You should look for the Adaptec <iAUA-3020 Duo Connect </i board (their part number: 1923200) - it offers 3 USB 2.0 ports and 2 IEEE-1394 FireWire/iLink ports on the same board.

| French guy Member 335 Posts 9/01 | My motherboard doesn't support the new standard so I figured that including a PCI USb 2.0 extension card will be the solution but even though Windows recognized the card, the added ports still work like USB 1.1. If two devices are connected to a single controller, data transfer is slowed based on the devices' needs at the moment and their interaction on that channel. Depending on the types of devices and which of the 4 transfer methods they use, one device can cause the other to grind to a near halt or they can coexist peacefully. If one is a USB1.1 device and the other is a USB2.0 device, there is a high likelihood that they will share the channel at a maximum of 12 megabits per second - USB1.1 speeds - as the USB1.1 device can limit the speed of the channel. Therefore, when connecting USB devices, try to use only 1 socket of each pair on your computer unless you know that the devices are similar in their speed and protocol needs. For example, USB keyboards and mice share quite well. Data storage devices (e.g., flash memory cards, external hard drives, external optical drives) and webcams should each have their own channel. Printers and scanners can usually share quite well as it is unlikely that you would be printing and scanning simultaneously. Another problem is not having enough USB connections. The solution here is to purchase a powered USB hub which contains active (multi-TT) circuitry aggregating USB signals such that there is no interference and hub-to/from-computer speed is maintained at USB2.0 levels. (See: USB Technology: Multi-TT Hub Goes Head-to-Head With Single-TT - Tom's Hardware Guide) The devices will still have to share USB2.0 data transfer speeds; but at least the data transfer speed to/from the computer will be maximized as compared with most inexpensive single-TT USB hubs where the hub-to/from-computer speed usually reverts to levels well below USB1.1 levels. ~ GaySatyr |
| French guy Member 335 Posts 9/01 | Well Saki, I have a card reader for my digital camera and the fastest transfer I got so far was 12 Mb/s but as Gay Satyr stated, USB 2.0 can go up to 480 Mbps so there's no guarantee that you can reach that speed considering what devices are plugged on your PC. |

However, just because the Autobahn speeds are geared for Porsches doesn't mean that your camera memory card VW Beetle gets a new engine. It just gets to use the slow lanes. A USB1.1 compliant device is still USB1.1 even if attached to a USB2.0 controller. As long as you mix and match devices, connections, and channels with a little thought as to the processes involved, USB1.1 and USB2.0 coexist beautifully and you get the advantage of both. ~ GaySatyr |

However, note that SanDisk has models of card readers that are USB1.1 and models that are USB2.0 - make sure you got what you thought you did. Flash memory cards come in a wide variety of speeds as well. Many of the "standard issue" cards are relatively slow compared to some of the "specialty" cards.
