| pb3 Member UK 19 Posts 2/01 |  Posted - Aug 8 2007 : 2:52PMHi Folks, As a rule I've up to now avoided R18 releases completely as they have been vetted by the BBFC - British Board of Film Classification (aka Censorhip) for the non-UK folk on the board. The BBFC is well known in the past for its petty censorship of mainstream films. However things have moved on significantly in the last few years and adult films showing full intercourse can now be purchased legally in licensed Sex Shops. These films are assigned an R18 category. This is momentous progress for this rather prudish country. The films are of course vetted by the BBFC and sequences "likely to deprave or corrupt" removed  As a matter of principle I'll not purchase any censored title and I've avoided R18, preferring the US/European versions. However I've recently come into possession of a second hand R18 title entirely by accident through the international trading forum - basically I didn't read the description fully before purchasing :) Anyway I've just watched a bit of it and was pleasantly surprised to see stuff like anal, DPs, rimming, A2M etc shown apparently uncut. There was an annoying lack of extras, but this is usually the case with UK releases as the BBFC charge per minute of footage reviewed :( So.. Have the BBFC finally entered the 21st century? And are R18 releases actually worth purchasing on the second hand market? Are there still some (legal) sex acts that the BBFC have problems with? Thoughts welcomed. Our old friend "urolagnia" seems to have vanished from the proscribed list, but from a quick scan of recent decisions it looks like they're still imposing cuts for mild rough sex, urination during sexual activity, blah blah blah... plenty of room for improvement, in my view, before I start paying over the odds for R18s. As an example, John Strong like to ask the girls at what age they'd lost their virginity. Most would say 14, 15, 16 etc. This would definitely be cut by the BBFC as underage sex is mentioned. Personally, I've not bought DVDs from the UK for over 4 yrs because it's just so damn expensive. All my DVDs are ordered online and shipped from the US. Even with P&P added, it works out at about half UK prices... [Link] |
