Actors to directors? Is it simply because the money is better or because they are fed up with acting or a combination of both? Apparently, Rocco said that he took up directing because now he's married, has kids and doesn't want them to see him fucking other women or something similar...?

With a few notable exceptions, even a man's performing career has to come to an end sometime. Unfortunately, someone who's spent his entire adult life fucking women for money hasn't developed many other skills to take him the rest of the way to real retirement. The smart move is to get involved in production somehow. I think the reason that more women don't take the same track is because, aside from porn being an old boy's network, their careers are generally very short and they leave at a very young age, leaving them time to build another kind of life.

Transition seems to be 3 part:
Performing
Performing AND directing in their own movies
Directing only

...From experience gained in performing in hundreds (and for some, thousands) of movies, they know how a movie should be shot.
...It may also be about control-they are the boss.
...They no longer have to f--- a girl they don't like, or are not attracted to.

It's only natural for people to rise to their hightest level of incompetence!

Seriously, though, I think many performers (both male and female) get tired of waiting around for hours on other people's shoots. Everyone has an idea about what they would like to do. It's nice to get an opportunity. With the near-constant turnover in porn, there are always opportunities coming up.

Somewhat related....I noted once while surfing the LADirect models site that while most women in the business seem to be in their early 20's, most men seem to be in their early 30's. Maybe age has something to do with it.

Some ladies have figured out that directing is something else they can do when they stop performing in front of the camera.
There are more female directors than ever before. Or, at least it seems that way.

Yeah, I suppose a drawback, though, is the added responsibility you get as a director. There is alot less pressure on a pornstar because when it comes right down to it, the only thing they need to do is fuck.
I suppose many people eventually want to do something that they see as more worthwhile and productive.
