Is it like when sometething is shot like a regular footage and then made look all artsy like "ohh and ahh"? I just stumbled on this video term and not sure if I grasped it right. Basically I seen a bunch of BTS footages from mainstream movies and when they show how they shot them the "atmosphere" seems like it was shot with a regular camera but the final product is all artsy. I just found the webpage of Autodesk Lustre (color grading software) and this is what they say: "Shape color and lighting to create a stylized look for your story, maintain continuity across shots, or even change the time of day during which the story takes place. Make everything look better than real." [Link]

jayo All-Star Member 2117 Posts 7/04	Posted - Mar 11 2007 : 5:46PM A very important stage in finishing a project on film or video is color grading or color correction (both terms are used for the same process). There are basically two aspects to the colorists job. He will provide a sense of color continuity throughout a scene by individually adjusting the colors and luminance to match the different shots. And, often working with the cinematographer, he can create an overall look and visual atmosphere for the film by adjusting the color palette and contrast. DrP0rn0 Senior Member 1836 Posts 5/04	Posted - Mar 16 2007 : 11:42PM If you have the DVD of S7ven (Seven) the New Line Platinum edition (or probably any of the newer versions of it) they have a fascinating section showing how they changed colors in several scenes to meet the director's vision of the movie. The demonstrations are done real time, so you see what the technician sees as they are making changes to the film. This is must see stuff if you are interested in the hard core details of film making. Dr. P [Link]
