You have to use something that's not oil-based. Generally speaking, that means a glycerine-based lube. K-Y jelly and Astroglide are two well-known brand names here in the States; both are easy to find in drugstores here (maybe what you call chemists in the UK). There is also K-Y brand liquid lube (again, glycerine-based).
You should also consult online adult toystores; they usually have a selection of toy-safe lubes (and will indicate when a product is/is not safe for rubber/latex/whatever). The best adult toy store might be Good Vibrations but I don't know if they ship to the UK (or whether you wish to pay the shipping charges).
It does not have to say that it works for "rubber"; there are plenty of safe lubes that don't say anything at all.
However, since you're new to this whole thing, yes, you should stick with ones that are so labelled. Again, better online sex toy sites will specify which ones are safe and which ones are not. If you go to the chemist and just read the labels, you are likely not to see any recommendations whatsoever.

Eros is expensive by the ounce, but a good value by the application. My wife and I got an 8 oz bottle 8 months ago and it's still not gone. Rub it over your whole body and any other bodies that may be near by. No need to clean up when you're done fucking around. Just go to sleep and it will have (mostly) disappeared by the time you wake up.
Well, now that you have found some online stores and various products, you should try a few. There is no "best" water-based lube; you will probably find that certain lubes work better with certain toys in certain, uh, locations. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes so you will have to figure that yourself.
Treat yourself. Pjur Eros Bodyglide is worth the price. The product in extremely slippery, unscented, unflavoured, latex safe, feels wonderful and won't mess with your body chemistry. The following link is a UK based online shop who stock all the Pjur Eros Bodyglide Products. We've used both the white and black bottle they are pretty much the same (the product in the white bottle is apparently 3% thinner/spreads further?) I haven't noticed any difference.

No one's ever used lube during one of our shoots; not even the couple that was doing the fisting and heavy buttfucking. My recommendation of EROS BODYGLIDE is based strictly on personal experience.
STAY AWAY FROM K-Y CRAP. IT'S GROSS AND STICKY AND GOOEY AND TURNS INTO NASTY LITTLE SNOT BALLS! YUCK!
ShiWarrior we use the "Original" I think it's the first one on the list at 12.99pounds per 100mls (we pay around $30.00 Aust.) It's a great product, it doesn't feel either oily or sticky and washes off easily. I reckon any of the formats would be fine although I can't say I've used the gel.
If you want to get technical, it's plenty slippery enough but also allows enough friction. I wish I had shares in the company. Holy shit, I just noticed that they're selling it by the litre. That's enough to be considered an industrial accident. I'll have to sell the car to buy a bottle that big but I'd rather fuck than drive anyday. Have fun.

haha sounds like 1 Litre will last a lifetime! (depending on how frequent u have sex)
i think i will just get a small bottle of this Eros stuff for now, it sounds like it will be the only one I'll ever need! (but i will try some of the others, maybe I'll write a review of my findings)
Thanks all, been great help, and it has been much appreciated

We had a one liter bottle (about $50) and used it for all our sensual and erotic purposes (full body massage, toy fucking, ass and cunt fucking, extended cunt and ass massage) and the thing lasted about 2 years.
The only reason we have a smaller bottle is because when we went on vacation last year, we stopped at one of our Canadian retailers and picked up a travel size bottle (8oz). That was 8 months ago, and it's still not empty.
One Caveot EROS BODYGLIDE, as well as other silicone lubricants, may be harmful to silicone dildos, especially softer ones such as those produced by Vixen Creations (if you want to shove something up your butt, I highly recommend their String of Pearls , accompanied by Bodywise's Liquid Silk or Maximus .
another vote for the Eros bodyglide then, that makes 3
Well if i can get a trial satchet somewhere in the UK i will try it at the present moment it looks like im going to try some "trial satchets" of: Astroglide & Maximus, the others i can't seem to get in trial form
what about this "Wet Platinum" ? Is that safe for Sex Dolls ? (Blow ups) as i might try some of that

