I've made some changes to the forum code over the past few days as an effort to start supporting the WebP image format. At the moment all user uploads are going through a process that will copy/convert the old JPEG files to a WebP formatted file. This conversion process should not impact image quality and will make pages load faster and save us quite a bit of bandwidth. At the moment a little over 40k images have been processed into WebP. There's more than 274k to go.

This change should be transparent. If there's a WebP version of an upload available the forum will automatically use it. Users don't need to do anything different for including images in their forum posts or reviews.

When the conversion process is complete I will implement the code to allow users to upload WebP format files in addition to JPG, PNG and GIF. WebP will become the default format in the near future for all uploads on ADT. If you upload a JPEG it will be processed and stored as a WebP file. I'll announce when this storage change has been implemented. Likely in a week or two.

200k uploads to go and all of the variants for each file. There are up to 14 variations of each uploaded file stored on the server. 200k uploads to process likely means ~1million more WebP conversions are in the queue.

So this process shit the bed last night. The server that was doing the conversion went BSOD sometime overnight. Working on getting that sorted out now and restart things. I think I will need to slow down the conversion process so the file sync software can keep up.
