and here is me with so and so. oh, and i have a scene coming out today! and the kicker for me is "spoil me and i will spoil you" with the whole amazon wishlist. i love these girls, i do.
but when that happens FOR ME ( i only speak for myself) , i think.. where's the whole sin aspect of it. the whole i shouldnt be watching you doing this. the whole oh my gosh factor are you sure you wanted to do that!!! instead of the hey check out my scene where keiren tears me a new one. and then on the next visual you state.. hey fans, here's my cat.
fixed a misspelling in the subject line

^ I totally get what you mean.
I was a video game programmer back in the day, and I lament that games today are damn near photo-realistic, and lack the abstract charm that a game like, say, Pac-Man had. What the hell was Pac-Man? Who knows because you had to use your imagination and it meant whatever you thought it did. Today, a game like Pac-Man can't exist.
But that doesn't mean that the Assassin's Creed series isn't a friggin' masterpiece with different but amazing things to offer the player.
I do miss having to sneak to see Tanya Fox get railed in her phat ass by Peter North or Scott Irish, but it is also cool the way the www connects us, even celebrities to their fans. I can tweet Valerie Kay or talk to Georgia Peach on NiteFlirt or schedule some time with Alessandra marques.
So try to take advantage of the new things that are now possible, instead of lamenting that the old ways are gone.

I was actually going to suggest the same thing. I don't follow a single performer and that's why I keep coming back here to see what someone is writting about them or if they are participant than what they have to say. Whenever I've read tweets from porn girls than all I saw was that they are relaxing at home or that they went out and partied. You'll get the odd exchange with a fan but they are mostly tweeting their daily stuff.
I think the less you know about thei private life than the better you can enjoy their on screen performance. TMI is not a good thing with porn performers.

crazy8ight, I understand what you're saying, but the flip-side is that porn itself has become (comparatively) more accepted in society and less taboo. I think I'd consider that more of a pro than a con.
I think losing a bit of the "naughty" aspect, is a small price to pay for an overall greater level of acceptance that people like to fap and that it's not a shameful thing to admit.

i hate to bump a thread but.. something on twitter made me go again.
Let me clarify really quick, i am on twitter and follow a many porn star. I happen to think that Kendra Lust actually enhances my video experience of her since she constantly post pics of herself, talks of shows or dances, and mingles with other stars. But at the same time i just unfollowed someone who i actually think is so hot (Isis Love) who literally wastes my time just posting pics of what she is cooking three times a day. i do that already.
i guess the disconnect i get, and i get what you are saying Dubious Leftovers, is when for example Kelly Devine, is doing her daily thing. then just the other day starts ranting about men. i guess her bf cheated on her and she dumped him. it was a practically day long thing. then because her followers either sided with her, or the other cuz she IS a porn star, she starts lashing out at those people telling them to fuck off. i mean those are her fans! then she disappears for a few days and comes back and says, love me or hate me, whatever. point is, the disconnect i feel is, up to this moment this woman who i find hot is asking me to look at her amazon wishlist and what get it, and she'll do me a favor? how.. by doing a scene she will already do? or take some extra pics? how. i guess the problem i have with the devaluation of porn on this side, is this stars post personal stuff, and ask us to purchase amazon list stuff (?), then the moment something in their life is not to their liking in this case cheating and they expect to side with them? i mean we dont know what happened, it could have been a seroius of issues. in this case, Kelly made it out to be that he couldnt seperate her work from personal. like he couldnt differntiate her fucking on film and not. seriously????? and yet when some followers explained that to her, she lashed out.
in the end, i guess thats why if you fuck on film, let you be a mystery. and really why is the amazone wishlist necessary? do people actually buy and how is that paid back? .

Frankly, I don't see the point of following any performer on social media, whether we're talking porn or mainstream. No matter how much I might admire their body of work, I don't really need to know what they're up to every minute of every day. Neither do I care to know their opinions about each and every subject under the sun. I certainly don't expect them to deliver wisdom in twenty characters or less.
As for the Amazon wishlist - look at it from the view of a person who is deluged with requests by fans wanting to do something for her. She can either answer each and every request individually, or she can put up a list. While individual replies would certainly be more personal, face it, the majority of performers in any industry don't want to be personally involved with their audience. They want to put on a show then go back to their private lives.

Following porn chicks on Twitter makes you realize how boring the porn star life is, lol.
You get the occasional girl that pretends to be perpetually horny and puts on a bit of a performance, but for most it is just sitting around smoking weed and pushing traffic to their webcams or wish lists.

