Now I know that everybody watches porn to de-stress themselves but there are some things that we cannot run away from period. Everybody came together for AIM because yes that deals with our lively hoods in this industry, and I am proud that everyone did so. But so far I haven't seen any Pornstars come together to try and rebuild Haiti. Now I am quite sure you probably have donated 5 or 10 dollars in your personal or have even went to redcross. But no events have been put together for Haiti. Celebrities can do it and in fans eyes we are celebrities to so why can't we come together and do a benefit for Haiti. This saddens me because this effects us all as well in some way or another. Being that I am Jamaican I take it real personal and I believe that in my heart if I threw a benefit nobody from the industry would show up. This tells me where our priorities lies and its sad. So if there is something that you can do that you haven't done already please help Haiti. Thanx.

Off topic but I think it is very stupid for the Haitian government to jail those American missionaries after all the help they got from the US. With shit like that, they will get less sympathy from the American public.

Perhaps if porn were really a cohesive industry, and it were not on the fringes of being illegal, and the public were not so conflicted and hypocritical about sex and porn, then there would be a porn version of "We Are the World" in response to this and other human needs.
But porn still carries the same stigma it always has of being immoral, dirty, and corrupting. Porn stars, who understandably seldom use their real names and shun public exposure outside the requirements of their profession, might be reluctant to participate in such an effort out of real fear of calling down the wrath of the anti porn people who had been leaving them be.
And who is to organize such an effort? There IS no organization of the porn industry: no SAG or RIAA of porn: nothing but a loose bunch of producers whose only concern is making money, hiding what they do and what they earn doing it, and staying out of court.
I'm sure your right that the people of porn are like everyone mostly sympathetic, caring good people, who are grieved by, and have sent their own help for, Haiti. Personally, ADT has taught me that you're a nice bunch.
Your idea is a good one. But don't blame the actors in porn for not doing it. Blame us, the hypocrites and cowards who in private enjoy what you do and yet publicly condemn and persecute you for doing it. If you care to trudge through it, then please accept my own apology for that, and my sincerest hope that sometime soon things will be different.

I respect your opinion babe and I will accept that its sad and its true at the same time but I just feel that despite the dirty and nasty things we do we are still human and that should count for something. No matter what our job is, if there is somebody less fortunate than us then I think we should help period. But thank you again for that

There are a lot of reasons but why would I have to place what industry I can say it at. Haiti is Haiti but Haiti has people that have died period and if we have people in this business or even as fans that are that heartless then thats just sad

it's one of many disasters. tsunamis, hurricanes, etc., that will become more frequent. why is there no support for ACORN? with increasing unemployment and the destruction of democracy, the US could become haiti.

This does not seem that surprising to me given that the missionaries had been specifically told that they could not take children out of the country and that many of the children had surviving parents. The idea of intentionally taking children away from their parents isn't made appropriate if done by people calling themselves missionaries.
If Haitian missionaries showed up at a US school yard and took a dozen kids to the airport to go to an orphanage I suspect most Americans would not view that as legal. We might even arrest them... I guess the fact that they were American missionaries is more important than the fact that they were breaking the law and separating children from their parents.

Aryana: Yes, I'm disappointed in the porn industry as well as the medical devices/supply, pharmaceutical, and providers industries.
Not sure why 100,000s of dead/injured people and millions of displaced doesn't stimulate philanthropy (especially considering there's a significant Haitian population in the US). I'm not so much disappointed in the lack of magnitude of private industry contributions, but the general lack of participation or effort. For the porn industry, just setting up a match or donation of $x per DVD or subscription sold for a product would be an acknowledgment and, hell, maybe even benefit the product's sales(?). I'm sure there's other creative low cost methods they could do, if they wanted.
Duefuss: I don't think Aryana is saying they have to lobby Congress, I'm guessing she is just talking about small logistical benefits or other philanthropic mechanisms that a studio(s) or several stars could do under the guise of their profession, to multiply their effects and encourage support (i.e., AIM & other benefit events). This is just what I took away from her post, but I don't want to speak on her behalf.