Supposedly WET PLATINUM is the same stuff as EROS BODYGLIDE , but at half the price. I've tried both and I'm happy to pay for EROS BODYGLIDE
I've never been in a 'upscale' (I hate that word) sex boutique that didn't have little sample packets or bottles of EROS BODYGLIDE . Once you try it, you won't be satisfied with anything less. Don't take my word for it, ask Devon!
your getting my addicted to it, before i got it ah well, i think you've convinced me on this one, i will try the others anyway, but i bet you right and the Eros one comes out on top of the list by a long way.. only time will tell

There is no such thing as "toy cleaner". If there is, it's a marketing ploy designed to ensnare the gullible.
Water-based lubes -- as their name suggests -- can be cleaned off with water and maybe a little mild soap.
Oil-based lubes may need a little more help, but nothing that warm water and some mild soap can't deal with.
You can sterilize some immersible toys (dildos, butt plugs) with a weak bleach solution once they've been washed with plenty of soapy water. I've heard of some people sterilizing certain toys in their dishwasher's "sanitize" cycle, but it's not really necessary. You can also use rubbing alcohol on some toys.
Here is another vote for Eros Bodyglide I discovered it 3 years ago and have not used anything else since then. It feels great has not the drying out experience most water based lubricants have after a while. It is expensive, but well worth it. I think it is silicone based. Watch out because eros also produces water based lubricants, I never tried them but i guess the water based ones all have the same problem.
My fiancee and I are unhappy about the stickyness of KY and want to find something better.
Her pussy seems pretty sensitive, and we need something that doesn't cause problems there. Water based seems the safest, but we also read that glycerin can cause yeast infections and glycerin seems to be an ingredient in most water based lubricants! Any recommendations for glycerin free lubricants?
We also need something for butt play. Oil based ones are supposed to stay slick a long time, but we are concerned that it might run down into the pussy and cause problems, since they can promote infections in that area. Do silicone based ones (such as Eros Bodyglide) have the same problems?
KY is disgusting shit. It was never intented for ramming things in and out of your ass or cunt. Under prolonged use it turns into gross snot balls. I'd rather not fuck than have to use KY
EROS BODYGLIDE is super smooth, super slick, and never, ever gets gummy. It is latex safe. It is great for full body massage, cunt and ass massage, as well as all manner of cunt and ass in and out with dildos, cocks, whatever. However, it is advisable you start with a little, perhaps on a part of your or her body a little less sensitive than your asshole or her twat. You never know what peculiar sensitivites a person might have.
Some people say EROS BODYGLIDE is not thick enough for heavy assplay. Maybe so, (it works for us, but maybe what we're doing isn't "heavy assplay." I've been meaning to get a jar of EROS POWER CREAM (Don't you love the name!) to see how it feels.
WET is too sticky for me. After you blow your nut you wanna sleep, not cleanup. And if you dont cleanup with WET you get really sticky and it itches all night.
Astroglide is shit. We were camping and picked up a bottle at Walmart. I had forgotten how bad it is; worse than nothing at all. Throw it away and get yourself a bottle of EROS BODYGLIDE !!!
Welcome runar. Maybe pick up a trial pack? We've used it for a couple of years and neither my partner or I have had any skin sensitivity issues.
PjurUSA You can read about the entire product range, get the details on the formulations...fuck we're turning into lube boffins! A couple of random thoughts, don't attempt to take a dvd out of your machine, lube fingers are completely incompatible with the surface of a dvd. Eros also has a propensity to reconstitute when wet, so take care in the shower.
The power wanking creme apparently has less slip for a little more grip, and offers a fraction more friction. They're so thoughtful those folks at Pjur, you gotta love them. I can just see the power masturbation creme snuggled up next to the hair pommade in the dark recesses of the bathroom cabinet...

I agree about Astroglide, but bought it on a quick whim. For me its too thin, so I am looking forward to purchasing Eros Bodyglide.....you better be right or else
