If I have to make a decision, which one is the best
and most important porn movie, I would select
"Fantasy" by Gerard Damiano. (1979)
His "Deep Throat" is much more famous, but this is a porn movie with a message and it has
also very sad moments - excluding the end.
I also noticed Kyoto Sun for the first time, she really impressed me - and aroused me.
I think its time for a criticial ( directors cut ) edition.
If I compare this, to the near endless flood of
"fucking-sucking-without-sense-porn", this movie is high art.

I didn't want to derail the Vivid-bashing thread.
I've added this title to my rental queue.
The only three Gerard Damiano titles I've seen were "Young Girls in Tight Jeans", "Candy's Little Sister Sugar" and "Splendor in the Ass". All were comical farces. So I'm interested to see this because it sounds very different.

Caroline, I haven't actually seen Fantasy but have a great deal of admiration for Damiano. Odyssey, The Story of Joanna, Satisfiesrs of Alpha Blue and Throat: 12 Years After are all wonderful adult films.

I agree that Fantasy is quite a gem but I prefer his other films The Devil in Miss Jones, Story of Johanna and Skin Flicks. Lots of good films by Damiano, Deep Throat is probably his worse film actually.

I'm not sure I have seen it, probably not. Got fond memories of "The Satisfiers of Alpha Blue", this is probably my favourite Damiano movie.

Ive read, that "Fantasy" was - from a commercial standpoint - a creeper. It was a time, when X-rated movies were still shown
in cinemas.
Its no wonder, because the movie is dark and pessimistic,
a parable about people, who all have nearly the same sexual fantasies, but dont dare to talk about it. Its a movie about
the anonymous society, that disguises itself at a "fun society", but if you look behind this, or if you look into
the heads, it isnt. I think Damiano also criticized the porn
industry with this movie, because of all the illusions this
pornbiz is using and abusing.
He always wanted to shot a similiar movie, but no studio wanted to finance this.

It's an all around solid flick. One of my favorites from the golden age. It deserves to receive a high quality reissue. Unfortunately it probably doesn't have enough name recognition, such as Debbie Does Dallas, for any company to put the effort (and money) into it.

That is a good one as well, especially the freaky (for the time) scene with Annie Sprinkle. All the currently available editions of this film have cut out the golden shower and fisting in that scene though.

I finally saw this and liked it a lot. Very melancholy and sensual. It was a fulfilling viewing experience I suppose because the film dealt with human sexuality and not just the physical act of intercourse.
It was interesting to see Sharon Kane so young - all of that long, blonde hair - and it was the first time I've seen Paul Thomas perform. That very calm demeanor he has is very charismatic. I'm wondering if that is just part of the style from that era. Seems the older male adult actors had a certain sexy tranquility about them. A stark contrast to the hyper, spazzed-out, sweaty, gonzo males that exists today.
Brooke West was my favorite though. So very pretty and I love the way she delivered her monologue about her cheating husband. "Sometimes I fantasize that I am another woman fucking another man...."
I wish more adult films dealt with the psychological and emotional aspects of sex. It's far more engaging.

Nice description of PT Savoy, I think you really captured his 'tone' there. I would recommend checking him out in V: The Hot One and Reflections, although he is a prick in both, I think they are his best roles.

Thanks for the suggestions, BlackSix.
I desperately want to see V: The Hot One . Love John Leslie. Love Belle du Jour. Thinking I going to love Paul Thomas. It's on the list.

'Fantasy' is a typical film of that year, yet is has arty 70's titles and music. I rember the 'Bath Tub' scene rather well. All in all the film has a sort of 'Twilight Zone of Porn' feel. It is one of my favourites though.
I've got it on orginal Betamax, not DVD re-release. I would be interested to see if it is intact, as many are cut now, for a whole load of reasons!

A million thank you's. It took me awhile to hunt down a copy of V The Hot One, but I finally did and I loved it! Most of what I've watched in the last year feels like a bit of a half-assed joke in comparison. Now I understand when old porn stars and fans mourn the days when they used to make "real movies".
I'm still searching for Reflections. Any other recommends, BlackSix?

Hey Savoy, I'm so glad you enjoyed V The Hot One, it is one of my favorites for sure.
Gary Graver, under the name of Robert McCallum directed V and his other films 3AM, Anna Obsessed and The Ecstasy Girls are all worth seeing. Sex World and Nothing to Hide are also great classics that everyone should check out if possible.

I don't think McCallum directed Anna Obsessed.

The director is listed as 'Martin & Martin' but that is an obvious pseudonym.
McCallum (aka Graver) has been floated by some as the real director, the film fits his style, but since Graver went to his grave denying that he was McCallum we might never know unless someone gets around to asking John Leslie or Annette Haven.