I understand that she is not talking abouy political activism but rather about some organized effort to help Haiti financially or through some direct effort.
The porn industry's failure to work AS an industry in addressing its own problems any has been addressed several times on ADT to my knowledge in different contexts.
It is obvious to me, as I've said before that there IS no industry, per se, only a disparate bunch of porn makers who compete with each other for porn dollars and are often hostile to each other and who seem to regard any suggestion of pooling their resources even for their own best interests as an insidious attempt to pry into their private affairs.
In such a situation, the hope that the 'industry' would unite in a philanthropic effort, or anything else for that matter, seems only a pipe dream.
Sad.

You really have no idea what you're talking about when you bring up the topic of the so called missionaries. Watch the news/read a paper on the topic. They were jailed for the following issues; not having the proper paperwork to take the kids out of the country/possible trafficing charges. Other issues related to this were possible the child organ harvesting market. Maybe not all of the people were in on the plot; they might have actually thought they were doing good, but the organizer was definitely trying to do an end around.

Not trying to be cold hearted about HAITI and my heart go out to those people, but we have had our own share of ms fortune, when hurricane Katrina hit, i didn't see a lot of help from our own Americans let alone people on this board, so why would porn people, who trying to survive in this BAD economy send something that they really don't have, and if they did have a little to give, i'm quite sure they have done it in there own little way, nobody that lives in the US does not know about what happened in Haiti, i didn't see this when Japan got hit with their earthquake, and i think they and China averages one a year ( correct me if i'm wrong ) and we have more porn talent from japan and china than we do in Haiti, now that doesn't mean that one is better than the other, all i'm saying is that when any country has a catastrophe bring it up then, don't wait until there is a country u care about to ask people for help. Remember, we have a large homeless population in downtown LA and i have never seen or heard of any porn producer or talent going downtown LA to help those in need, let's get in the habit of taken care of our own domestic issues, then when a tragedy does happen we will be quick to help, but it all starts here in america, if we don't wanna help our own, then why would we want to help others, just my take!

First off love it is taking care of my own that is part of my heritage but it seems to me that you are saying for us to take care of americans first before we try to reach out to other that are less fortunate. Have you ever been to Haiti? How would you know what they have or the schools they or the jobs they might be able to get. Being homeless a lot of the times is based on our greedy ass government and sometimes because we are too lazy to want to do for ourselves. last time I checked America was still considered very rich which would explain why Obama decides to give Haiti 100 million or billion dollars, what ever it was. Haiti's government don't have it like sorry luv. If thats the case then I might as well say let me just help my own fellow black man...lol it all sounds real ignorant in what you applied. Sometimes peoples hearts are bigger than America and once we become unselfish in our own ways then maybe we can learn a few things. I can understand why some countries like the french or germans or even africans might not like Americans because of the way you think. Stop being so closed minded and maybe for once we can move forward in this economy and in the united states.

One of the agencies or studios should do a "Donate to Haiti for a Date with a Pornstar" kind of deal.
You can always replace the "date" with a fuck if you need more donations.

off topic a tad, but's too near and dear to me to pass up.
I wish everybody, including some on ADT, who demean porn actors as little better, or even worse than whores and dismiss them as money grubbing sluts and the like, would have a look at this thread.
I have no children, but if I did I'd be almost prouder than I could stand of a daughter who was as genuinely sympathetic and gravely concerned for the suffering of others as Ms. Starr has been in this thread for the plight of the Haitians.
Anybody here wanna tell me that Ms. Starr is a money grubbing slut? I didn't think so.

Comment on the industry...I made a thread about Japanese pornstars and one of the responders gave a good insight of how well those girls are paid and marketed over there it is as if they are a real business, working outlets that are mainstream. Maybe Porn Valley USA can take a page out of Japan's porn industry and model after it and perhaps we would have much better business over.

Here's my final take, an earthquake is an earthquake, and no i haven't been to haiti, and don't plan on going, so from now on when Japan or any other country has a devastating earthquake, i want u to get back on here and do the same thing that u doing for haiti, as well as our next hurricane that will hit the southeast again. An human life is an human life, period!

Wow, you must not understand how devastating this Haiti earthquake is. It is three times worse than the Indian ocean tsunami and ten times worse than Katrina. We're talking about 3 million people affected by this, half of WWII holocaust.
Have some sympathy for fuck sake.

