Here goes...which company puts out the best DVDs in terms of picture quality. Call me crass, but I'm pretty much just interested in how crisp the image is, i.e., can I see every nook and cranny? Damn the story and production value - I just skip to the action anyways!  I haven't purchased too many DVDs (yet), but the disks I bought from Vivid Raw and Metro were alright. Thoughts, anyone? As for the other distributors, well, what a complete mess and they need to improve by 100% if they are to get any more of my hard-earned money. I would make i-Candy an exception to this because they at least put some effort into the content of their Insatiable DVD even if the picture quality was lousy. The rest can go to hell for all I care. I'm sure that most porn consumers have purchased enough mainstream DVDs by now to know what the format is capable of delivering, so the smut pedlars aren't fooling anyone with their sub-standard crap. It all comes down to the amount of money the porn companies are prepared to pay in authoring costs and on the evidence I've seen so far they aren't spending very much. If that's true then I'm prepared to wait until authoring becomes more affordable and the quality of porn DVDs improve. I should also point out that I bought porn on LaserDisc for several years before moving on to DVD, so I know how good this material can look on optical disc. The quality of the average adult LaserDisc is far better than most adult DVDs, admittedly at double the cost. My votes for worst; Sunshine, Evil Angel, Vivid, Ultimate....the list is endless. The opposite depends entirely on the encoding of video to MPEG 2. While you can't improve bad video by good encoding, you can ruin good video with bad encoding. The quality of encoding depends on equipment, time and dollars. Lower bit rates take up less space on the disc, so you can add a bunch of extra stuff, but lower bit rates mean poor image quality. Also, multi-pass encoding costs more and, well, you get what you pay for. WM [Link] |
