Mainstream movies never go out of circulation. However crappy, you can always find a copy of "Howard The Duck" somewhere. The same can't be said of porn titles though. I've been looking for a copy of the following Jenna Haze titles for years now, with absolutely zero success: 4Play (Sintec) Eat At The Pussy Cafe 6 (Ultra Image) I Love To Swallow 1 (Sinister) Oral Adventures Of Craven Moorehead 8 (Celestial) University Coeds Oral Exams 7 (Dane) Your Neighbor's Daughter (Leisure Time) You could release any of these titles and they'd sell/rent a ton of copies - if for no other reason than that they feature Jenna Haze. Are the copyright owners so dense as to not realize this fact? Have they fallen into a hole and can't get out? What gives?
^ This is true - many of the non-porn films I need, I simply can't get. But, porn is a particularly special case - it's unbelievable how many films are impossible to find, and then when you find them there are whole scenes missing. Plus, with non-porn, there is usually someone selling the VHS on ebay for a ridiculous price. I wish there was an ebay for porn that was easier to navigate than the stupid adult section of ebay that seems determined to get you back to the kid-friendly area with every click of the mouse.
I think out-of-print porn is harder to find due to the "illicit" nature of porn and the majority of porn watchers are clueless idiots (present company excluded) who don't know Jenna Haze from Purple Haze, and the illegal filesharing community makes them even dumber by stripping away titles, names, studios, etc.; so "Jenna Haze scene from Eat At the Pussy Cafe 6" becomes "Hot teen gets it good!!!!"
Oral Adventures Of Craven Moorehead 8 (Celestial) Volumes 1-10 were never released on DVD. However, I do believe that VHS copies are still available for sale. http://www.stoneycurtisxxx.com/display.php?ser=4 You can navigate your way (if the link is not direct) by clicking on Celestial > The Oral Adventures of Craven Moorehead.
I think it simply comes from an overall glut in the market. Mom & Pop stores have very little shelf space compared to what's released monthly or yearly. Even online warehouses probably eventually run out of space, even though they can carry more films. I think a lot of films simply won't sell well due to a glut of films on the market. A few years ago, there were said to be well over 10,000 adult films produced yearly. Combine that with say the same amount produced the year before, and adding from every year for at least the last 10-15 years, and it's clear a lot of films are simply gonna be lost eventually....some of them actually really good films that were highly praised or sought. It's a shame really. I keep hearing overall production has slowed, so hopefully films being produced right now won't be disposed so easily.
^ It's even simpler than that. As older titles sell-through (i.e. all copies are sold; none left), the studios don't reprint the titles because there is not enough and/or fast enough sell-through to make it economically viable. This, of course, is exacerbated by the glut of new product in recent years, as has been pointed out. A number of years ago, guys like Dave Cummings said that he needed to sell 1,500 units of a new title just to recoup his production costs and to start making money. Extrapolating this to reprinting out-of-stock titles, I'm guessing studios need to replicate a minimum 500 copies at a time, AND expect to sell-through them over a 3-year period, to make it economically viable. Also, they would probably need to sell a minimum of 200 copies to distributors within 90-days to recoup their out-of-pocket expenses. Many studios are now, in fact, dumping a lot of their older stock, which is being sold-off at $5-$8 retail per title, to consumers from outfits like WhackyDVD. I hold out very little hope that studios will be able to keep their back-catalogs in print. There are many possible solutions to make/keep older titles available (and I mean on some physical media, not just as Internet scenes). We can discuss this further. However, until it can be done without immediately being pirated and appearing on every tube and bit site, we are in real danger of losing our porn history. One possible solution would be to permit copying of titles -- for a fee -- for distribution to others. I was a consumer of "New Age" music back when it first started. It was then a very small niche, not unlike porn, where we talk in terms of 500 to 5,000 units being sold. Companies would remind you that "copying was illegal," HOWEVER, they also said that you could make a copy of the DVD/cassette (say, for a friend) provided you sent them $2/per copy made. That was it. Within the greater porn community, we have the ability to keep older titles "alive" -- provided that studios would accept a similar model. And, $2/per unit is about all the profit a company makes from a catalog title, anyway. This is a work-a-round, NOT a retail solution! However, this is the type of creative thinking that needs to be explored.
you can search adult dvd market place and online stores like that who seel used dvds and you can input titles you want... on a want list on those sites. good luck
I think we may as well forget about physical media for the non-famous older titles; the pool of interested and knowledgeable potential buyers is just too small, and shrinking all the time. If these titles survive at all, it will be via some style of online distribution, because it's the cheapest and easiest way to distribute.

