Being a teen in the 80s grew up on VHS (no idea directors back then) & Electric Blue first then Andrew Blake, Michael Ninn, Jules Jordan, Mario Salieri, Tanya Hyde and JacktheZipper. But recently watching and enjoying more alot of old 70/80s stuff like Jamie Gillis, Skintight is currently on high rotation. And got me wondering what has changed to porn so much since then.. Was it free love and drugs of the time, or perhaps the rise of feminism, as I find what is lacking in todays porn is passion and seems to be more a business. Just watched Louis Theredeaux doco and seems to support that. Comparison of 3 parts of a scene. 1) Blowjob - From worshipping the cock, lots of slow head, tongue play etc. Today very little of that but a lot of skull-fucking. 2) Sex - From genuine real sex with lots of kissing and genuine sounds. Today jack-hammering with no kissing and porn star screaming. 3) Finish - From body shots, slowmotions and most importantly post cum cock play. Today hair pulled back facial then cut to black screen. Seems that maybe back in the 70s girls were comfortable with, not necessarily being subservient, but doing these things and happy with their role/position in the relationship/act. Whereas today seems with perhaps rise of feminism and female power (not saying its a bad thing) are making their stand so to speak, an independent woman and its a job and then get onto the next one. And aswell as lack of passion, and maybe as a result of this, there is a prevalence of male aggression.. potentially against this rise in feminine power of skull-fucking, jack-hammering, forced facials etc. I think this is what is killing porn, abundance of millions of these identical scenes endlessly churned out with minimal genuine female passion and some prevalence of male aggression as opposed to truly erotic movies, and not couples shit.. genuine erotic films. Thoughts?

Interesting post. With regard to Blake, Ninn, Hyde, etc, I'd encourage you to compare them to the non-adult movie world. Back in the day, the great directors were men like Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick. Someone like Kubrick would spend YEARS making just one of his films... he was a perfectionist. The results of his work clearly reflect this in the quality of his pictures. Now compare that to today's directors where short cuts and CGI overtake the feeling of "reality" more times than not. The movie industry reflects the societal audience they are intended for. Back when Hitch and Kubrick were making their movies, they were shown in theaters and that was it (VHS came out toward the end of Kubrick's career). For all intents and purposes, it wasn't until the early 1980's when VHS machines and tapes started to become price effective for people to buy/rent. Thus, those guys needed to produce top notch films so people would go into the theater and want to come back and see their next movie. Today, some movies are created even "straight to DVD" and are never even shown in theaters. When it comes to porn, the same concept is in play, albeit slightly different. Back then, it was made either for sex theaters and eventually mainly for VHS (once that technology became mainstream). Then the format switched to DVD, but not much really changed except for the quality of the actual picture. The reason not much changed is because you couldn't go down to your local family theater and see these movies... it was more of an underground item limited to adult sex shops to view/buy/rent on VHS/DVD formats. However, with the induction of the world wide web, all of that changed. The WWW now allowed a MUCH wider audience. In fact, this wider audience started with the advent of cable/satellite TV with channels like Spice and Adam&Eve. This got people who would normally NEVER go into a porn shop more exposed to porn by just seeing the channel in their cable lineup. Today, you've got people running off to church on Sunday morning and downloading porn on the Internet on Sunday night. Back in the 80's, those people weren't running into porn shops in groves. Porn companies are in it to make a profit. They cater to what the public demands. It's a case of Adam Smith 101. If you watch "real" Japanese porn, "real" Brazilian porn, "real" German porn, "real" Indian porn, etc, etc, etc... they are all substantially different in terms of look, feel and the items that they can and can't do. For instance, in Japan, they can show people eating feces and vomiting into other people's mouths, but can't show a pussy or a dick without pixilating it. The way they shoot their porn reflects this. In many places in Europe, they have nude beaches and show nudity on "regular" daytime TV shows like soap operas. Here in the US, the religious right has a cow when mothers breastfeed in public. Just a totally different society and thus a totally different market. One needs to look no further than something like Fashionistas... it was a film of high quality that they obviously spent a lot of time making and the results showed. It was also a big selling DVD even at a price point that was double that of most porn. But if you look at the list of the top selling DVD's (as of 2009), you can see they are the ones from the "tamer" studios who have a larger audience base... the audience that is more indicative of the conservative, church going crowd, rather than the more adventurous hardcore porn fans that make up a board like this (generally speaking). The Best-Selling Adult DVDs of All Time With regard to the passion you are talking about, yes it is more of a business today. Much of this has to do with supply and demand. Back in the 70's/80's, there were a small handful of porn stars. Today, there are so many porn "stars" that IAFD and sites like this one (ADT) can't even keep them all straight. Women can now build their own "brand" thanks to the web and become multi-millionaires, thus causing studios to pay top dollar to acquire their services. In fact, some women today are now on long term contracts.... compare that analogy to the sports world... who plays better and generally with more effort... the guy with the guaranteed long term contract or the guy in a free agent year seeking to make more money? At the same time, women who are genuinely "into" their porn scenes generally speaking have large followings, so it behooves them to enjoy what they do out of their own self-interest (in more ways than one). One other item that wasn't mentioned was the unfortunate rise of HIV/AIDS. That helped turn it more into a business rather than pleasure sport as well since people were now risking their lives once the 1980's rolled around. In any event, very thought provoking thread! Cheers! :)
I would just add that if one looks at the DNA of pornography in the USA, one finds that 70's pornography clearly derives from Hollywood movies. Now, think about where the DNA for today's porn comes from. It comes from television. It has no interest in being rational, informative or thought-provoking; just the opposite, in fact. It wants to sell you shit, literally. No wonder the inner lining of the female colon is practically the symbol of modern porn.