I think porn chicks would do better on Twitter, if they maintain their sexual image and say dirty things to their fans.
Dirty-talk is what porn fans want to hear from their porn stars, when it comes to verbal communication. This kind of thing is sure to acquire any pretty lady a following of horny guys, especially when this lady has already done on film some of the dirty things she says on Twitter.
Because when she has already done it on film, then the guys will know that she isn't joking or leading them on. They'll know that she is for real in her dirty talk with them on Twitter.

I dont give a fuck about dirty talk to fans, because it's obviously a fake thing..... I follow actresses to see how they are for real.
And most of the times, it's all about weed or webcam or amazon lol

^ So you're following because you WANT to be disappointed by them?
Hmmm... so, when they fulfill your negative expectations: are you happy? If not, I am not quite sure why you would follow.

It's a well-known fact that some men enjoy phone sex with women they know nothing about. It's all just dirty-talk and nothing else. And the guys pay good money for it.
Which means that dirty-talk from real porn stars on Twitter would likely please many guys too. Dirty-talk from a porn star you know is more hot, than hearing such dirty-talk from a total stranger, who might be just some grandmother with good voice.

To each his/her own but I'll never understand how someone could follow a pornstar/celeb faithfully on twitter. I'm sure once in every great while that person actually tweets something of real interest or importantance but from what I see most of the time it's incredible mundane stuff that I don't see how anyone could find interesting. There's a couple of sites I visit that has pornstars twitter feeds up and I'll sometimes read a few tweets. My gosh, how incredibly boring. "Here's a picture of my cat", "Going to the gym now", "Really enjoying the new song from that singer", "bad wheather today", "Had such a good time last night" "here's a picture of my feet", "Bed time now".
There was one pornstar I used to check in on about once a week but that was only to see what new nude pics she put up. She's constantly posting nude pics of her butt, breasts and body. That was fun to see for a few weeks but got old. But at least she put up some pics I'd want to see. I see some girls just post pics of seemily random stuff they think is cool. Perhaps there's a good story behind the pics but I don't think so.
Not saying I expect a nonstop party from these girls but maybe they don't need to share everything. Then I see girls who go in the totally opposite direction and share nothing personal and their tweets are nothing but ads to suuport their porn careers. At least those have some useful information.
Perhaps it's just me or I'm expecting too much. I don't think Twitter is bad. I think there are some things that are actually worth reading but from what I've seen the vast majority of it is incredibly dull. How anyone can follow that stuff on a regular basis is beyond me.
End of rant.

crazy8ight regarding your original post i get the points you are putting across but if twitter and other social media sites were around when Christy Canyon was performing then she might have done the same,it's all about promoting yourself and building up a fan base etc and getting the word out to fans about new scenes etc.
I remember the thrill of going out and buying porn mags, now that is lost on a lot of people as you can see near enough anything in seconds on the net.I loved the whole buzz of heading out to seek out a quiet shop to buy porn and the anticipation of getting home to throttle myself silly ha ha.

i mean i know that the internet blew porn wide open, but i think twitter (after facebook) has blown the whole pornstar experience to another level, and to me JUST ME it seems so unpersonal. tisk, the media age.

and Draxxx, i agree completely.
i dont follow stars daily, but when i pop in and do, it sometimes bewilders me. insert pornstar, who tweets her picture in the morning all naked ass and tits, then followed by said flight or drive, then insert a pic of her and her child, followed check out my camming now, then followed by a rant of $%$%%$ alone assholes... thats my son/etc! i mean in a world of varied personalities what did she expect.
i guess the devalue to me comes: i watch this said star acting out my fantasy on video, i imagine myself being that guy. and me finishing to that girl. BUT after said story above, its a complete turnoff Even though i am cool they have child, but its not cool they post said pic of child and go off on some kind of tantrum like we the fan crossed the line. what did she expect.

I agree they do need to keep up the dirty talk for their fans in order to keep them happy and that's what a lot of porn stars do when selling themselves to the fans by playing up to the image they know their fans have of them either in films, public or social media.
No fan of a porn star wants to hear or read about how a porn star is taking about normal things they do like taking their kids to school, walking the dog, cooking dinner etc. They want hear them say how much they like fucking and how they can't wait to do another shoot etc

Perhaps most probably do but I think pornstars should have a twitter account for their porn persona and one for their real self if they want to talk about kids, dogs and personal stuff. I think the porn persona should be like the way Bree olsen used to talk about sex, how horny she was and looking guys to bang and talking about upcoming porn gigs, posting sexy pics and such. That porn persona shouldn't be showing kid pics, talking about boyfriends, being sick, or any mundane non-sexual activities. I suppose some porn fans wouldn't want that but if I were a pornstar twitter follower that's what I would want.