I just think it's ridiculous that Jenna Haze's first ever scene is only available at like ONE outlet and only on VHS. Seriously, WTF. Nobody's going to convince me they can't sell 1,500 of anything that has Jenna Haze in it. You could film that girl taking a dump and sell 1,500 copies at one trade show.
Her first scene might be on a compilation dvd somewhere. A check at iafd.com shows 458 Jenna Haze titles. It's not surprising that the producers and distributors will concentrate on the newer stuff and neglect the older stuff; that's an overwhelming number of titles.

IAFD is horribly incomplete. I've got Jenna listed in approximately 700 titles.
bad titles are just forgotten about slowly . like redlights "Someone's Daughter" number one and only, made us all remember as we watched a young girl get fucked that it was someones kid . they had one come out not to long ago called "Lick Her Ass Off My Dick". which we've all seen before in movie and didnt really need a series for.
Of course, IAFD is incomplete, because it depends upon a relatively few number of porn viewers to collate its data. Considering the huge number of porn titles (most of them totally forgettable) that are produced each year, the wonder is that it has managed to record so many of them. Also, do you know how many of those 700 titles of Jenna's have original scenes? I know the IAFD does list some compilations, but most reviewers are not interested in submitting those to the IAFD. Keeping up with the original stuff is hard enough.

It would be more complete if they went to a Wikipedia type model. I've submitted information for updating only to see it go unchecked for two weeks, then I receive a return e-mail saying "where is the link to this info?" Seriously, that's a stone age approach to doing things.
I doubt they want to rewrite the entire code for the site. Furthermore, I'm not sure that they want to let people enter data who might be biased against a performer, director or production company. Without naming names, I can easily see somebody putting a certain male performer in the cast list of every gay movie.
Your assessment is nonsense. Also, as has been mentioned, the IAFD does not go out of its way to list compilations. I'm sure the difference between the IAFD's 459 current Jenna Haze listings and your "approximately 700 titles" is due to compilations. I say put-up or shut-up. If you can't produce a list of titles you feel are missing from the IAFD Jenna Haze listing (which would mean approximately 240 by your claim) -- and post this list in the IAFD Direct forum here on ADT -- I say you're part of the problem. No, it would be fucked-up (the "Wikipedia type model"). I guess they should enter every bit of user-submitted information "as is" without checking and/or vetting it? Damn them for asking for a link to a source and/or claim.
That's not really the problem because in your senario the movies still exist somewhere. If the a dealer got rid of them to make room that means someone bought them or has them unless the dealer destroyed the movies to make room. If someone gets product that doesn't move from a dealer that means they got them cheap and that person would sell them cheap to get rid of them, so they'd be out there somewhere at a cheap price. I think it has more to do with the fact that porn has low production runs (compared to Hollywood) and there just aren't a lot of unsold units of certian porn movies out there.
Really? Unless a person's just nostalgic for J. Haze, I can't imagine there's a big demand for her older stuff when she has tons of new stuff constantly coming out where she's a better performer, looks better, and probabaly has better production values at pretty reasonable prices. I'm not saying there aren't people who want to see that stuff but I'm betting there's not as many as you may think.

I never saw a video store "throw out" or "got rid of" of old mainstream or adult movies. They just place them in "for sale" bins after they have squeezed every cent they can get out of them. And they do not sell them cheap either (I have never seen them go below $7-10). The good titles go pretty fast, but the dogs stay in the bin (that goes for mainstream movies as well as adult titles). A lot of the video stores who do not buy that much new product keep old junk on the shelves for months and years as it makes the "adult section" look that it is well stocked (volume wise, but not necessarily quality wise), when in reality it is not.
No...I'm not talking about a video store having a sale. I'm talking about warehouse type dealers handling unwanted backstock or even a store going out of business. They usually get rid of that stuff in bulk to a buyer of some sort at a dramatically marked down price. The poster I was responding to said the movies don't exist because sellers get rid of them and I responded that those movies do exist somewhere even if the warehouse couldn't sell them unless they were destroyed. If say the series CHUBBY GIRLS WHO SWEAT DURING ANAL volume #1-10 was a bad seller/mover and the dealer couldn't get rid of them he might sell the whole lot (bulk) to someone for next to nothing and that person might try to sell them on eBay or on some site for a cheap price. Long story short...if the title was a poor seller that means they're out there somewhere and don't simply disappear. With mainstream movies in most stores the the movies they can't sell stay on the shelf for awhile get's marked down a time or two and if they can't sell them they get them out of the store and send them...somewhere. Soon afterwards you see those movies turning up on oline sites being sold very cheap. Edited by - draxxx on 10/31/2009 1:11:21 PM
Titles eventually sell-through -- completely -- don't get printed again and are gone from being commercially available. They "don't exist" anymore. Of course, they "exist" by virtue of copies being owned by customers, and the odd copy here-and-there that is unlisted, unsearchable (thus unknown) and, for all intents and purposes, gone. Connecting those that want with those that have becomes the issue. And, it's not easily solved -- particularly in ways that are economically viable. Where do they go to die? Easy! They are on life support at the local swap meet and the administer of the respirator is the guy with the table of VHS tapes for $3.00. He'll usually have a box on the back side of the table with an XXX on it.

