The implication seems to be that you hve a hgh posts displayed per page and requested a page number that would exceed the number used for a thread based on that setting - as if they showed the number of pages based on a lower post/page view. Odd glitch.

Like croy said. It happens when you follow a link that has a whichpage= in the URL that was posted by a user that has a different posts-per-page setting. If User A has their's set at 30 posts per page and User B has 99 posts there will be fewer pages in a thread for User B than User A.

This typically won't happen if someone links to a specific post in a thread. Then the forum will properly calculate the whichpage based on your individual setting. If the link just goes to a page instead of a post then there's really no good assumption to make in order to redirect you to the correct spot.
I'm going to make it easier to link to individual posts soon after finishing the image uploading system. (Which is on hold while I'm in LA.)
