It's the evolution of a profession. The aggression and mechanical sex look a lot like the pressure to use steroids and hormones in pro sports. Steroid use is limited by the respectability of mainstream entertainment. The primary limit in porn is diminishing financial returns, so the pendulum may eventually swing back as performers see less incentive to get hammered and choked.

There is a sort of naturalness and innocence to 70s porn that, in certain ways, is endearing. Nevertheless, the extraordinary amount of power anal and the invigorating pace at which the industry goes through young hot girls makes me happy to live in these interesting times.

Apologies for all the quoting / wall of text, but needed it all..
Me too. A quote taken from my post here - Adult DVD Talk Forum Topic
Down to exactly the same year, Flesh Hunter 1 was 2002.
I didn't see this thread when I started What has changed in porn since the 70s? but that sort of went into plot when this is exactly what I wanted to talk about, the sex, and the change for eroticism to...
Exactly.
And reading this thread if so many of us see that and long for more erotic porn, why is it so rare?

I always felt that movies from the 90s and early 00s (00-03) were the best. I haven't seen many movies from the 80s though. Will need to check out a few of them.

Interesting thread. Some of the 70s and 80s porn quality was very bad compared to modern porn. The camera work, beauty of the women, lighting, editing and flow of the sex were very much hit or miss. We didn't often get to hear behind the scenes interviews with the people and the men were usually not very attractive. The men would almost always cum on her a-s in doggie position or on her t-ts. Almost never in her mouth and swallows were rare. The production qualities were generally very poor.
The production quality of modern porn is excellent but is still very much subject to personal taste. I for one am annoyed by all the fast/heavy metal rock music that seems to be mandatory for DVD menu music and am not a fan of wide angle closeup views of her a-s, tattoos and high heels. The good news is we're getting a lot of really hot performers these days, there is a lot more niche stuff available like swallowing AND we have the Internet to be able to purchase DVDs or download in some cases.
Someone linked to the art of sex above. That is very good. There was also a similar "instructional" DVD featuring Lauren Phoenix that I really enjoyed. It came out about 2005 and could be found by searching IAFD. My point is such movies do exist and seem to be popular, if not in the minority.
So overall I think things are much better today but we think about old porn sometimes probably for the same reason we think about old classic cars etc. Who wants to drive a car without power steering?

70s/80s porn was better because the performers looked like real people. They were hairy, as people are meant to be. I love the new HD because I like women with features, such as acne, they can't hide. If only the old stuff could all be HD I'd be in heaven. I would love to see every imperfection clearly.