I don't use Twitter. I'll only occasionally look and see what is on someone's Twitter page but I don't "follow" them.
I do think there's some value in getting a little taste of the performer's real personality. You're most likely to get that somewhere other than onscreen. Personality is one of the things that turns me on (or off). Even the smallest little details can add a little bit of excitement to watching her.

You do realize that during phone sex, the girl isn't simultaneously addressing thousands of guys, right?
Until any follower who still maintains some semblance of a long-term memory realizes that it's the same stuff all over and over. Constant pretend "dirty talk" will end up looking and sounding just as mundane as what the girls are tweeting now. Result: Twitter becomes just another outlet for the type of porn fan who needs a new "favourite" every other week because he keeps getting tired of his previous one. I don't think that's a winning business model for the girls, given that, unlike shooting porn scenes/camming/escorting/phone sex, there's not actually any money to be made off these guys through "Twitter dirty talk" before they're moving on.
At least all the food and pets talk attracts an audience that can reasonably be expected to be interested in the girl for deeper reasons than just "flavour of the week".
(Note: I'm not part of that audience, I find following porn stars on Twitter to be an incredible waste of time.)

I kinda get what you're saying but I don't agree. I can't believe that even the biggest fans of a girl will find the majority of the mundane stuff interesting and it's the more "juicy" stuff like like sex talk, upcoming projects, appearances, sexy pics, etc., that comes up every now and then that makes mundane stuff tolerable. That's the stuff that people talk about, quote, and make news. The sexy stuff is why people are fans of a pornstar in the first place and from what some people are saying doing the mundane coupled with being "real" in some instances can turn fans off. I think the girls should be aware that they are still entertainers and should say entertaining stuff and keep a bit of the fantasy aspect with their tweets. If someone's fav comedian tweeted their fans would expect them to say funny things not mundane unfunny stuff.
From what I can tell the problem seems to be that a lot of people simply tweet too often and start thinking everything they tweet is an interesting gem. Or they're actually just using twitter like using texting to talk with a few particular people and the "conversation" is only interesting to the people who they're actually talking to. It seems to me that lots of people simply tweet too often for the sake of tweeting instead of only doing so when there's something actually worth tweeting about.
But of course these are just my opinions and I just don't think I'm wired to enjoy the whole tweeting concept. I think tweeting can be a cool concept but I don't think most people use it in a cool/interesting way most of the time.

I mostly agree with most things said already....especially the drugs issue & it coming up in tweets all the time. Who fucken wants to see bong pics & girls go on daily about there weed usage...total turnoff for sure. I have a twitter account which I haven't had for long but mostly use to promote my videos/store which has given me a bit more business & I really enjoy it....the pornstars which I follow are mostly interesting & if they arent/or keep mentioning drugs then I unfollow, you also get the ones which you don't know what the fuck they are talking about, mostly one liners which mean jack shit.
The girls which I have come across as being really interesting & have great posts are Riley Reid, Sammie Rhodes & Holly Michaels...their tweets suggest they have a great outlook on life & basically don't take things for granted....that may or may not be true, only they know. But if I was to now purchase a DVD I certainly would be swayed in the direction of these girls instead of the ones I have unfollowed. To me porn has always been a fantasy & people who talk bullshit & take drugs certainly don't fit into mine!

I pretty much agree with everything texasbob said.
I find pornstars + Twitter very odd.
Also I would like to add how insecure many of these pornstars are.
Between twitter and cam-shows you should see how they flip out whenever they get negative stuff said about them. I'm not that guy who goes into chats or on twitter and talks shit, i just unfollow if I dont like them, but it DOES make me laugh and laugh when i see how butt-hurt many of them get. They go right to the "you live in your mother's garage anyway" line EVERY time lol
I mean seriously they get their asses kissed ALL day EVERY day, people telling them how pretty/beautiful/sexy they are and even buying them things and then they lose their mind and flip out when someone says anything remotely bad about them.
i was in a brett rossi live show when someone said something bad, i don't remember what it was, and she booted him out the room and then talked shit about him for like 10 minutes straight lol. he wasn't even THERE any more. and every other line she said was "if you don't like me, i could give a shit" when OBVIOUSLY she gives a hugeeeee shit.

