I recently bought a DVD copy of "A Little Bit of Hanky Panky," starring Ginger Lynn and Stacey Donovan, and I was very disappointed to see that the movie had been edited quite a bit.
Does anyone have any suggestions for where I could possibly find an old, unedited VHS copy of this or other classic early 80s porn?
Whether or not a film is edited or not depends on the distributor and the masters available. Alpha Blue Archives tends not to release edited films. VCX has released several unedited films. VCA tends to edit out any questionable material as does Arrow and Caballero and I-Candy.
BTW: I forgot to mention, if anyone comes across a classic they know is edited if they e-mail me or post about it in the Golden Age Classic thread I'll note it on the list so that others know.
Right now it's a grab bag when it comes to getting classics on dvd unedited. I'd say stick with an original copy on the VHS from a mom/pop sort of store if you can find them. I have a copy of EROTIC WORLD OF ANGEL CASH on VHS and it looks pretty much complete. It seems to have been struck directly from a theatrical print as leader markings from the projector are on the video. I was in a store a few years ago and some old guy was asking about MARACHISMO CHERRY, a flick a lot of veteran pornsters ask about. Well both the CASH & CHERRY films come from V-X-P aka Video X Pix. This company no longer exists but the holding company for their films recently released a lot of the V-X-P library onto dvd. Scenes in at least two V-X-P classics, DEEP INSIDE ANNIE SPRINKLE and TIGRESSES(Vanessa Del Rio) are edited according to Toyboxxx.com. In the SPRINKLE film it's the famous peeing/squirting on guy scene. In TIGRESSES there seems to be a lot of editing especially the two twin sisters getting it on with a black guy and each other(hints of incest). Also the CASH film might have fisting & creampie scenes trimmed. The subject of unedited flicks varies from film to film. I find it depends largely on the company that made the film.
Video X Pix is very much still existing. For some years they didn't distribute their own movies, VCX did it for them, but they are distributing themselves again since a few months.
As Jacco said, VXP is still in existance, many of their titles appear to be edited though. Maraschino Cherry, which you mentioned, is another one that has been edited.
Flash you know where I stand on the whole unedited, special edition, masterfully restored films from the Golden Age. they don't exist and the industry is choking itself with the blind fact that they think people don't care. no matter the price, if they're produced and sold they will be bought!
...Flash & Jacco, this is news to me about the existence of VXP. I always thought VXP morphed into Vidway in the mid 80s and when Vidway petered out it was the end of the two companies. One interesting thing if you read the small/fine print on the box covers VXP/Vidway releases. They are/were published by a company called Evart Enterprises. Evart also published Vince McMahon's WWF home videos for years...
But Im almost sure VXP/Vidway has been dormant for over a decade. When the dvds for their library were released I obtained about three or four 1 sheet promotionals, with about 9 films for each sheet, and the films are marketed on dvd in their original logos & cover art. This is what I think confuses people misleading everyone to think the company still exists. But if they existed they've not made anything new in about 15 or 16 years.
As I'm sure you know as well I'd love to see special edition releases of Golden Age titles. I was excited when VCX started talking about the Ultimate Editions of Debbie Does Dallas and The Devil in Miss Jones and so very disappointed by the actual releases as I thought that we might be getting the S.E. releases finally. On the flip side, if it is going to be released edited or not at all, I'll take the edited version over none.
I am quite sure VXP still exists, as we are doing business with them, and it is not a new company with the same name, some of the original founders are still around.
I can't agree with that because there is so much potential there. I want all of them! at least the ones I want with the restoration material intact and with all the "censored" stuff they don't want us to see on DVD.
flash, thanx for the link about Marachino Cherry & disc releases. While I knew some of the library was on DVD I honestly didn't know(but I can believe it)that such crappy spliced up prints are being used for many of the dvd transfers. I'll hold on to my vhs for a long time until these companies' stop this kind of shit. Like many, I don't mind paying for the dvd of a film I already have on video but the whole damn film better be there. Thanx again for this thread. Porn movies are always harder to return or wrap up and mail to get your money back. Distributors & retailers traditionally want things one way. Take your money for their slickly wrapped junk. They don't understand that the porn buying public is privy & is not going to tolerate this raping of their dollars forever. ciao!