First off dude, did u read my first topic, i said my heart go out to those people, and it doesn't matter the size of an quake, so just because that one was bigger than the other we supposed to forget the other ones, so if a serial killer kills 2 compared to another killer that kills 10 what's the difference? there were lives lost period, and try telling that to the families of Japan earthquake and Hurricane katrina!
And i have been down to New Orleans and they still haven't recoverd!

Sweetie if i had the ability to do something then about hurricanes or japan then i would first off. I have been in the bizz for 2 years so now that I can have some kind of weight to my name then i will use it. Using Japan and people not knowing my name it wouldnt have mattered then. So I think you are completely missing the point I am supporting Haiti because this is an issue for me NOW with the name ARYANA STARR and if Japan has another sever situation the bigger my name gets then yes i will say something about that as well. A life is a life and i don't discriminate just cuz its Haiti. i don't think you will ever get it so this convo wit you is over and simply pointless

IMO, you can't save everyone. Not saying we shouldn't help, but there is only so much we can do. If someone wants to send their money, fine. If someone doesn't want to send their money, that is fine too. I don't think anyone should be mad at anyone else for not helping though. Every other month there is a natural disaster or something for us to donate to or try to save. I for one do agree that we should concentrate a little more on ourself(US) as opposed to other countries. At least until we get our house stronger again. I mean its pretty sad when it takes weeks to get aid to people for our disasters, as opposed to a few days for disasters in other countries.
Also, for those that think America is still rich and can give it away like that....pick up a newspaper. We have a 12+ trillion dollar debt, flatlined economy, costs for international missions, costs for rescue operations/aid, still paying for multiple wars that we can't afford and will last for quite some time still. A broke America equals a weak America. A weak America equals a vulnerable America. A vulnerable America equals a country that may possibly end up in a war with a bigger super power than Iraq & Afghanistan. That wouldn't be a good thing.

Let's remember Haiti has already received a lot of money and aid. There is only soo much we can all try to do. The action to help in the aid relief effort was quick from the US I thought, very commendable of them. That's coming from a person in the UK.

Isn't the porn business being kicked in the nuts by the economy as hard as any other business now? It's hard to demand people to fork over their money to some cause when they are having a hard enough time forking over enough to pay their bills.

I definitely understand the message of this thread and I support it. There are so many issues here to dive into, but ultimately it stems from human selfishness. We are so preoccupied with our daily minutiae that we barely ever take the time to think that there are others out there whose lives are equally as important and equally as unimportant as ours. We are all part of a system that is much, much bigger than we can ever be, and yet we fail to realize our interconnectedness on the planet. Nationalistic, political, religious, economic, and ideological differences - that is, human constructs - have brought us to the point at which we will readily kill over something as intangible and ephemeral as ideas. Once we can accept ourselves as discrete individuals who are simultaneously consubstantial with not only the human population but with all life on this planet, once we can depart from this suffocating egocentrism, can we ever understand that there are major problems with the way we're conducting ourselves, and that if we ever want to see an age of compassion and generosity, we need to do some serious social reconfiguration. Throwing money at a problem is not the solution. The real solution is a transformation of consciousness.

EL TEA,
Bones Jones is correct. Here's some projections just to gain some perspective. For an estimated dead, let's just use Haitian government estimate of 200,000 to play with.
Haiti population (CIA - The World Factbook): 9.0 million
Dead to date: 200,000
200,000 / 9,000,000 = 2.2% of Haiti's population dead
US pop (CIA) = 307.0 million
Equivalent magnitude in US (dead)
2.2% * 307,000,000 = 6,754,000 dead
A 200,000 loss of life in Haiti would be equivalent to everyone in Los Angeles city (3.8 mil) AND Chicago city (2.8 mil) dead OR the entire Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro population (6.3 mil) dead (in addition to 400,000 more deaths).
So the order of magnitude of death is unreal.
Strictly regarding loss of life (and not injured or displaced), another huge tragedy are many preventable deaths in future from things like crush injuries and infection, especially, exacerbated by lack of medical facilities. This will just skyrocket any current casualty estimates.
Although disasters in China and Japan are no less tragic (in that major # of causalities & destruction), I'm not sure it's entirely applicable to compare tragedies in China or Japan as these countries have resources and infrastructure to help themselves and not solely at the mercy of international aid as in Haiti (I'm definitely not discouraging, and actually encourage international aid and philanthropy to these places). Moreover, I don't think helping out these countries is an either/or situation as we can do both.
As for justifications, to me, one can justify not helping many ways. But to me, it's just an excuse not to do something, not an excuse to do something.
As stated earlier, it's not the magnitude of help/philanthropy that worries/would worry me, but the general lack considering the above perspective and other considerations. On a related note, this is one of my huge gripes that our country is turning from the once decent humanitarian/decency machine to "sucks to be you" nation (e.g., news stories of people walking by dying people in the US), which is another tragedy of epic proportions.
Thanks anj. I commend Zoe Britton and all the girls for their work they did. There's a lot of top notch girls there.