^ I often wonder how some girls get such a high number of followers. Particularly the ones who don't actually do porn anymore. I'm not saying they aren't real followers but I wonder what they do/say to get such a following. This might have a very obvious answer but I'm not a twitter guy so I have no idea.

I don't know if any of you guys saw a recent article where someone actually verified the level actual vs fake followers. I'll see if I can find on which site I saw it but let's just say for now that the number of actual followers is significantly smaller than the fake ones for most porn girl.

^^^ from what i understand everyone has like 10-15% fake followers. I don't know how this happens but i have an entire 90 followers and like 14% are fake. Something about keywords that you tweet will get these bots to follow you i think i heard.
but some of those are crazy.
courtney cummz 85% fake
miko lee 73% fake
jessie andrews 89% fake <<< i was wondering myself the other day how she had over 250,000 followers
kelly devine 46% fake
nina mercedez 86% fake <<< lol i had to unfollow her a few weeks back, so many have to be fake to listen to her
teagan presley 55% fake
brianna jordan 77% fake
diamond kitty 46% fake
devon michaels 72% fake
I would think they all had to buy followers to get a fake % that high

There is way too much directing to their websites to make it worth following 90% of them. I spend about 5 mins a month on it. Riley Steele I think has been the most fun, a little self promo, mostly cool self pics...

i know my topic is the devaluation of porn.. but considering the migration of porn stars to twitter plus their daily inhabition of it letting us know everything from here.. maybe i should re-title my topic as to the devaluation of porn stars. case in point in the last two weeks, i give you forth 2 examples:
1. tara lynn fox has over "10k" followers, and decides to quote some fella who says to the effect you are a porn star what do you care about the condom law. to which she flies off on a rant about, and i quote "and this is why i want out of the biz" .. then for 2 hrs saying she is doing something else besides porn guess what 4 hrs later she's all about talking bout getting ready for a new scene.
2. diamond foxx who i am infatuated with. for like the last 4 months says she has quit the biz. and is focusing on her salon. always twits some pic of her tits or ass, constantly talking about her husband is now her only dick. guess what happened this week all of a sudden? she tweets that she "is horny for some dick, and is lining up for some scenes" ok i am happy right.. but isnt that what her husban was about?
the thing is the whole tweet thing was just a hook and ladder.. keep me in and tease and whatever.. but in the end its just a chain. they all know its a commodity so string it along. i just think that facebook but more twitter really sends a wrong message for them. especially if they flip flop all the damn time, and dont realize that their fan base thinks thousands of ways.

I disagree. It's much more of a con than a pro.
Porn losing its "naughty" aspect is not a small price to pay at all. It's a huge price to pay. That's the whole reason most of us watch it. If it wasn't "naughty," then it wouldn't be porn.
I never understood why people gave a damn about porn being "accepted." Porn is supposed to be taboo. It's supposed to be dirty. It's supposed to be illicit. It's fuckin' porn!
I say bring back the days when porn was filthy, sordid, and shameful, just like it's supposed to be. This whole current attitude of squeaky-clean "acceptable" porn is why most of it is so damn boring to watch now.

^I kind of agree with you but maybe I come at it from a different direction. I think that people say that porn is more accepted now because it's discussed a lot more in mainstream media. I think thats actually a major con because all it does it make porn a bigger blip on every moral/religious group and these people always seem to know which button to press to get politicians interested in their cause. Now we all know that politicians are not the pillars of virtue they pretend to be and I'm certain that a percentage of them enjoy their porn but they have no problem crusading agianst porn because thta's good for their career. Being pro porn is guaranteed to lose you any chnaces of getting elected to anything.

Without the porn as a substitution for reality, you would have met your disappointments a lot sooner, learned from them and adjusted to the real world you're complaining about now. Trust me when I tell you, they don't "owe" you
anything. Not one damm thing .No promises were made or broken. Your money paid for their time not their souls. They are not your pets who refuse to be house broken. They are not obligated to you and they are definately trying their best not to mislead you by giving you those details about their lives. I used porn as a crutch too. It's nice to get what you want when you want it but sooner or later
you wake up to the reality that there is a whole lot more to life than watching someone else live it.

It's time for you and your girlfriend to invest in a camcorder. .........

