I've been pondering this question for a while. I have more than 500 gb of downloaded porn. I have seen just about everything pornographic that can be seen, most of such scenes involving women ranging from beautiful to girls next door, all of them so good-looking that I'd consider myself extremely lucky if one of them would just look at me a second time.
I have b/g, b/b/g, b/g/g, blowbangs, gangbangs. I have swallowing and facials. I have buttfucks, double-vag, and double-anal.
I have porn stars from Shauna Grant to Samira and many, many in between. I have so much porn that if I were to watch every scene from beginning to end, I could spend more than a year, uninterrupted, doing so.
Yet still my quest continues. Another Monica Sweeheart DP, Sativa Rose blowbang, Jenni Lee blowjob, Brianna Love gangbang? Gotta have it. Damn, who is that girl on the boxcover? Never seen her before, but gotta check her out.
I can figure out what the attraction is in seeing a scene with a girl doing something that she hasn't done before -- anal, blowbang, gangbang, interracial. But does anyone have any thoughts on why it's so important for so many of us to check out the new talent, the new scenes with old talent, the new scenes with old talent doing things they've already done? In other words, for example, can someone philosophize for a bit on the allure of watching yet another Penny Flame one-on-one scene that ends in a facial, Aurora Snow anal scene, Monica Sweetheart DP, or Chelsie rae IR gangbang?

I think men are naturally hardwired to be real hogs when it comes to sex.
Men's sex appetite has no natural limit, when it comes to deciding how many pretty and sexy women they want to ride. Which makes you want to see the new porn-lady fuck, even though you've already seen the fucking of 100 other porn-ladies.
And men's sex appetite has no natural limit, when it comes to deciding how much and how hard to fuck the pretty lady they get. Which makes you want to go back to the same pretty porn-lady again and again with a hope that she'll get it harder, faster, and better this time around than before.
This explains why Kylie Ireland made such a roaring come-back with her no-holes-barred gang-bang in 'Whore Next Door' after many years of absence. Kylie was a beautiful big-tit, vaginal-only lady in her good old days. And the fact that she unceremoniously spread her pretty ass for a bunch of hard guys and even let them DAP her was too much for many porn fans, both new and old. Everyone wanted to see her do it.
Perhaps there is a lesson in this example for other vaginal-only porn ladies. Guys will keep coming back to the same pretty lady, as long as she keeps suprising them with new holes taking on more poles in ways that she hasn't done before.

Think of your favourite meal. Wouldn't you still want to eat that delicious dish one more time, even though you've had it many times before?
Dan used the word "appetite" a couple of times there and I think that's pretty apt because I reckon the perpetual obsession that both porn fans and the industry alike have with all things new is very much to do with the way porn is watched, or more accurately consumed. It gets eaten up.
This has some bearing on those regular "Isn't porn getting boring these days?" threads on this board. The palate sometimes gets jaded from excess consumption, but the industry itself can't afford to stand still because it is all about this vast rush of new releases and volume sales across many titles.
So, unlike the way some movie directors outside the adult industry use explicit sexual material to provoke or unsettle the audience (and indeed some have deliberately done this so their movies can't be simply "consumed" like porn), porn directors simply serve up your favourite dish, just bigger, tastier, fresher or with some new twist - like the new girl, or your old favourites in a new sex act.
The vast majority of what's out there is reassuringly familiar, simply more of the same, but with bigger butts, harder sex, newer girls, whatever. And you know you want to taste it, just one more time!

It IS an addiction...just like any other vice. To an uninformed consumer, a blowbang shot in 2005 with some unknown porn queen is the same as if he watched a blowbang shot in 2008 with the latest "porn star" gracing the boxcover.

Obviously I was being kind with a food metaphor; I should have moved straight to raw opium!
I think this is a fascinating subject from Pete. Ramsey, Joey, do you know what it is with always getting NEW porn, specifically? There's obviously a massive amount of back catalogue out there so you could acquire any number of movies from back in the day - what's the deal with always having the latest and "greatest"?

It's amazing that it even occurs to a man to ask why, considering the answer is about as obvious as it gets. Look in the mirror. If you see a man looking back at you, you're already predisposed to having a porn stash.

I don't dispute that. I'm just curious as to why I have to have new scenes from new stars, or new scenes from established stars, when I already have 500 gb of really good stuff that ought to keep Kleenex in business for many years! Hell, I could delete everything from my hard drive except Karina Kay, Sunny Lane, Penny Flame, Dani Woodward, Nautica Thorn, Jenni Lee, and a couple of others, and I could whack happily ever after. Yet still I buy, rent and download.