if you can find, them, check ou some these flicks from the 70's; Sylvia...Ingrid's Dark Experience...That Lady from Rio...Fantasex...and of course, The Devil in Miss Jones, which in my opinion, is one the best porno flicks ever produced...
I couldn't have said it better. I'll only add that it derives more from old Hollywood cinema than the stuff Hollywood started making in the 70's. Of course a percentage of the people that were producing porn in those days were graduates from film school so their films may have been hardcorfe but they also wanted more than to shoot a girl getting pile driven into submission. A case can be made that the sex was really only a very small part of the movie. You had men and women with actual acting talent that could tell a story with their performance. Todays porn is a huge music video where the sex is upfront, it's raw, it's in your face offensive but there is no soul. Mind you the same thing can be said for most TV shows and movies being made these days.
The main difference between 70s porn sex and today's porn sex is performance. In the 70s the intention was to try and film what it would look like if you were able to watch two people having sex. Today's sex scenes are sexual performances shot to be exciting and show maxium penetration. Porn in the 70s was mostly shot mostly by directors who failed to be able to shoot mainstream movies. For many of them the story was actually more important than the sex. That's why the sex scenes were so short, because the main focus for many of them was on the story. Today's porn makers are mostly people who have learned the best way to shoot a sex scene or have learned how to direct from watching porn. That said...I much prefer today's stuff over stuff from the 70s. Since the watch porn is to see sex my attitude is "the more sex the better". There are pornstars from the 70s I'm into but I find there sexual performances are often way too short and really don't show a lot. Too many shots that don't show actual penetration (and often simulated), poor camera angles that don't show much, too much time showing facial reaction vs showing the sex act, heavy editing, etc...And probably the most annoying for me is the all too often showing two different sex scenes at once and cutting back and forth between the two. I'm always much more interested in one scene much more than the other and just become incredibly annoyed with the one I don't want to see because it interrupts the one I do want to see. Today's porn mostly focuses on showing the viewer sex plain and simple. The positions are there to show penetration and filmakers have mostly figured the best way show penetration. The scenes are longer because they know most people want to see as much sex as possible. I tend to totally disagree with people who claim there was more "passion" back then as opposed to the performances today. That has and always will depend on the performers not the era. There were girls back then who seemed really into the sex and there are girls today who are clearly into the sex and visa versa. I think people are looking at the old stuff through rose colored glasses. I think the "passion" of today's porn can take different forms vs the few it took back then. Sex doesn't always have to be "romantic" or "loving" to be "passionate". If the girl is really into the sex being performed she can have her hair pulled (perhaps she wants that) or even be gang banged and be totally turned on by it. Not always, not everyone but I think it hppens often.
^This post is a generalization. Yes, some of this described above was more prevalent, but this posts makes it sound like that's how most of the Adult Films were and that is not true. And when somebody says "Passion" it does not necessarily mean loving. A matter of fact why would you say that. I only agree with the comparison of more graphic sex scenes in today's adult film. Otherwise, I don't agree with anything in your post. My thoughts? Well with your negative critisms of today's porn you seem to be really fixated on only the rough sex genre of porn being produced today? There is much much more diversity in porn today compared to 80s. There were very few companies back then compared to now so it makes sense. You talk about the rough stuff produced today but ignore the non-rough sex movies produced? What about big budget features and parody stuff produced by Wicked, Vivid, and Private? Not everybody is doing rough stuff? Why are you just renting those movies if you don't like them? Also speaking as someone who watched a LOT of classic movies from 70s and 80s I can tell you there were definitely bad aspects which you are overlooking or ignoring. Some examples ... How about "monster shots"? Remember those? When they would zoom in the camera on genitals and just leave it there for several minutes. Boring. Comedians used to make jokes about them. Stunt cocks? Where actor could not get it up so they had a stand-in take his place for sex scenes. Often someone whose cock didn't match the actor. The biggest complaint too many ugly white women? Back then majority of the women doing porn were white and often not that attractive. It's easy to only remember the good ones and forget all the