rather than junk jazz-rock-metal or rap... why can't someone (like the bigger companies since they boast reaping in millions a year) license billboard one hundred songs?

Other than the fact that the people that own the rights to the music would be totally unwilling to license it to be used in fuck flicks, or would want more money than the entire budget for the movie, that would be a great idea.

Incidentally, I think the quasi jazz-funk that Tom Byron uses in his recent releases (such as his POV Fuck and POV Cocksuckers lines) is pretty damn cool. Its a welcome departure from the lame hard-rock/thrash guitar that gets thrown on for many gonzo releases.

I love how 70s flicks outright stole popular songs and even complete soundtracks from other films! They only got away with it because it was still sort of underground/borderline criminal.

I agree with Blacksix (I so often do) the 70's music in films was usually cool as hell with a lot of psychedelia used. Pink Floyd was a big fave for many of them. "Censorship is the first step towards dictatorship !" Honest Ed

The craziest has to be Hot Summer in the City, which even has the Beach Boys on the soundtrack. Her Name Was Lisa also has a great scene with Led Zep on the soundtrack. Edited by - BlackSix on 2/7/2008 3:20:40 AM
It's too bad - I have a couple of ideas. Like that Deee-Lite song from the very early 90's, she does a little almost lip brrrrr or gargle thing that would fit great as a cum-gargle move. The song is Groove is in the Heart and if you ever heard it you know what I mean. Or not. Or someone could do a shot by shot remake of the video but with a scantily-clad porno chick. Hopefully Ivan has plans for this.

Just watched "Young and abused" and "Savage Lust". They had music from Pink Floyd and of all things Okie from Muscogee by Merle Haggard. "Censorship is the first step towards dictatorship !" Honest Ed
I think they should try and buy the soundtracks from things like those Animal Planet documentaries about tigers and snakes and so forth. Can you imagine Rocco preparing to make first penetration with the narrator in the background? "The male African Woolly Spotted wildebeest is now preparing to mount his chosen one. With her hindquarters in such a vulnerable position, she is helpless before his aggressive advances" Edited by - randomprecision on 2/7/2008 5:38:36 PM

A little off topic but a question nonetheless. Does anyone know the females from Young and Abused and Savag Lust? The only one listed at IAFD is Mimi Morgan in Savage Lust. A young Joey Silvera played the male lead in both. In Y and A there is a very cute brunette playing his girlfriend. "Censorship is the first step towards dictatorship !" Honest Ed
I think it's legal if the music is being played on a radio/stereo in the porn scene, and not used as a soundtrack.. I know a lot of amateur and web porn does this like inthevip.com.
Man oh man. It would have been nice to hear some Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento being played in the background of some of those Brazilian Buttman ("Bend Over Brazilian Babes 3", "Buttman's Anal Divas" & "Buttman's Hardcore Rio Carnival")... or even those "Rio Carnival Orgy" flicks.

Blacksix you seem pretty well versed in the 70's stuff. Have you seen the two movies I mentioned and if so do you know any of the girls? "Censorship is the first step towards dictatorship !" Honest Ed

Sorry backdoorman, I haven't had a chance to see either of those film yet, but now I want to check them out: Merle Haggard music in a porno! The use of Pink Floyd suggests that they might be Joe Davian films. Sady Baby is a Brazilian xxx director who made films in the mid-80s, they have that 70s extreme sleave feel with some resemblence of storyline etc. They are full of obviously faked, but over-the-top violence, bi-sexual scenes, watersports, minor scat, and if you're not careful even beastiality! His is a blood brother of Shaun Costello, Zebedy Colt and Alex De Renzy at his most crazy. Unfortunately none of his films are currently available on DVD, but they are floating around among collectors and Alpha Blue Archive has suggested they might be interested in eventually releasing some of his films.

Thanks BS I knwew I could count on you. I got the films Young and Abused and Savage Lust from either Witching Hour video or Shocking Video I believe as a double feature. "Censorship is the first step towards dictatorship !" Honest Ed
I just recently started adding menus, title credits and end credits -- all with music -- to my personal stroke compilations. I'm using Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You Out Of My Head for my music. I use the original track from the Fever album for the title credits and a 32-second clip for the menu pages. Then, I use the Showgirl tour version (where you can also hear audience cheering and applause) for the end credits. It's amazing how much hotter the right music makes menus and credits. FYI, if you need great FREE software to edit and trim audio files, I highly recommend Audacity (I'm using v 1.2.6). Audacity does things incredibly well that I couldn't do with software I've paid for!
I heard Kevin Smith talking one time about some piece of music in Clerks II, and I forget the exact numbers but it is very expensive. I think it was something like 25K for just part of one song. I'll get the exact number at some point and post it.
Popular music in porn? Are you guys dreaming? Ever wonder why Ally McBeal and The Wonder Years are not out on dvd? The studios couldn't secure rights for the dvd's.
Something needs to be done about the music industry and their insaine copyright restrictions. I've been saying that for years. It's really gotten ridiculous. As if those a-holes don't make enough money as it is.