Porn is more addicting than heroin. The bad news is that there is no cure because there is no illness. That also is the good news, you can regulate using will power. All the greatest men that have ever lived have had large sexual appetites, they just decided that instead of blowing their load to porn, they would use that drive for greater things. Sex addicting can be a blessing if you can use the drive for other things besides pleasure. It gets easier as you get older.

I've often heard non-porn enthusiasts question how SexFilms remain popular despite peddling "the same thing over and over again".
Wrong: As Long As There Are New Girls Entering The Business, there is no such thing as "the same thing over and over again."

Because it's real. I could download anything, I don't find it very wrong. But it's not the same. Vinyl, CD, DVD... BD... I enjoy owning it, for myself, not to brag about. I brag about my taste and passion, but not about material things.

A healthy appetite of seeing girls on film is fine as long as you dont make it the centrepiece of your world there is more to life then sex. also dont make it a substitute for a real relationship i have found the thrill of spending quality time with a great girl who loves me is a million times better then watching numerous hardcore acts on screen in an empty room.

I would agree with the more holes, more cocks and more cum post and the "fresh new pussy" post. I would also input that with gonzo porn there are tons of "nextdoor" girls right off the street per say that find it acceptable to drop their pants for no nonsense fucking. Quick interview and then it's time to get fucked and consume cum. That is what's hot.
We all have our favorite models and genres that we follow but I would say that the customer wants to see the new girl getting fucked silly as well as the older ones to.
Never can go wrong with more cocks and cum.

I disagree 100%
Smoking, Heroin, Alcohol, etc., are all detrimental to your physical health. Kicking those habits means riding out severe withdrawl symptoms.
I've never read anything concerning the Physical harms of Sex Films; the pundits always talk in terms of Psychological harm to the individual or the entire underpinnings of Western Civilization.
Now, try beating a Fast Food Habit.......no lie, that's painful.

It's not I buy all new movies, a lot of the time I want to keep series complete which I collect and eventhough one volume might not be very good based on the cast I still buy it so I won't create a gap in my collection.

OK. The addiction thing is nonsense. We buy new porn for the same reasons we buy new clothes and new cars. A lot of people don't even wait until their clothes or cars wear out before they buy new ones. They just want something fresh. It's that simple. How many times can you jack off to the same scenes before you want something else?
Of course, this argument is a little harder to make for people who have loads of porn and keep buying more. Those people are hoarders. And porn isn't the only thing people hoard. I've known women who have shoes they've never worn. Humans just have some strange need to collect things that please them. I've known people who collected bottle caps, aluminum cans and even pennies (Not even special pennies. Just pennies).
I don't think it's a "disorder" of any kind because if it was, it wouldn't be so common. There are too many things that get lumped into the category of disorders. If all these things really were disorders, everybody alive would have a disorder. Which would invalidate the meaning of the word. I take "disorder" to mean "unusual" "aberrant" and/or "abnormal". I don't think any of those words applies to the male appetite for sex and porn.

Not really, I see my porn addiction like some people have an addiction for tobacco or alcohol. I try to buy less movies but it only leads me towards joining more websites and downloading their movies so I'm not really saving money. But why is it only "an addiction" if it has to do with something that's traditionally been frowned upon? For instance, if your whole basement was full of Star Wars toys, would anybody care? Maybe some people would think it was a little strange but almost everyone would say "Hey man. Whatever. It's good that you have something you like".
But if it's (Cue browbeating newscaster voice) pornography, suddenly, you have "a problem" and you need help.
If you just can't stop buying clothes or collectibles or antiques or whatever it is, you're a little strange but it's all good. If you can't stop buying porn, dear god! What a horrible person you are and how awful it is that you have no life! You can sit around and spend all your free time polishing your collectibles or your car or whatever and nobody cares. If you sit around polishing your knob for two or three hours a day, you're sick.
Of course you have multiple subscriptions to pay sites. If it's something you enjoy, who's going to be happy with just one?

Heh...reading the OP, I couldn't help but think of my uncle Willie who listens to nothing but classic rock radio, and hasn't bought a rock album since Led Zeppelin broke up. He can't imagine WHY anyone would still be buying music seeing as how the 70s had all the best music ever. :)

I frankly, DO go through periods where I get bored with porn. I have only recently just returned to it after an almost 18-month layoff. But I come back always, to see new girls, new trends, to see what my favorites are up to (retirement, etc).
Is Porn an addiction?
Well, if tuning into CSI or The Simpsons every week is an addiction....
If indulging in any sort of hobby such as gardening, toy trains, Godzilla models or coin or stamp collecting
are addictions, ..... (BTW: Those last two are really, really strange to me).
If having season tickets to your favorite sports team and going to the arena/stadium dressed in a $110 jersey or wearing a slice of cheese on your head or dressing like a viking is an addiction....
...then yes, porn is an addiction. If porn, or any of the above items I mentioned is running your life (especially the stamp collecting) then you may have a serious problem. Otherwise, it's just a thing
you're into. Simple as that.