bad ones. But even if you consider only the good ones most of them were not as attractive as the average female pornstar today. Back then the really good looking women didn't have to do porn they could make good living just dancing and stripping. Today its more the opposite with lot more good looking strippers entering porn and much sooner than before. You also have LOT more foreign performers from euro countries (e.g. Czech, Hungary, Ukraine, Spain, UK) and brazilians. The typical pornstar back then was white thin brunette with NYC accent or white long hair blonde from midwest or west coast. Yes you had Vanessa Del Rio who were curvy but she was the exception. Add to that the fact that girls didn't workout at gym to keep in shape back then and didn't have good plastic surgery available for big jobs etc. Then add the high level of diversity today. You have so many different race girls performing today (black, asian, latin, even some middle eastern), not to mention the rise of big butt white female trend. Ugly white men? Yes there were a LOT of ugly white guys doing porn back then. Compare John Holmes to a guy like Julian or Billy Glide? How many black male stars did they have back then compared to now? Not to mention Ron Jeremy? Yeah he looked better in his early days but still. The average male performer today is more attractive for female fans to look at. Variety of porn? You had a lot of features back then. Some great some bad some mediocre. Today you have everything from features to gonzo to amateur even high quality tranny and lesbian stuff. Even the rough stuff is higher quality (e.g. Kink.com). You name it there is a provider for that niche. Cost? Porn is so much cheaper today than it was back then. I think VHS tapes used to sell for $60 each!!! You can rent DVD for as little as $2. Not to much free porn available on interent. Accessiblity? No more lurking in the adult section of video stores. Internet and mail order. Also want to point out that the rough stuff was also produced back in the 70s and 80s also!!! There was a company called Avon that produced a bunch of rough flicks in NYC and they were more extreme than mainstream stuff produced today. There was a film called "Taming of Rebecca" where Sharon Mitchell pierces a girls nipple with a pin and she bleeds, girl inserting her amputated leg into girls ass and pussy, and on on. Back then you had the religious right and Republicans going after people who produced rough sex stuff so it wasn't as prevalent as it is today. I could ramble on but I just want to say I think porn in general is much better today than it was back then because of the quality, diversity, and volume of performers and types of movies. But also the cost and video quality. Don't get me wrong there were some great classics produced back then but every era had it gems. For example, Woodman, Michael Ninn, Blake, John Leslie, and Stagliano all produced some great stuff thru the 90s and 00s. I remember interview with the late Henri Pachard where he said newer stuff being produced (before he died) was much better than the older movies he shot. One thing I will give the 70s and 80s respect for was that in general they had better actors because a lot of them were failed wanna-be actors. Most of the girls performing today are failed strippers.
Of course it is. I'm not talking about a specific film and I don't claim to have seen every film from the 70s. I can only comment on what I've seen and what I've seen may not reflect what you or others have. BI never claimed all films from that era were all the same but a lot of it was as I described from what I've seen and read and heard about. The most popualr and most talked about films of the era are close to what I describe for the most part. That's okay by me.
It's always interesting to me that when some people here complain about what they don't like in today's porn most of can easily be avoided by not watching the output of about 3 or 4 studios and movies that contain what they don't specifically like mentioned in it's tile.
I agree but I don't think acting matters much in today's porn. For the purposes of porn I'd much rather a pretty girl who can't act over a not so goodlooking girl who can act. One of the big reasons I don't care for much of the 70s stuff "classic" though it may be is because I don't find many of the women of that era known for their acting hot or even goodlooking. During those days the acting was much more important since so much of the movies back then were trying to be movies with sex included. I tend to notice some of those women always tend to get props for their acting and not much is said for their sexual performances. Now that the emphasis has shifted to the sex performance being more important (in most gonzo porn) looks and performance take center stage. These days I don't think that many people are upset that their fav pornstar may not be a good actress.
More power to your elbow, but I genuinly don't understand how people can be turned on by 70'/80's porn. Bad hair, huge pubic forests, wood-killing close-ups of the guys gurning face just before the cumshot, and relatively tame and pedestrain sex. I, for one, and so glad that the industry has moved on.

