One of my favorite xxx movies is called "Jungle Heat" is was by Joe D'Amato and starred Rocco and his future wife.
As I possess a legal copy of it is it okay to use my computer to convert it to DVD for easier viewing?
I can destroy the original after I convert it.
Or is this illegal and best not spoken about? I just want to see a favorite movie again and I don't have a TV so the only way would be on a DVD with the computer.

Copying for personal use is considered "fair-use" for VHS tapes. I think that it's technically illegal to make copies of any DVDs that employ encryption.
It's well known that video tapes degrade over time. Making a copy for personal use is a perfectly reasonable even if you're changing media formats.

Strange but the movie in question was called "Tarzan X" in my country and boy is that one great movie ....made my backup from vhs to dvd some time ago. ;-)

Weren't most mainstream VHS movies copy protected? It's been a while but I seem to recall trying to save a deteriorating Hollywood movie and it wouldn't let me.

I have the English language version. I have seen it called TarzanX and "The shame of Jane".
I love the movie. The sex with Rocco and Rosa is very hot in my opinion.

Only some VHS tapes (not very many in my experience) had Macrovision on them. Briefly, Macrovision suppressed the sync signals in the video that your TV uses to lock on to where lines and frames begin and end. TVs could deal a "suppressed" (lower value) sync signal, but VCRs could not lock on, and produced recordings that rolled, tore, etc. Analog effects.
There were anti-macrovision boxes on the market for a while, but that's old tech these days.

when my wife was in college we tried to copy a scene from "the sixth sense" from vhs to vhs to show for a presentation about therapy and it wouldn't work. copy protected.
we ended up videotaping it with a digital camera.