To complicate matters, I wonder why we need to buy newly manufactured porn (as opposed to porn we haven't seen before). There is no possible way any of us could watch every scrap of porn made in the 1970s. Why don't we just watch all of that? Why do we need new porn titles to be made?
As much as I love Teagan Presley, I would be perfect satisfied watching Racquel Darrien or Tara Monroe.

I've have watched many classics, but I believe you watch them with the different mindset. Firstly, because they are mostly feature films and pornstars portray characters, and secondly, those pornstars no longer exist in real life in the same form as in the film. Some are even dead. In my opinion, you can't really fantasize about them in the same way.

Repeated behaviors are habits.
This is one.
When will power is insufficient to break the habit, it's an addiction whether or not you consider yourself an addict. If there are no negative consequences in your life, then you're still in the blissful stage. One way of coping with addiction is to make damn sure to stay blissfully unaware of one's own helplessness--this is accomplished by rolling around in the addiction and clothing oneself in it so as to not ever come into conflict with it or face a test of willpower. That way the addiction is never confirmed.
But like a rocket that lacks the delta V it needs to escape a planet's gravity, you're trapped into accepting whatever toll the habit exacts from your psyche / relationships / standard of living. Hopefully, the damage to your life will remain St.Croix sized, and will not grow into a Mandingo sized personal problem. So one hopes.

The hair would be different
We need our videographic deplictions of explicit sexual acts to portray current hair styles for our purposes.
We espeacially need to avoid 80's type hair.

Many of the ladies who have done porn in 1970's are now old and not so attractive any more. And although you don't see the lady's age in the porn movie. Your awareness of her true age spoils the fun of imagining yourself banging her. You know you are just watching a picture. And the reality behind that picture has ceased to exist a long time ago. That young sexy lady is not real anymore.
Watching porn is all about lusting for the young sexy lady. The sex-action and the story-line are only props that help you satisfy your lust for her. And this lady must be real in every way in order to make your lust for her real and strong.

Look the root of porn watching is your sex drive. If you don't want to watch it then do something else to satisfy your sex drive. If you don't want to change then don't blame porn. It ain't the porn, it's you.

Sex and masturbation trigger dopamine in the brain, just like any other drug, but without the nasty side effects. And like other stimulation, the more you do it the more it takes to get you off.
On the lighter side, I remember when all I had was magazines and there was a different feeling with "that new one". Never seen before layouts, I would save them till i could really pay attention to them. I had my favorites I would save but there was nothing like the first view. Now the same is true with DVDs and online videos. I can get on a website for a month and have so many "new ones" first time vows, and there is still nothing like it.
We are the first generations of humans to have this kind of stimulation and were all still figuring it out. Aint it fun???

Sex is not a behavior. It's a biological function. If people were supposed to stop having sex, their bodies wouldn't continue to produce all of the natural requisites for sexual function. A man's semen is naturally replenished every so often. This happens because it's supposed to. We get horny because we're supposed to. And it happens naturally and repeatedly. This is as nature or God (whichever you believe in) intended or it wouldn't happen.
Porn does not "take a toll on my life" because it is a part of my life that I enjoy. Without it, life would be pretty fucking dull. All this addiction crap (as far as things like porn are concerned) is part of the culture of conditioning people to believe they have no right to enjoy themselves. If that's your deal, fine. Go bang your head against a tree or something.....so as to make your suffering sufficient to please whatever masochistic desire within you demands that you be constantly miserable.

Touchy, much? Hmmmm, what might that imply?
Withdrawn.
So I took your advice and repeatedly concussed myself against a tree, and what I noticed about nature while doing so was how remarkably in balance it is. Returning balance to one's life is a cure for that very misery you mentioned. Such misery only becomes constant when you know that you're not your own, having become consumed. At that point life is not in accord with nature but contains an unhealthy crutch distracting and detouring one away from that life as lost years pile up.
So clearly my problem is not yours, since you live in such close accord with nature. So why such a vehement response? If my words don't apply to you, wouldn't you have shrugged them off as nonsense without incident? Especially when you consider how you're blissful and my misery is less every day? Well, I'm not one for ongoing arguments--that's so 1998--so this will be it for me and you all are free to make of it what you will. A porn habit seemed one of the obvious answers to "Why do we keep getting new porn?" Just as obviously, there are other answers to the question.