No, there was definitely artistry to the Golden Age porn movies for the most part and often genuinely good acting and scripts, with pretty twisted scenarios and storylines that very few of the major porn producers today would even attempt to shoot. I agree with the OP that the sex is kinda formulaic,at least in the gonzo genre, nowadays, as well. But it's now mostly shot as a masturbatory aid and nothing more, which isn't a bad thing, but it was cool to be able to jerk off AND still be able to watch a well shot and scripted film.Just my two cents.

1} a complete lack of pubic hair. They come out of the factory with hair built in, deal with it 2} too much silicone, making breasts that look like they spent time with Joseph Mengele. 3} Gonzo - it isn't cool or sexy. 4} Total lack of anything erotic in films shot in a long time. 5} "I have to shoot here to be different" no you don't. and get off the couch. couch sex isn't comfortable, and 80% of the time it isn't hot. 6} Carpets not matching the drapes, but that's an old problem which I am convinced led directly to #1 7} causing women pain. in terms of art, there really isn't any anymore. a few of the parody's are fairly well don but for every decent film, there's 1000 droppin loads.
Always interesting to contrast the different eras in porn. First of all, I think was has changed the most is time. As porn became more and more accessible and commercial, with better and better technology, I think porn simply progressed naturally. Things moved faster and a lot cheaper too, meaning everyone and their mother thought they could make films, and actually starting doing it. So a lot of great bad, came with a lot of great good. Not convinced it was a lot better back then then it is now. Just different. I'll give you the bj argument. I don't generally find modern bj scenes that great. I think there were plenty of bad ones in the 70's, but they luckily lacked the theatrics and over-aggression of today. I think that's changing though. Can't honestly say I see more general passion in older films, and I know it wasn't as real back then just from hearing the actresses from back then talk about it. And acting is just it. I simply believe the acting was simply better in the 70's, as well as the directing. I think the type of finish you are talking about in today's porn started lessening years ago. A lot of fans made their displeasure with only facials well known. I do agree post-head cum play has lessened a lot.
Anal is a right, not a privilege. That is what makes porn so awesome today. It's all about the man, and what women want is secondary. The pretenses have all been dropped.

That list is nonsense. No Deep Throat, Debbie Does Dallas, Behind the Green Door, just to mention a few? Maybe it's just the sales for Adultdvdempire, but those are definitely not the best selling adult DVD's of all time. Jacco

^ That is a joke, none of those deserve to be there. No Insatiable? Opening Of Misty Beethoven? Night Trips?
Of course every title was originally released after the DVD Format was available. And then you have the Jenna Jameson Factor. I have never got the fascination with her. Add Tera Patrick (Who really is a looker) and there's your list. There are people posting in this thread that were clearly not around in the time period the OP is talking about.