Another outlet is they are dumped off on a larger chain of video stores who rent them for a bit, then they resell them to a smaller mom & pop store out in the middle of nowhere, who then in turn has a blowout blitz sale to get rid of them and then they go to the swap meet as indicated on my above post.

Warehouses cost money to lease/build/maintain. There may mot be compelling reasons to use expensive storage space for a title hardly no one wants. I think some time back Excaliburfilms used to duplicate older out-of-print titles, but I don't think they do that any more. When video stores go out of business, either the owner keeps some of the inventory (the good titles, and garbage he can't sell) or tries to sell off what he can. A lot of the owners or those who bought a large part of the inventory try to sell the movies off through eBay and other such places. I am talking about mainstream movies in particular. Try to check some of the old titles in VHS (even those that have been remastered on DVD) and see what they fetch for. In many cases the seller asks ridiculous prices. Adult titles are a bit more problematic to stock and re-sell (even through eBay).
I think this is the biggest problem for porn, more so that than film deterioration. My ideal solution: Have a central repository where everyone could send their "orphan" porn, and it would get digitized and cataloged and made available for purchase via internet download. And have some sort of mechanism where the owner could get paid a portion of the sales if they register themselves and their titles or something like that. Maybe even have an incentive program to get people to send in their old porn, with bigger incentives for original boxes and boxcovers, and incentives for those who to digitize their VHS tapes. Of course pirating and tube sites are always a problem, but I think people would pay for convenience of being able to search and find what they want, and for reliable availability (2 things the tube/torrent sites lack).
We will NEVER have a meeting-of-the-minds on your belief in the "Wikipedia type model" and its value in accurately documenting and cataloging porn. Whereas mainstream movies have a vastly-larger number of interested parties, and the studios themselves provide extensive resources and documentation that is, for all intents and purposes, accurate, porn simply does not. I have had extensive experience, and can tell you that it takes knowledgable editors to sift through the raw information and user-submitted corrections in order to create and maintain a working/useful database. And, one that is constantly being updated and corrected. I will look into the "35 Jenna Haze original content titles not listed on IAFD." As to the "218 compilations with Jenna Haze again not listed on IAFD," these are of very-low priority. If you're familiar with how the IAFD actually works, you would know that ALL data in the database is derived from the information entered for complete movie -- NOT by individual performers. The amount of time it takes to gather, correct and enter the necessary information from compilations -- 90% of which are notoriously lacking IDs, sources and even the most basic information -- is seldom worth it. I know, I've done it. Numerous times. Entering partial information for titles is not a preferred option. While it may satisfy some fanboys (all they care about is their object being credited), partial information is not what the IAFD is all about. Another important consideration you must appreciate with compilations is that, you MUST have the movie in your possession in order to determine who and what is actually in the movie. The products and descriptions available from all the usual online "sources" are virtually useless when it comes to compilations. You've taken the time to "put-up" by responding to my challenge, and I respect this. You have separated yourself from the typical fanboys :) And, this is why I will now look into the "35 original titles," as promised Now, if you'd really like to be of help, check out this thread. Whether it's the IAFD -- or Wikipedia -- somebody has to do the research and submission. It might as well be you Tobias, our Jenna Haze follow-up will be in the following thread (not here): Jenna Haze Original Titles Not Listed On IAFD Edited by - BigBobxxx on 10/31/2009 7:38:00 PM

