I know this seems like a dumb question, but read with an open mind. Obviously porn stars arent actresses. I am not saying that the acting is BAD acting and not up to high standards (obviously it isnt). It just seems like everything is being exaggerated even by normal person standards. For example, take soap operas, which I dont watch. Every time I would see any piece of one it would seem that the acting was over exaggerated. Someone once told me that they do this on purpose in soap operas.
In porn, it seems even when they go to film a scene with some setup to it, all acting is over exaggerated, so they never tried to make it seem as real as they could, even with crappy acting ability that any normal person would have.
I guess the best way to describe it is take some R rated movie, maybe a movie where there is some teen girl cock teasing a teacher, and he is trying to resist. in the R rated movie, maybe the scene ends there, or maybe the teacher tries to have sex with the girl, but up to that point its just a scene that is kinda hot cause there is a girl trying to seduce her teacher.
There are million scenes like that in porn, and all you need to do with a porn movie is see literally 2 seconds of the setup scene to know that it is porn. What I am saying, is why cant they even attempt to film a "Realistic" setup scene like in a R rated movie before going into the sex ?
Does that make sense ? are there any plot type porn's where they attempt just some non exaggerated acting before the sex, even if the acting is crappy ?

You nailed it in your first paragraph - they aren't actresses and they can't act. It's doubtful that any have received any formal acting training and it inevitably shows. The exaggeration you refer to may well not be deliberate at all - it's just amateur attempts to act. It's also why 'storyline' porn doesn't grab me - too unconvincing.

I think the director deserves some of the blame too. Also, keep in mind that often time the situations are a bit over the top and the acting reflects that.

I agree about the directing, also the "writing". The most realistic looking scenes have a basic storyline/premise with enough substance to give the performers something to work with, even if it's all ad lib, even with amateurish acting. It also helps tremendously if the camera operator can hold off on going into "porn mode" shooting style, at least until the sex begins.

The worst thing about acting, is not the acting itself, be it some world class acting side to it, but the wood killing effect. When porn is on the table, I don't prefer wood killing things to be served. I'm not into getting a boner from acting. Bring on the reality show, and there's some chance of fast connection going. The best actors really doesn'ty acty much, they just have it inside them. That's why I can't watch some stupid genre filled with overacting people. They have a tendency to kill the trustworthy, so that I could quite as well watch a cartoon. Then if I look at cartoon I take it as a trustworthy cartoon thing. Acting in porn is doomed to make it untrustworthy. So now I've quit Digital Sin, they even put untrustworthy dicks and even titles in leading roles and schedules, so they have kinda asked for it.

And in terms of modern day, exagerrated acting is often used for camp effect since no one involved is taking the material seriously. OTT acting also has legitimate purpose in certain genres like comedy and melodramas, probably the two most common film genres in feature porn next to thrillers.

Some of the actors in the 70s were capable of more subtle acting, particularly Jamie Gillis, John Leslie and Bobby Astyr. The directors were significantly better at directing actors as well, Anthony Spinelli was well known for getting good performances out of the actors in his films.

And that's probably a good thing about 70s porn. Back then the bushes was so big that I got scared just by thinking of it, so seeing them around fully dressed kinda kept the drama away.
