Shortly before leaving the AVN Adult Expo in Vegas, Wit Maverick and Greg Allen kindly gave me a quick demonstration of the upcoming VCA Voice Activated DVD, which is being re-issued for the recently released
Double O Blonde with Tawny Roberts. This is a title that should be of interest to many people at
Adult DVD Talk , as many of them helped with the voice activated technology beta test that was included with VCA’s
The Sleaze Show . Wit and Greg both told me that the feedback from Adult DVD Talk was very useful and thorough, with almost every person giving them relevant information that they think will improve this technology. I’ll readily admit that I was a bit skeptical going in, since the first try on something new often leaves much to be desired. On the other hand, VCA has been able to do many things other companies have found unfeasible, such as their
Wall to Wall option that lets you watch just the sex rather than bothering with the fast forward fodder.
I didn’t get to try the actual program, as we were all pressed for time (since I planned to fit an interview with Chloe in before running to the airport, and Wit and Greg seemed to be all over the place at the VCA booth). Greg demonstrated the technology, which I was told takes about five minutes to set up on most computers and will work for all future VCA voice activated DVDs. Meanwhile, Wit explained some of what they were aiming for. All of Greg’s commands were simple, such as “Ride my cock” or “Get me off”, and also included program commands such as “Full screen”, “Small screen”, and “Next Chapter”. I’ll admit that I have no clue what kind of system they were running the DVD on, but every time the response was almost instantaneous, which really surprised me. As usual with most interactive DVDs, the loops for each position last between one and two minutes.
The VCA reps weren’t sure how much more they were going to charge for the voice activated DVD compared to their normal DVDs, but they are trying to make it a little more worthwhile for anybody who buys it. The voice activated Double O Blonde comes with a microphone and headset, as well as VCA’s DVD player, for those who don’t have much of one on their computer. VCA appears to be planning many more voice activated DVDs for the future, and wants to make sure people get set up for them right away at no additional cost.
I have to admit to having somewhat mixed feelings on this title, which is completely due to the marketing. The technology looks great, but releasing two different versions of a title roughly one a month apart could confuse some customers. I also think it might irritate more than a few customers who either bought the original Double O Blonde expecting it to be voice activated (I know when I got my screener copy in the mail I was a little confused) or who buy Double O Blonde only to find out it’s being released with more options in the very near future. VCA’s rationale is that they want 100% day and date on their titles this year, and with how many customers are asking for this, I can understand their feelings. Despite this, if it’s only a month or so different, I think most people, including Tawny’s fans who eagerly await seeing her in a new release each month, would be willing to wait a few more weeks to enjoy her in all her glory.
The Voice Activated Double O Blonde looks to be a very well thought out product, thanks partially to the participation of Adult DVD Talkers in the beta test, and one that’s going to be worth checking out as soon as it’s released. VCA’s using Tawny Roberts for this release says a lot about their confidence in her when you look at VCA’s roster of contract girls, which also includes Chloe, Julie Meadows, and Sunset Thomas. I’ll admit that I went into the demonstration a bit uncertain, but I came out really looking forward to seeing the release. VCA’s going to raise the interactive bar another notch with the voice activated Double O Blonde .
