Digital Playground's gonzo movies have the best video quality i've seen. Can anyone tell me which camera they use?
Are there any other Gonzo studious that use the same one?

they use several but primarily they use the professional sony HDCAMs, but quality is a combination of things, camera, lens, lighting and very importantly editing.
The most important these days is in the editing/authoring aspect but even they cant take shit and make it into gold, just ask Vince Voyeurs cutters.

Yep. There are bad cameras that yield consistently bad video but as Mike said, it's a combination. There really isn't a camera that will shoot great video no matter what. Some are better than others but it takes a skilled professional (Or a skilled amateur with a desire to do things right) to get the most out of them.

Robby D is probably the best camera guy/ lighting in the business. He seems to always be on top of technology as far as cameras go.

They probably make the other studios buy their own cameras.

Yeah, your right. There is two other directors with the skills and experience that Robby has, but they are not as well known and have not been shooting porn as long as Robby. I think eventually they will be up there with the best though.

I went to a television electronics and production school. I Worked in a TV production studio for 4 years, and General Instruments "Applied Media Lab" for 8 years. There we did research on HDTV, video compression algorythms (MPEG2 and MPEG4), and fiber optic video transmission using 1550 nanometer lasers. Does any of this count?
As far as shooting adult... c'mon you don't have to go to school, anybody can do it, and they do:)

You don't have to go to school, that's true, but you do have to understand your craft.

Not true!
A lot of directors of X rated films went to film school or have had a great deal of real filmmaking experience. Don't know about the cheaper crap companies and I'd assume not, but people like Eli Cross, Eon McKai etc DID go to film school (I'm friends with one of Eon's teachers).
Most of the filmmakers working in X rated movies during the 70s and 80s had more filmmaking experience under their belts than 90% of the young Hollywood directors working today!
