Brandon,

go to networksolutions.com. It's about $30.00 for three years.

It depends on how much the owner thinks it's worth. You'll just have to write the owner of that domain and see what he/she thinks it's worth.

Thanks, Oren. The problem is someone else bought the domain name. I want it back for me, not him.

I read on a site how Lex Steele had a lawyer help him get his back from a cybersquatter. It cost around $15,000, but damages can be recovered by suing in Federal Court. I want to avoid the hassle and just do things efficiently.

You may be able to sue but good luck, if thier in Russia or someplace like that. Do you have the whois info on the owner?

Hi Brandon,

I wouldn't pay 15.000 for a domain name. Sure it sucks that somebody else bought that domain but porno fans who want to see more of your work, maybe you full lenght movies, behind the scenes or whatever you plan on putting on your site, they will always go and look for you.
I'm sure there are other cool names that relate to you like clubbrandoniron or brandonironxxx or so. At the end people are interessted in the content you're providing not in the name.

There is no going rate, anymore than there is a going rate for DAP.

There's how much you are willing to pay, how much they are willing to take, and the possibility that these two field have a point at which they overlap.

Good luck!

They don't look like they are just squatting on it, waiting to try to sell it. Looks like they are actively using it for business. Of course, I'm not a lawyer - but I'm guessing that that would make it harder if not impossible to pry them off.

Check out http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/whois/results.jhtml;jsessionid=2MU4AA5QQ24WKCWMEAPSFEQ?whoistoken=0&_requestid=107555
anyway. It will only take you a couple minutes. Maybe some of the information there will be of use to you.
For what it is worth, it looks like their registration expires Oct 6 of this year. Maybe you'll get lucky. :)

I have e-mailed the domain name owner and we are going back and forth. I am kind of ignorant about all this. He is a Montreal-based web guy who is asking me what I want to pay. I don't know what to say.

Katja's got a good point, the URL I think would be nice to have but not absolutely necessary IMO.
How about therealbrandoniron.com or theonlybrandoniron.com Then just get some SEO done on your site so if someone searches for your name it comes up high on the search.

there's always the option of an alternate domain name... such as www.brandonironxxx.com or the new .xxx domain names.

Do you have your name trademarked?

From internic:
Under the UDRP, domain-name disputes must generally be resolved in the same way as any other conventional dispute: by mutual agreement, court action, or voluntary arbitration. Without a court order or consent of the registrant, a registrar will not cancel, suspend, or transfer a domain name.
The UDRP also established an administrative procedure for speedy, low-cost resolution of a specific category of disputes: those arising from abusive, bad faith registrations of domain names. In such cases, – commonly called "cybersquatting" – a holder of trademark rights initiates the administrative procedure by filing a complaint with an approved dispute-resolution service provider. In order to have the domain name transferred or cancelled, the trademark holder must establish (1) that he has a legally recognized trademark in a name that is identical or confusingly similar to the domain name; (2) that the current registrant of the domain name has no legitimate rights in the name; and (3) that there has been some evidence of bad faith or abuse. (Please note that this is just a summary of the applicable provisions; please refer to the full text of the policy for details.)

I gotta agree with Katja too. Sure it would be cool to have the "real" domain name. Obviously. But if you're gonna have to pay a bunch of dineros to some guy who's trying to use your name to make money I'd say screw it.

The real fans couldn't care less about the name. We just wanna see your nasty stuff online.

It all comes down to how much you're willing to pay.

Why do you want it? If it's just for personal satisfaction, that's one thing. If it's because you think there's business value, I'd think hard about that.

Back in the '90s, someone who typed in carlsjr.com and found Carl Smith Jr. might have been stumped. Today, anyone will be able to google their way to you in seconds. Your domain could be pink-elephants.biz and people would find it, I'm guessing.

Don't overpay. Lowball him.

You have several options:

1. buy the domain

2. use the UDRP if you have your name trademarked.. it looks like this site is being used to make money off of your name. If you don't have your name trademarked, do it.. it might still help in this situation..

3. register an alternate name ie: brandonironxxx.com, brandoniron.xxx, brandon-iron.com, etc.. you can do this in addition to any of the other options.

4. keep a close eye on their registration, and scoop it up if it expires.. be aware that it may not be available immediately if it expires, there is a "redemption period" where the name can be reclaimed by the previous registrant.

I would make sure your name is trademarked, register alternate names, and use the UDRP.

Whatever you do, DON'T register thru Network Solutions.. they are the most incompetent idiots you will ever deal with, and it's been this way for years...
They charge BMW prices, and deliver Yugo service..

Use GoDaddy, Dotster, OpenSRS or one of the other registrars.. you'll get a lot more bang for a lot less buck, and a lot fewer headaches in the process.

Google "Network Solutions" Complaints for more info..

Well I wouldn't offer any more than 1000. I don't know what your income is but that's all it would be worth to me.

There is nothing wrong with "www.brandonironxxx.com" or "www.brandon-iron.com" now is there?

good luck

I agree with the above, don't get screwed over big bucks for nothin, personally I wold stay away from registerfly as well, I have several Domains through them and they are constantly getting locked out, and thier customer service is very condecending, and will only tell you to send an email that won't get answered for weeks.