That you're barking up the wrong tree? Seriously. If you have a problem with porn, it's your problem. Not mine.
It doesn't seem to work very well with people, however. Because we cheat. As long as we do and you're cheating just as much as anybody else is, it's a little silly to go pointing fingers. If we didn't cheat, most of us probably wouldn't live much past our 30s. Because, you know, nature didn't intend for there to be 6 billion people on this planet. We manipulate our environment to make the world more pleasant for people to live in and more accommodating to our needs. But there's nothing natural or "balanced" about how people live. Our time will come. When we will pay for our arrogance in thinking we could cheat and get by with it. But until then, I intend to enjoy my life.
So. What I'm not understanding is why some folks are so concerned about how "healthy" everyone else is? Whether or not it is healthy for me or Tom or Harry or Jenny is none of your business. And for the record, I probably watch less porn than you do.
Because I'm tired of hearing it. It's part of an agenda that certain people are pushing and I'm just sick of it.

My take on this is:
Males of most animal species are programmed to mate with as many different females as they can, humans included.
Our society dictates that we pair up with one partner.
The easiest way for us men to for fill our inherent urges without making life complicated is to watch porn movies, with lots of different girls in them.
If you are addicted to porn, so what, lets say you spend 2hrs a week and $50 month, no big deal.
The idea that watching porn when you're single makes you less interested in getting a women is BS, imo, watching girls fuck just makes you more determined to get out there and find a women.
Porn is good! Enjoy it!

all this talk about addiction is BS, im sure its a addiction when its something thats not necessary to maintain a healthy life, but porn is a extension of sex, so therefore i believe you cant refer to it as addiction,
the reason be cant stop with not getting the latest and greatest, is the fact that nothing beats fresh never seen before material, the same old just get borring
Also media doesnt help our case, for years using pix of women to sell use shit
thus us evolving in the process, to what we are today
my apoligise if this doesnt quite make sence as it's not easy putting thought into text
Next person who referrs to it as a addiction, ant looking at the bigger picture

OK think about your porn usage since you started "using". That's right, for most, your usage in many aspects has increased. Guess what, that's going to continue without successfully implementing will power. To much of anything is BAD. For everyone that does not agree with that, your already f@#ked.
Take it easy out there, to much mind candy rots your teeth! My biggest worry is for the younger generation that has easy access to so much hardcore shit. As they get older, many will wish they laid off the sauce longer. For the rest of us, please give those cute sexy girls another doughnut! Love that fat in their asses and tits. My dream is to have a cat house.
Peace.

Hey a few quick things...
I have been doing anal on camera since '96. Twist of Fate from Wicked was the first. I did anal in all my movies as a VCA contract star ('96-2001). In 2001 when I left VCA and went freelance I continued doing anal. So really, with the exception of the early blonde years you can't really call me a vag only girl. Nowadays I am disappointed if someone hires me for a vag only scene. I prefer anal.
Many years absense? Come-back? I never left the biz. As a contract girl I did between 6-10 movies a year, in 2001 I did a ton of movies and between 2002 and 2004 I did about the same as when I was under contract around 6-10 a year.
While Whore Next Door is my favorite movie I have directed and starred in and does contain many of my firsts, anal wasn't one of those firsts. First DP, dbl vag/dbl anal and first gangbang? Yes. But I have been doin anal for a long time.
The reason I hadn't done these things on camera before? No one would take me seriously. You can still find those threads discussing it here on ADT. Everyone had it stuck in their pea-brains that I was a soft, fluffy contract girl and no one believed that a former contract girl could want to perform such perversions in a movie. Jewel DeNyle believed me. And trusted me enough to let me direct it and do it my way.
I realize that this wasn't the point of the thread, I just wanted to point that out. :)
Luv ya,
Kylie

Kylie, let me just say, that as a hardcore enthusiast, there's very little that inspires interest, like a woman rife with conviction, hellbent on convincing her skeptics she's actually an anal driven mare, rearing up for redemption, chomping at the bit, to open it up, run down any leg, and let it rip for the big stretch.
As for what's the deal with always having the latest and "greatest"?
I believe its rooted rather in an interest to foster a better perception, to experience the unpredictability of the "here and now". The fantasy is for it to be taking place while your watching it transpire. The older it is, the greater the imagination has to work, let alone to muddle through a repeat performance.