^Well, several of the classics have been converted but you're right, all after the format launched. Jenna before she got inflated was very pretty and her scenes aren't bad but I think she's overrated. Tera isn't much better, nice to look at but not that great performer wise. Not like Constance, Serena, Marilyn.... I miss finishers too. doesn't seem to be much of that at all anymore, though it's never been really a major point. women finishing is so hot.
Several things: The titles you mention came out during (or before) the VHS era and by time DVDs came around even if they were put on DVD only nostalgic porn fans would be interested in titles that came out before the 90s. A casual porn fan walks into a store and sees a DVD with a slick Jesse Jane, Tera Patrick or Jenna Jameson cover sitting beside a dated cover picture of a movie from a decade or more and they'll garb the new girls every time. There's a few fairly simple reason why those movies sold so well. First and formost was because of accessablity. Those movies mostly came out during the era of when record and movie stores were still around. Those are the type of porn movies stores like TOWER RECORDS, FYI, and lots of other stores no longer around used to carry. The covers weren't hardcore and the name of the movies didn't contain bad language so big chain and smaller record and movie stores weren't too ashamed to stock them along with those PEACH and other softcore titles. More outlets, less embarrassing to buy, and they just looked classier. Then there was the fact that those titles had some of the most well know pornstars of the time. Plus, that stuff was much closer to being couples type porn that a person could watch with their spouse. I'm surprised to see a JULES JORDAN title make the list. I tend to think the hardcore porn fans mostly put that title on the list.
^You severely underestimate how many of those classic porn movies sold (and still sell) on DVD. We sell thousands of them and we are only one shop. Jacco