Brandon, looks like it is one of those companies that register a whole load of pornstar names to sell movies. I would not offer them more than costs for it, maybe $100 extra. If you want to go the UDRP way, you need to have a trademark on Brandon Iron, if you already have that, you have a good chance of winning, since you obviously can win on the points 2 and 3 that Oatmeal mentioned.

Is Brandon Iron your birthname?
Then it would be much easier to get the domain name.

Otherwise I would agree with Katja.
Just take any other name.
After Katja signed for lifeshows, your official site will be listed on all search engines at the top very soon.

Brandon - you can still get BrandonIron.net from what Network Solutions search is saying.

Pay the $30 for the domain name itself rather than let this person try and take you, but I'd suggest that you do it now, because this guy probably watches the porn boards too.

Step one: I registered www.brandonironxxx.com today for $9.20 for one year!

Step two: Build site and invite Katja over to test out face-sitting cam that will be on my nose.

Step three: Laugh all the way to the bank and take over world.

Thanks! This journey of a thousand miles just took its first step. Thanks for the help!

(Thanks, Techie. I used godaddy.com. Fast, cheap, and easy for non-techies like me!)

TonyC,

I'm always looking for the place that won't hassle me with trying to force extra services on me for the lower price they offer for domains.

I've never dealt with most of the cheaper domain registration services, because they try to sell you a higher rate hosting package to give you a cheaper domain name.

Is GoDaddy.com and company that will just give you the domain name for $8 without having to pay for their hosting too?

Is there a catch with GoDaddy? I need to get a new domain myself and would appreciate any information you have on GoDaddy.com or other options.

I don't know if there's a way you can get him to say his site has nothing to do with the official home of Brandon Iron.

Maybe it's enough for you to mention it on your site or in the searchable meta tags so google and other sites and pick up on it first.

When I get cheap offers on domain names I don't bother negotiating.

While we're talking about this is there anywhere good to sell domain names? We have stuff like DVDJam.com and DVDeverything and a bunch of AdultDVD ones to sell. Doesn't look like ebay does very well with domain name sales.

Brandon, just out of curiousity...did the guy that took your name as his domain name happen to be a Las Vegas welder that specializes in very elaborate front doors and gates? There is a company there called 'Brandon Irons.' When I lived there, it felt funny when they came to my house to do an estimate and parked a huge Brandon Irons truck outside. I was too shy to ask if they knew about the true creator of AGSOI.

I believe if you have your name trademarked with a federal ID#, then you may have a legal angle in your favor. Otherwise, just follow Katja's advice of being brandonironxxx.com or whatever.

It's so true that your fans will be so happy that you have a site, that it won't make a dif. Seems like your movies are so anticipated that your fans would love to get their fill from your site while they're waiting for the next flick to street. Also, be sure to ask your webmaster about the right metatags so that when your name is googled, your site comes up on the first google page. Gawd, I'm such a cum-covered geek.

Btw, I didn't mean to make light of your situation in my last post.

Brandon,

If what LadyB said about www.BrandonIron.net still being available is still true, I'd reccomend you grab that one as well. Once you have it, just get it set up to auto-redirect any visitors to www.brandonironxxx.com

That way you'll own two of the versions of your name-site, both going to the same site of yours..

Again, thanks!

Hi Brandon,

Sure I come to do a live show if you pay me what my ass is worth. lol
Maybe you should host your site in Germany, I'm not a lawyer but it seems to me that there is a lot of paperwork involved for US webmasters now that the 2257 law is in effect.

No, I wouldn't recommend this.
German laws are very restrictive when it comes to porn.
Brandon wouldn't be allowed to sell DVDs via his site.

To any German smart ass
Of course I know about the changes in the "Jugendschutz"-laws and the "Versandhandel"-laws. But it doesn't change very much in practice.

Yeah, the great JFK and his memorable Berlin speech just inspired me to a new Brandon Iron series.

I STILL HAVE A CUM BUCKET IN BERLIN
I STILL HAVE A CUM BUCKET IN VENICE
I STILL HAVE A CUM BUCKET IN PARIS
I STILL HAVE A CUM BUCKET IN BOMBAY
I STILL HAVE A CUM BUCKET IN HONGKONG

Unfortunately due to 2257 this will never happen.

Step two-point-five: Make sure that your website is prominently displayed on the back of all of your DVD covers. That way, someone browsing covers in the online shops knows where to go in order to check out your stuff before buying.

Step two-point-seven-five: If you don't have information about upcoming and new releases on your site, make sure that you have prominent links to the upcoming and new release section on PXP's site.

I just took the advice of everyone and reserved threesomebody.com. Now when I make it big as an ADT poster, no one will try to profit off my success. I want pictures on my site of various posters sitting on my strap-on. Any volunteers?

$5 for a year through ICDSoft. I have used them for hosting and domain registration for several years and I have never had a single problem. They offer some really great hosting plans, if anyone is looking for that.