In a fantasy world perhaps. Ideal solution no doubt. But very unrealistic. Who would set it up? Who would finance it? Where would the movies be stored? Only available via internet download? Like what, Flash player, burnable? Would original tapes/discs be destroyed after they are transferred to servers? What would be the point of gathering original video boxes? For archival reasons? Let us say 100 people send a VHS tape, Beta tape, DVD-R of "XYZ" movie over a period of 6 months. Who would sit there and review them from beginning to end to determine which has the best audio and video quality, which has tape damage at some point, which is dubbed in French, Italian, German. Which is the more complete copy, if deletions have been made either by a number of different distributors or movie collector? What about movies that perhaps may be complete to a certain extent but contain content that may be problematic (non-consensual sex, fisting, golden showers, etc). Then you get into formats (PAL, SECAM, NTSC, VHS, BETA, DVD) which may be difficult to transfer. Then how would you know and how would it be advertised about the condition and content of a particular title you may be interested in downloading? Just because a title may be out of print does not necessarily mean it is considered in "public domain". Who would do the necessary legal research in order to determine its status, and whether that particular title could be added to the "downloadable" catalogue? Edited by - heynow on 11/1/2009 11:22:05 AM
I often wonder where a lot of the made-for-Web has gone, and why it has gone away. A lot of the early scenes shot for RealityKings are nowhere to be found, and a few scenes shot for BangBros as well. RealityKings used to have a MMF scene with a redhead named Allie that I've been looking for for about three years now with no luck. Likewise, Anabolic and Diabolic used to feature some "behind the scenes" content on their subscription web sites. One was called "Office Whores" or something like that and another was called "Tuesday Surprise" or something. There were some very hot, very authentic scenes in those sections featuring a lot of new talent or girls who were in the office to audition (I'm talking genuine auditions, not the fake crap you find everywhere these days). I remember a hot scene with Erika Kane (non-audition scene), and a scene where Arianna Jolie (also non-audition scene) got fucked on someone's desk and some blond girl (a stripper, if memory serves) who was there to test the waters and ended up getting coaxed into giving a blowjob on camera.
I vaguely remember Excalibur having to stop that pratice because of something to do with pirating or copyright charges of some sort. There was another company that did something similar. VIDEO AGE was a company that often sold porn VHS movies that hadn't been put on DVD on DVDs in a bundle of 4 movies on one DVD. I thought VIDEO AGE overcharged for what some of what they offered but in many cases the movies they offered weren't available on DVD anywhere else.

More complete? Perhaps. I know one thing for sure, seeing what we have to deal with in our submission queue day in day out. The amount of errors in IAFD would go through the roof (yes, far exceeding the already sizeable amount there is now). There won't be enough editors to clean up that mess. I know I won't bother to clean up the same shit time and time again -- and you can bet your ass that will happen. And that's just the raw data part. Don't even get me started on standardization of the data -- an integral part of any decent database.
1) We are tapping into the knowledge base of fans. We are processing between 50 and 150 'corrections' and 'additions' each day. Roughly 35% of those 'corrections' have mistakes in them, some obvious, some not so obvious. And at least 70% of them are incomplete or contain data which is simply not being tracked in the IAFD at all. I'd rather have 10 guys I know I can trust than 1000 guys I don't know at all. Believe me, I have experience with both. You may call it whatever you want, but the data in the IAFD has been painstakingly collected by Peter, me and a handful of other guys and it will be a cold day in hell before I am willing to declare open season on that data. 2) Knock yourself out. Or take your chances here. I guess you could really help them out. Edited by - Walter Burns on 10/31/2009 10:46:40 PM
Please don't open IAFD up so any idiot can post film information. I like the fact it's accurate and for the amount of titles out there I think they do a great job keeping up.

IAFD won't change. The owner likes it the way it is. That's his perogative. But, 253 title errors for just one performer leaves something to be desired.

Agree with the question of compilations and the position IAFD has taken on this issue. IAFD does list a certain number of them, some of the more common titles out there. It cannot (and should not in my view) list every compilation title ever released by every company. You have no clue what is inside those numerous Vivid, Metro, etc tapes that keep rolling off week after week. A performer may only do one or two movies say for Vivid and yet you will find several compilation tapes with her name on the box cover.
Good, I'm glad it won't it's a great resource. I wouldn't call it 253 title errors. You found 35 missing titles, not title errors. And the rest are comps. IAFD has, to the best of my knowledge, given any priority to comps. Original titles are what matter anyway.