&
Let's address this: #1: Not my list. It was compiled through a reputable source (CNBC) from the DVD sales of another reputable source in the industry (AdultDvdEmpire). #2: I stated, "But if you look at the list of the top selling DVD's (as of 2009), you can see they are the ones from the "tamer" studios who have a larger audience base... the audience that is more indicative of the conservative, church going crowd, rather than the more adventurous hardcore porn fans that make up a board like this (generally speaking)." Thus, the CNBC link is about DVD's (not VHS nor Beta) in TODAY's marketplace. Opening of Misty Beethoven came out in 1975. Behind the Green Door came out in 1972. The first VCR in the US wasn't sold until late 1977 and wasn't at an affordable price point for the masses until years later. That would have substantially hurt sales of movies such as those. While they are certainly still popular today (Misty ranks #62 & Green Door ranks #127 all time at ADE), their target audience, for the most part, is an older generation that enjoyed the films back in the day. However, that list wasn't even talking about VHS, but just DVD's. It's not talking about sales from Sammy's Slut Shack Video nor from the local porn arcade nor from EvilAngel.com, but rather is a sampling from a huge adult website (ADE) in 2009 which had just finished winning the AVN's Award for Best Retail Website in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. So no, that list is not a joke, but rather it is up to the individual user to understand how to interpret the data which the list contains. DVDEmpire gets 2.5 million unique users per month. And while some of those are not on the adult portion, nonetheless that is still a HUGE sample size from a statistical standpoint. They boast over 80K adult titles for sale. Thus, a huge number of users on that site have a huge number of titles and genres to choose from. The list above is what they ACTUALLY purchased. There's no ambiguity to that. It is what it is. Going on to their website now, the all time best sellers as of today are: http://www.adultdvdempire.com/all-time-bestselling-porn-movies.html 1) Flashpoint - Vivid 2) Award Winning Sex Scenes - Vivid 3) Pirates - Digital Playground 4) Island Fever - Digital Playground 5) Island Fever 3 - Digital Playground 6) All-Time Best Teen - Devil's Film 7) Wicked Legends Vol 1 - Wicked 8) All Star - Digital Playground 9) Dream Quest - Wicked 10) The Masseuse - Club Jenna 11) Briana Loves Jenna - Club Jenna 12) Virtual Sex With Jenna - Digital Playground 13) Bad Wives - Vivid 14) All-Star Cream Pies - Zero Tolerance 15) Wicked Legends Vol 3 - Wicked 16) Virtual Sex With Tera Patrick - Digital Playground 17) The Fashionistas - Evil Angel 18) Ancient Secrets of the Kama Sutra - Vivid 19) Vivid Girls Vol 3 - Vivid 20) All-Time Best Teen - Devil's Film Anyone see a trend? Of the Top 20: DP = 6, Vivid = 5, Wicked = 3, Club Jenna = 2, Devil's = 2, Evil Angel = 1, Zero Tolerance = 1. So the "tamer" studios of DP, Vivid, Wicked and Club Jenna (which is basically an extension of the others since Vivid co-produced items like Briana Loves Jenna), made up 16 of the top 20 or 80%. The four outliers were three "Best of" compilations from Devil's and Zero Tolerance along with the big budget Fashionistas from Evil Angel. So what does this tell us? It tells us who the audience is spending money on DVD's at ADE... they are people who like the tamer porn, but can occasionally dip their toes into something slightly more hardcore if it is a "Greatest Hits" compilation or an extremely unique movie with a large budget. In fact, out of the top 100 DVD's sold there, Fashionistas is the ONLY Evil Angel entry. If we compare that to the list from 2009 I posted initially: 1. Flashpoint - Wicked 2. Award Winning Sex Scenes - Vivid 3. Pirates - DP 4. Island Fever - DP 5. Island Fever 3- DP 6. All Star - DP 7. Dream Quest - Wicked 8. Virtual Sex with Jenna - DP 9. Bad Wives - Vivid 10. Briana Loves Jenna - Club Jenna 11. The Masseuse - Club Jenna 12. Virtual Sex With Tera Patrick - DP 13. Fade To Black - Vivid 14. Ancient Secrets Of The Kama Sutra - Vivid 15. The Fashionistas - Evil Angel 16. The New Devil In Miss Jones - Vivid 17. Flesh Hunter - Jules Jordan 18. Kelly The Coed 1 - Heatwave 19. Space Nuts - Wicked 20. Jesse Jane: Erotique - DP So three years ago in 2009, those same 4 studios (Vivid, Wicked, DP and Jenna) made up 17 of the top 20 while Evil Angel, Heatwave and Jules Jordan each had one entry. Thus, not much has changed there. If we look at what are the "recent" best selling DVD's at ADE that were released over the past year, they are: 1. Avengers XXX - Vivid 2. Mandingo Massacre 4 - Jules Jordan Video 3. Dani - Elegant Angel 4. Remy La Croix - Elegant Angel 5. Hard Bodies - Elegant Angel 6. Natural - Elegant Angel 7. Couples Seeking Teens 9 - Reality Junkies 8. Big Girls Are Sexy - New Sensations 9. Pretty, Dirty - New Sensations 10. The Turn-On - Digital Playground 11. Black Anal Addiction - Evil Angel 12. Cuties 3 - Elegant Angel 13. Mothers & Daughters - Digital Playground 14. Revenge of the Petites - AMK Empire 15. Mother Daughter Exchange Club 24 - Girlfriends Films 16. Asa Akira Is Insatiable Vol 2 - Elegant Angel 17. Busty Construction Girls - Elegant Angel 18. Pornstars Like It Big Vol 14 - Brazzers 19. Buffy the Vampire Slayer XXX - Adam & Eve 20. Friends and Family 3 - Smash Elegant Angel makes up more than 1/3 of that list. I'll let people reach their own conclusions on that data set. If we went to somewhere like XRentDVD, I'd guess (but could be wrong) that their data set would be less "tame" than at ADE for various reasons dealing with their customer base. If we went to a porn shop in Harlem, it would be a completely different set of sales due to a different customer base. And so on and so forth. The audience on this particular board (if I had to guess) probably prefers Evil Angel over Vivid, but that's not what's selling to the mainstream audience according to the numbers at ADE. Porn is a business and caters to its targeted audience with the expectation of a financial reward. The audience in the 1970's is a completely different audience than today's porn customer. So porn adapts as an industry and produces what their consumers demand. (With regard to the best selling adult dvd of all time, it *could* be Caligula due to its crossover ability.) Cheers! :)

Good points. I have to admit I was voting with my quality of work viewpoint and not the most sales aspect.
And I am talking about our sales, we might not be as big as ADE, but we're big enough and have been in the business for 25 years, so our sales figures are big enough to be statistically relevant too. The list is presented as the best selling DVD's of all time, while it is just the best selling titles at one store. Our list is completely different. Jacco

