I fucked up tonight in processing the forum database to prepare for the introduction of embedded images and a new system of smilies. I stripped out smilies from all old posts. Oops.
So we lost all the smilies in the old posts but there's some new ones to play with now. You can see the complete list at forum.adultdvdtalk.com/forum/pop_icon_legend.asp * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * [o\|] * * * * * * * * * This is a signature Edited by - Drew Black on 5/31/2007 3:28:57 AM Edited by - Drew Black on 5/31/2007 3:44:19 AM
It's much easier for me to add new ones now too if there's others people want. I'm thinking about doing a popup window mechanism for adding smilies along the lines of the URL button. That way people won't have to remember the keystroke sequences.
Niiice. The code for a masturbating banana is neechwank. No one else can say they're named in ADT forum code. I know all these smilies will get ample use. But I absolutely love Every time Miss Jenna Haze graces us with the honor of her presence, I will have to break out the . Followed by the
Please do. And if it's not too much trouble, I've always wished there was a quicker and easier way to bold and italicise text. For those posts with several movie titles in them.
So all those times I was really just being a dick and put a winker at the end to say "I'm really not a total asshole" now look like I'm just a total asshole? GREAT!!
You like to make sure your spankings are not some pussy-footing around, playing at it affairs, don't you..you want it to hurt like I mean it. I know your type. You probably tease people with offers of sexual favors when you're drunk, too, but ultimately balk - you ain't walkin' right for a fuckin' WEEK.

I expect to see some quality smilie use out there, guys. They're like swears - throw too many out there and they all become meaningless. Three - I did use your page to grab some. The dead horse and the soap box should come in very handy.

I feel honored that the most apropos smilie on the board is named after me.
No, and the intent is to never allow the hotlinking of images. We do not want to steal other site's bandwidth by hotlinking to their stuff in the forum. All images will be uploaded to our servers to appear within forum posts or reviews. There was a brief period today where image hotlinks were enabled but that was a mistake. This is a signature

How do you tell when someone's leeching bandwidth. I mean, how do you investigate exactly who's doing it?
http://www.xxxporntalk.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/freak.gif This is a good one too. I'd call it "gah" Edited by - nietzsche on 5/31/2007 11:15:21 PM
oh, went right over my head. I asked steph what you meant and her response was along the lines of "duh? haven't you ever used a forum besides ADT?" and pointed me in the direction of how other forums handle smilies. I don't like forums that have all of the markup code listed on one page. Rows and rows of animated gifs are distracting when trying to type up a post. I will do a popup mechanism much like the URL button. But I'm going to finish the image uploading system first.

I hope you're not doing all this work because you want to sell the place.
I'm doing all of this work just to get a little caught up with the times. It's been years since we did some serious upgrading, at least that's how it feels to me writing the code. Re: leeching bandwidth. It's hard to detect depending on a site's traffic levels. I have written utility scripts that can scan IIS log files for patterns that look like leechers. It's pretty obvious when requests only come in for image files but not for the page(s) that those images should appear on. There's also ways to block leechers using various http referer and session tracking systems. I'm not so concerned about it since we started hosting elsewhere. We have tons of bandwidth available. But I know what it's like to be on the bad end of the deal with leechers and prefer not to allow our site to do that. (The flip side of this ends up being users stealing images and posting them to our servers.) The primary reason for requiring all images to be on our servers is purely a legal issue. We're ultimately responsible for the content that appears on the pages generated by our server. If the HTML is generated by adultdvdtalk.com and the HTML code loads images from a different domain we're still responsible. It sucks but that's how the 2257 stuff reads. That's why I have to write this whole crazy image/file uploads monitoring system. It's unrealistic and unfair to expect moderators to look for bad images in every post of every topic. The system I'm writing will make it very easy for one or two people to keep an eye on every single file that gets posted to our servers. Members that abuse the system will find their image-posting privileges revoked.
Well given the amount of work you've been doing, it was probably a bit much for me to think the reference would be gotten. Really, I find the window of gifs a little distracting. I wouldn't have much use for it - the Firefox extention for marking up text wasn't made for me.
Is there anyway we can add these: kierkhype bs tonyc (joking) crazyeyes Edit cause of linkage problems. Edit #2 This is going to backfire isn't it? Edited by - kierkegaard on 6/11/2007 7:22:35 AM Edited by - kierkegaard on 6/11/2007 7:26:58 AM
Check your email. :) Just sent it, and a couple more related smilies to you. How about the one I sent you a couple weeks ago? Will it be added to the selection? Thanks