Yeah xxaru and they even take time out to whine about how their product is getting stolen by all those kids at colleges and such on satellite radio. Talk about insulting to us that make a mere pittance compared to those rich assholes. They even have the fucking DJs carrying on about how terrible it is to copy something. "Censorship is the first step towards dictatorship !" Honest Ed
You have it backwards. The music industry is almost finished specifically because no one respect their copyrights anymore. Labels are merging, laying off staff and dropping bands- even popular bands- like crazy because they are losing their shirts. It is damn near impossible for any up and coming musicians to get signed anymore. Self promotion and Myspace can only help so much. Recording albums, touring and getting advertising for new music are very expensive propositions that new bands can't really afford on their own. Musicians are struggling and trying to find alternate means of making a few dollars from licensing their songs for tv commercials and other things because they can't expect to make money any more from CD sales. Furthermore, contrary to many ill informed people's opinions, the music business used to give incredible value for the dollar. A typical CD has ten songs by your favorite band that one could listen to over and over again for years on end- and all for a measly twelve dollars. Compared to going to a movie or buying a book or eating out at a restaurant, that was an incredible bargain, even if some nitwits claim that there was only one good song on the CD. (You aren't much of a fan if you only like one song on a CD). The bottom line is that it's a tough new world out there and it is very difficult for musicians nowadays, unless they are established huge sellers appealing to the older crowd who don't download as much.
what we're seeing is the industry shifting in an effort to accommodate the internet. Because of P2P its not about distribution anymore but branding. If I could easily get 10 million hits on a popular website as well as Arista. If thats the case why do I need Arista? Once artist figure out a reliable way to get paid off the internet you will see whole shifts in the recording industry.value for the dollar? you would get anywhere from 10 to 20 tracks but only three tracks were good and the rest filler...hows that value on a CD that cost 15 bucks? Also not true in fact remember when the record industry had to pay be consumers in a lawsuit for price gouging CDs? http://www.iowa.gov/government/ag/latest_news/releases/sept_2002/cd_settlement.htmlwhere just witnessing the evolution of the market and change is hard..but inevitable Edited by - alex the droog on 2/9/2008 11:53:25 PM
Hm, they should just use alternate songs instead then. Although, using alternate songs for The Wonder Years would definitely be a buzzkill for a shitload of moments in the show. Edited by - Flyboy on 2/10/2008 1:27:11 AM
this thread is very funny. the can agree with the only intelligent thing that has been said. fucking to tool is good. any album will do. all of them would be even better.
Artists never made much money from cd sales to begin with unless they were a producer, owned the record label, or negotiated a great record deal (if such a thing exist). Read this article: [ invalid url ] The problem is the industry has gotten ridiculous over copyright control. If I want to use a Ford Mustang in a film/video, so long as I’m not infringing on its trademark, I don’t have to contact Ford and ask for permission and pay an insanely high licensing fee in order to show that car in my film. But just to play 5 seconds of a copyright song I have to do all of that, AND on top of that the artist has the right to say no, you can’t use my song. That’s bullshit.
Why should one have the right to use a song in a movie that has a commercial release? You should pay for a license through the publishing company, license some inexpensive royalty free music or better yet pay one of the millions of unsigned struggling musicians to create some custom music specifically for your production in the exact style that you want. That's what us porn producers do if it is important enough for the movie.
Because we're not using the song to sell the movie... just like we're not using the Ford mustang that appears in the scene to sell the movie. We're not making money directly from the music. If you package the music up as a soundtrack and then try to sell it, that's different.
That's the only way we can do it because the music industry leaves us no other options. My point is that I think the copyright restrictions have gotten ridiculous and need to be changed.

Maybe the "I should be able to download everything for free" generation really doesn't understand this, but it has always been necessary to pay a license fee to use pop music in movies. There is nothing "getting ridiculous;" the system is essentially the same as it has been for decades.

Hello..This is NOT Mindee...I'm her husband, and I run a couple of radio stations. I thought I'd add a couple of points to this discussion. You can use ANY licensed music that you want provided that you pay the writer for for their permission. Radio stations used to be able to use any music behind commercials, because your ASCAP, BMI & SESAC licences covered it. But when guys like Pete Townsend, Michael Jackson and Ringo Starr figured out they could sell their songbooks for millions, all the new music license contracts prohibited the use of so-called popular music without the consent of the composer. While the composer might not wish to grant the use of their music for an adult video, there is no prohibition against it. It is more likely that you would see some of the hip-hop and alt artists be more willing to sell the rights. But, more likely the problem will be that the cost for use of the music will not be profitable for the video producer.
Let's clarify: (1) You can broadcast any existing recordings on the radio as stand-alone entertainment programming if you pay the applicable ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC license fee. (2) You can make a sound recording of someone else's music without their permission if (a) the music has been previously recorded by that person or pursuant to a non-compulsory license entered into by that person; and (b) you pay the applicable (federal statutory) compulsory mechanical royalty on all units sold. Synchronization licenses (i.e., licenses to synchronize music with filmed material -- whether for movies, television, music videos, or commercials) are not (and never were) covered by ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC bulk license fees or compulsory mechanical royalties. .