This is only an anecdote.
I followed Lisa Ann (one of my fave porn stars) on Twitter for a while. Then she went on a feature dancing tour arounf the USA. Then her tweets became a sort of advertising hoarding. Virtually every day there would be around a dozen or so tweets like this "This Saturday I'll be at The Gentlemans Club in -------". This went on for a month before I got so bored with it I decided to "unfollow" her. I live in the UK so it was of no interest to me. Obviously I still love her work. And she uses Twitter as an advertising tool. Fair play to her

In the last couple of days Kelly Divine unfortunately was still ranting about her ex she broke up with recently and was in a brief twitter flame war with some of her followers who kinda insensitively gave their personal opinions which suggests to me at least that she's VERY,VERY thin skinned/insecure, and I LOVE Kelly Divine but on the other hand I can see how the injection of porn stars real life situations can dull the fantasy shine somewhat for e.g pics of her being escorted by a bodyguard on her Bang Bros shoot in Miami last week.
But also some of the gals are fun to follow on twitter i.e Ashli Orion, Jada Stevens (who seems like a real fun and mellow chick), Christy Mack (Could never get tired of seeing her tits & ass pics) and Kristina Rose (who's the real "I just doesn't give a fuck about anything Porn slut" deal IMHO).

This is why I say pornstar or any entertainer should have two Twitter accounts if they feel the need to expose their personal life in such a way. One Twitter account for the celeb persona and one for the "real" person to have with friends where they can talk and complain about cetain things.
It's unrealistic for anyone to expect not to hear negative responses from strangers when they put out tweets like that. If you're going to put that type of thing out there people are going to respond in ways you might not like or agree with and you can't (or a least shouldn't) get angry because people have opinions you don't like. Why ruin the fantasy? Did her sharing that info and fighting with a fan actually help her situation any? All it did was turn off a few or more fans.

lol they shouldn't have 2 twitter accts, such a hastle to log in and log out for your "real" self and "porstars" self.
if you dont want to think of them as human beings then I guess you shouldn't use twitter.

^I have to say I agree with this sentiment. It all seems a lot like poking a bruise over and over to see if it still hurts.

I see your point but from a career standpoint I think some should if they can't handle negative responses from fans and don't realize when they're saying things that casts them in a bad light.
I don't use Twitter and I do see them as human beings and I'm not really bothered by the "bad" stuff they say. But again from a career standpoint it's clear that some of these girls lose some fans by the stuff they tweet. It's very possible to be human without turning off sections of your fanbase with silly attacks/insults and unflattering tweets. Some girls seem to have no problem being entertaining, fun, friendly, and likable. For the ones who can't or choose not to they're risking losing fans and perhaps they need to change the way they interact.

I skimmed through this post. Found it interesting. If you dont want to be bored to death stop using twitter and recluse back to the "good ole days" of VHS, pre internet, sheesh that simple. I used to do the twitter/facebook page for mackenzee pierce.... It was fun at the time, something new. I used it for both posting my day to day life/up coming scenes/ feature gigs/ect... then I deleted it, started fresh again and deleted it yet again. Since returning to the biz I vowed to never get tangled in that bs again simply bc of all the drama,bs, bullying that goes on. I dont support people using the internet or social media as a soundboard for negativity. Whatsmore, I realized I wanted more privacy to my "life outside the biz".... and as harsh as this sounds(I have always been known to voice my opinion freely)I really dont owe it to fans to give them info on my personallife. Having a twitter doesnt build my fan base, Inever got booked more because of it, so there isno reason for me to have one.... So I maybe one of VERRRRY few that wont ruin your "fantasy" just sayin

I doubt the ones who lack sufficient judgement for that would be able to handle keeping two separate Twitter accounts in the way you propose...

I wouldn't call the devaluation of porn to be the daily musing of a porn star on a social media site. The devaluation of porn would be found in BS paysites with lacking updates and significant content, the flooding of free streaming youtube like adult sites (which we all browse) and on down to every Tom, Dick and Harry with a shitty idea and a smartphone thinking they can direct and thinking their shitty content is worth paying for. I would like there for this so called devaluation before I looked at a microblogging service like Twitter.
I don't really follow any porn stars on twitter with the except of Dana Dearmond who is as humorous as they come with it comes to off stage personalities.

^Twitter does devaluate porn because it often destroys the fantasy aspect that surrounds porn performers. You get to read about their day to day life, their musing on a variety of subjects and then the rants they go on that may or may not be justified. Some of their Tweets don't necessarily make them look all that good so that can greatly affect their porn career but even if all their Tweet are great then you still find out that your fantasy girl is no better than most other girls.
Tube Sites are a lot worse than porn performers Tweeting but Tube Sites don't devaluate porn. They completely obliterate it.