Anyone else also find that the re-watchable value of most of the stuff shot in say, the last 20 years is significantly lower, as compared to the videos shot in the late 70's & 80's are? I'd say 90% of what stuff shot today, for me anyway, is one and done, yet i could watch {ballparking} 100 vids from the GAOP and never get tired of them.
^I do. Of course age might have a lot to do with it since I'm in my 40's so my first porn movies were all movies made in those era's. There are plenty of great movies that have been made in the last 20 years but my heart is still for the early stuff. Most of the performers were women in their 20's and I'd say that a good many of them were actually above 30 so there weren't as many teen performers. The sex was not as well filmed in many of the scenes back then but I think that has more to do with the filmaker going for a certain feel rather than an inability to shoot them more hardcore. The talent pool also doesn't compare because past male performers had a talent beyond just keeping a hard-on for an hour. They could play actual movie roles. The women were also more than a receptacle for a penis. They could play coy and innocent as easily as they could play hot sex machine.

If it was easy to quote one part of the post I would. And I see folks on here do it. And I have done it on many different sites, but I have no friggin idea how to do it on this site! Some sites use a universal layout that's really detailed yet simple. Yes?

Or you could Highlight what you don't want to include then hit delete.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the attention to the male partner. No, I don't mean the "o" face and all that nonsense people complain about. I mean, male leads, and daring to show a man's face/verbalisations etc during the sex. While there are a few examples from the present, this used to be fairly common in 70s porn, and is one of the reasons I love it so much. There were a good deal of attractive, natural-looking men in straight porn back then (contrary to popular belief it seems) and they were allowed to (gasp) emote.
^That really depends o the studio who's doing the g/g scene. I agree that there are significantly better lesbian scenes now then there were in the 70's and 80's but these are done by a very small group of studios. The stuff these studios does is leap years ahead of what was done back then. My favorite lesbian studio is Girlfriends Films.

Except for Christy Canyon, Heather Lere, Teri Diver and 'She Who Shall Not Be Named" this sadly is correct. Rant: How is it that someone who commited attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, working while knowingly infected with HIV and doing everything possible to avoid testing including fake results and not going to scheduled tests just so he could keep working, is accepted back in, yet TL is still shunned. was what she did wrong? of course. But not even close to infecting several people with a disease that could take their life. Hypocritical. End Rant. Edit: Not that she wants to come back in , just saying that one of the hottest stars of the 80's is not even acknowledged. Edited by - RemyGetsMeWet on 6/13/2012 9:22:00 PM
I didn't realize they only got the numbers from one site. I figured they were numbers from the different porn studios telling how much their best movies sold. Knowing it's from one site now I still would think WICKED, VIVID and DIGITAL PLAYGROUND were top sellers but I think if it were a true list of what the porn companies actually sold the list would be different.

Simple. Because one only put a few people at risk. The other was responsible for putting an entire industry at risk. Also, the one who put the industry at risk tried to blame the industry for what she did wrong and seriously bad-mouthed it.
A person would lose all crediblity if the ranked the top Hollywood DVDs by only using the sales from WAL-MART as a guide. I know it's harder to track porn movies but if they were going to do it that way at least get numbers from the top 5 or 10 retail sites and add them together or something. Why would anyone just get numbers from just one source?
If you look at the numbers listed on the CNBC list you can see those can not be total numbers. Most are just a few 1000. I bet Pirates sold a bit more than that. Jacco

I consider attempted mass murder to be way more serious than a putting people out of work. kind of hard to find another job if you're dead.
I was agreeing with your post and i have no idea, other than there is still a large part of the industry that is financed through "organizations" that really don't like to pay taxes. Edited by - RemyGetsMeWet on 6/13/2012 10:12:43 PM
Well, I thought the numbers on the lower ranked titles were low but I really have no idea what type of numbers a typical porn movie sells. All I read are people always saying it's lower than you would think. I tend to think PIRATES sold much more than that. Being from only one source also explains a few of the titles on the list. Some are obvious but there are a few on there that I don't understand why that particular title was a big seller.
^ You really think G/G Stuff is better today than the 70's and 80's.I suggest you check Georgina Spelvin scene in 3:00a.m., or her scene with Jessie St. James in Easy, Chris Cassidy and Amber Hunt in Lipps and McCain. Edited by - jizzyjay on 6/13/2012 11:34:37 PM

I think the rise of amature porn in the 90's changed "pro" porn. It injected many of its elements into all porn. Edited by - ControlFreak on 6/14/2012 6:01:27 PM