Well again everyone is entitled to their opinion some will agree with you and some will agree with me. I know the debt America is in love and I am not asking for everyone to do something for Haiti I am asking Porn period. the dollar amount we get on a scene or from a movie if its asking too much for our industry just to donate 5 dollars from that then I am in the wrong country period. And I believe America is is richer than most countries luv, and way more richer than Haiti despite the debt. America became weak when bush decide to take office just my personal opinion again and America will not be back on track for awhile true. But to turn our back on others isnt how some of us are built and I believe in God porn or not and he didnt turn his back on me so why should I. I have a roof over my head, heat a bed to sleep on and food to put in my mouth and I am sure you have the same. So if 5 dollars is really hurting your pocket to give up then dont do it. But speaking on this industry love I am sure Porn can afford. Keep in mind no matter what it still is a billion dollar business./

The porn business is falling yes but trust and believe that some of their houses are waaaaay bigger than you think so if they have to downsize to get a reality check then so be it. People are still paying to see porn on the eb in the videos still doin the expos and the avn so how much do you think all of that cost huh. It all cost money so if you mean to tell me that porn is just that selfish that in one of those expos they cant put a sign up for donate what you can then im sorry i don't stand behind what you are saying. You can have 2 dollars and give a homeless guy 1 and haiti one do you think you still made a difference to either no. but it puts them closer to where they choose to be.

While I think people should give only if they want to, the excuse "I have no money" is just lame. There is ALWAYS a dollar to give because in America even the most broke people buy things they don't need. If giving a dollar (which most people can find hidden in their clothes while doing laundry) will hurt you then you are in some serious trouble.

Few will remember or care. We(The U.S.)can't win. First of all it seems most of the world dislikes/hates us. Yet these same people who hates us, when the shit hits the fan, wants us to fucking come to their rescue. Then when we do you know what? They bitch and moan about us not doing enough or doing it quick enough, or not sending 500 trillion dollars within 48 hours. Then of course when the crisis is over it's back to fuck you, you evil Americans. Don't beleive me? Google up the big earthquake in iran a few years ago. That'a a prime example. See if iran turned down aid from The Great Satan. That we offered them aid in the first place shows what good people we are/can be. Yet we're always getting shitted on.

I'm sorry to have brought that up it wasn't intended to upset. I think the U.S. is a good country and I get sick and tired of the bandwagon people jump on saying otherwise for the sake of it. The U.S. isn't perfect but no country really is, I think they do a huge amount for the world which to be fair isn't really something they have a responsibility to do. (let's not talk about wars, there are plenty going on around the world)
Back to Haiti, the U.S. was one of the first countries to land on the ground, send ships with aid and donate a huge amount of time, resources and effort to the cause. I thought what I heard and saw of the U.S. on the news when the disaster happened was admirable.
Aryana - I agree with what you say in principle, but I also think that now it is time for the Haitian government to take control - which they are - with what they have been given.

Well, it's not like no one is doing anything. I think Bruce Springsteen or Bono popping up during a concert played on about 40 different networks in prime time are going to generate a trifle more donations than Sasha Grey stopping in the middle of a blow job to ask for contributions will. I don't exactly remember Ginger Lynn showing up on stage at Live Aid either. That didn't seem to have much of a negative effect to the overall cause.
Besides, this is what would end up happening. A bunch of self-righteous conservative attention whores from either Congress or some religious television network would give themselves wedgies from jumping up and down about this. Eventually a big enough stink is raised so that the Haitian authorities (Haiti being a very religious country.) would end up declining the donations when word of mouth got out from where they came from.

Yeah, I can see this as being a very realistic scenario.
Religion goes a fucking long way; many would rather suffer than accept help from those seen as "immoral".