Yes. If you want to actually own anything that was on VHS and never made it to DVD you may well be SOL. I few years ago, around 2005-2006 I was inquiring with guys who staff the local dvd shops, and was poking around at all available pawn shops, but by then VHS had all but disappeared. Ebay ain't perfect, but it can be a life saver.
Tell you what, why don't you prove to the world how clever you are by posting some actually useful information? Yep. You could out those IAFD slackers by posting a movie submission (gasp!) in the IAFD Direct forum, using these guidelines. This way, the IAFD won't be able to ignore it, take "FOREVER... TO REPLY," or "{Give you} THE THIRD DEGREE" over any of the data. There's a poster who informs us that, there are "218 compilations with Jenna Haze {that are} not listed on IAFD." I have it on reliable information that, "ADULTDVDEMPIRE HAS AN OUTSTANDING LIBRARY OF SCREENSHOTS - EVEN FOR COMPILATIONS. I RECOMMEND THAT YOU TRY IT." I just took a look, and AdultDVDEmpire has 244 Jenna Haze compilations available (0 of 244 are shown as "scene indexed" using their advanced search feature). But, I'm sure you will be able to find just what you need. If necessary, I understand Google is another excellent resource. "If you have issues regarding... accuracy, that's what Google is there for." I look forward to seeing which movie(s) you choose to research and submit. If only more porn fans were this helpful

Bobxxx, you have AdultDVDEmpire's scene indexing option confused with their screenshot option. Scene indexing is only as reliable as the person who logged in the data. Actual pictures (of which hundreds of thousands are available with the screen shot option) are much less subject to error. If you see four pictures of Jenna Haze with Mark Davis, then along with other elements from those pictures, you can be easily trace which film the compilation scene is from. This is a far more efficient methodology for building a database than actually having to have the compilation in hand and spool through the disc yourself.

Okay, I'm not one to talk about occaisonaly having a little too much free time on my hands that I make comments on a porn board or review porn movies, but worrying about exactly how many scenes Jenna Haze has done and whether every compilation is accurately recorded on IAFD might be pushing it a little.
Yes the movies exist somewhere, but they don't and can't exist everywhere. A lot of films won't really get seen, and have a chance of selling well because the corner stores can't carry them due to low space. Before widespread online buying, renting, and now downloading. I was always having trouble finding certain films anywhere. None of the local or more further stores had what I wanted, so there was simply no way to get a hold of them. Online sales has bridged that gaps greatly, but still a lot of titles are being discontinued in large numbers, some even as recently made as 2008. I just ran across a film I wanted that was produced last year that has already been discontinued. Like Big BobXXX said, once the initial amount sells out, no more are made. 1500 units really isn't a lot of films when you consider a worldly economy. So unless your one of the lucky who buys within that initial period, your chances of ever seeing those films are slim and none. Luckily a lot of films seem to last for years and years, but there are a lot of films I wish I'd bought when they first came out, because there is virtually no chance of me ever seeing them now, unless they are re-released, which really doesn't happen often. Considering RK does still have lots of their early (low-quality encoding) stuff available, my guess is that whatever has been removed failed to pass subsequent 2257 vetting and the like.

To try and get this back OT, and what I think is a more interesting question: will there ever be a collector market or community for gonzo porn the way there is for 70s/early 80s features? Although obviously much smaller than the gonzo audience I find 'classic' fans to be very knowledgeable, friendly and cooperative; not to mention often obsessed about tracking down hard to find films and/or the best available copy of said film. Even with this community working in overdrive there are several titles that have been lost or are incredibly rare. Of course, they were produced during a time when porn was illegal and the prints (or even VHS copies) are much lower in number than DVD. Personally, most of the porn produced from the late 80s on seems eminently disposable, and the fans and producers have both treated it that way. Of course, sometimes what is initially treated as disposable can later become all the more valuable because of that treatment (eg. early comics)
^ I think there'll be a market for older gonzo but it'll be for a specific performer or director or series. Guys who have fav girls might like to own movies of tht star once they stop performing. I think certain gonzo series will be considered "classics" and some already are. I think some of the Jules Jordan is or will be considered "classic". Gonzo isn't really that diiferent. There was tons of not so good stuff from the 70s and 80s that's forgotten and now one cares about and some good stuff that's fondly remembered. The same applies to gonzo.
In a strange way, porn collecting has become much like comics or sports cards. There are a number of early/mid-90s flicks I've searched for for hours and they are pretty much non-existent at any price. Sadly, like BigBobxxx said, there just isn't any profit for a would-be distributor in warehousing thousands of old VHS or dvds. I would wager that 10 years from now, many titles on the best sellers charts now will meet the same fate. The major players will probably still be in business, but smaller companies will disappear and their catalogs will go with them. I recently took a look at a list of "past orders" list from my online rental store, and a surprising number of them have been de-listed since I rented them.
