I haven't seen the movie in question, but I assume the reviewer means that, instead of the scene appearing as one continuous action sequence, it is chopped up with 'white outs' being used to transition between the pieces.

This classical stylistic figure has long lost that function in the much faster paced films, since, say, the 60s. The fade to black (or white) came back in style as a purely figurative editing device (as opposed to montage) thanks to videoclips, where they are mostly used for the creation of 'interesting' visual effects. I guess that is what Adamo is striving for as well. If he succeeds, is open for debate, at least. Furthermore, in most porn scenes fades to black (or white), or even just dissolves, serve a different, more practical function. They are used to mask the incompetence of the filmmakers to create a decent sense of continuity of action, which should work so well with simple hard cuts. This last use has become so widespread in so-called couples porn, that filmmakers even anticipate the use of fades and dissolves by making completely unnecessary camera movements, usually lateral tracking shots or pans. Most of these camera movements start with a detail of the set, as if it was needed to use a "cut-away" in combination with either a fade or a dissolve.
