Following that, we have distinct technological eras: The VHS Era #1 - When movies originally shot on film were released as the first porn on VHS titles The VHS Era #2 - When movies moved from being shot on film to being shot on video, and released directly to the consumer without ever being released to theatres The DVD Era - The DVD became the dominant media for release of porn We are now in flux, with DVD remaining the dominant media for outright sales of porn, and Membership-based Internet sites offering streaming and downloads of movies and scenes. Since Blu-ray never caught on with porn, website downloads are basically the only way to get porn in 1280 x 720, 1920 x 1280 HD and 4k resolutions. Although, today, almost all porn is shot in HD, when it is released on DVD it is only in standard definition, not HD.
