| zambi Senior Member 1451 Posts 3/10 | During the 70s both NYC and San Francisco had live sex shows. In fact several pornstars from that era had daytime jobs performing live sex shows (e.g. Juliet "Aunt Peg" Anderson, Marilyn Chambers, Sharon Mitchell, Samantha Fox, and Kelly Nichols just to name a few). Marilyn Chambers used to perform at the Mitchell Brothers Theater and one of her shows was actually filmed and released as a porn movie. In Beyond DeSade/Never A Tender Moment she does a fisting peep show with a young Erica Boyer. The NYC shows had people fucking on stage while guys in the audience watched. I don't remember exactly when they were shutdown? Some of the old raincoater crowd guys probably remember. You can probably find articles and info online about it also. I think during late 70s early 80s when Ronald Reagan took over they shut them down. I remember something about NYC cleaning up Times Square and getting rid of all the porn theaters and sex shops. Off course the VCR killed a lot of that business also. I think the SF Bay Area still has "swinger" type clubs where people hook up in public but I believe most of them are gay clubs now. I don't see why they cannot have live sex performances if they allow this? My guess is its all supply and demand. With so much porn readily available who wants to watch live performances where you cannot jerk off while watching? |

| zambi Senior Member 1451 Posts 3/10 | Here's a recent article mentioning Rudy's war against sex shops in NYC. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/porn-king-richard-basciano-survived-rudy-giuliani-plans-risk-article-1.319185 The Mitchell Brothers almost went bankrupt fighting these cases in court when SF went after their clubs. | CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | The cops and fire department would come by just to see what was going on, and this tended to turn down the thermostat on the whole scene. Presumably these nuisance enforcements didn't directly impact the scheduled live sex shows, but they certainly affected the mood. |

| CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | In many US locales (including New York and San Francisco), it was either legal (or tolerated) in the 70s, and then during the 80s (the era of Reagan, the Meese Commission, the Tracy Lords incident, etc.) there was a shift in much of the US. If it legal anywhere in the US today, I don't know about it. Technology no doubt plays a role in this as well. With the rise of VCRs, people who wanted to watch people have sex (or even just look at naked people) had the opportunity to do so at home. Strip clubs shifted more towards satisfying the desire for physical contact, and you saw lapdancing emerge as a common form of live entertainment. Back in the 70s lapdances were rare. The one place I know of that offered them often stepped over the line, and was functioning as a brothel. |

| CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | There was one couple that used to perform both at Show World and at the smaller places that the Show World people ran. She was blonde and a bit chubby, and he had brown hair and average build. He used to leer at the audience, and sometimes they would invite members of the audience to use a dildo on the blonde. Do you remember them? One time I was in the front row-- a raincoater without a raincoat-- and the seat next to me was empty. The guy lifted his girl off the stage, and placed her in the empty seat, and fucked her for several minutes. I assumed that it wouldn't have been OK for me to touch her so I didn't, but they certainly didn't mind that I was touching myself. Since then I've wondered what would have happened if I tried to take it to the next level. Either way, they were close enough for me to touch them, and anyone watching the show couldn't help but see what I was up to. I'm not nostalgic in general, but I am deeply nostalgic for the old Times Square. Like all nostalgia, it's as much about the time and place as the fact that even if I could go back to that time and place, the person I have become is too concerned about my career and reputation to enjoy the freedom I once enjoyed. In another thread, I discussed some other memories, involving strippers. In particular Susaye London seemed to especially enjoy seeing what her admirers were up to. In an episode of the Rialto Report, they talk about the making of Captain Lust. It turns out that Susaye (who doesn't appear in the movie but was on set) was an even bigger sex freak than I realized. ![]() Susaye London never did a live sex show that I saw, but she showed more love for those who showed their love to her. | zambi Senior Member 1451 Posts 3/10 | I remember seeing this back in college during the late 1980s. It was intended to be an anti-porn film produced by the 19080s feminist movement. But ironically classic porn era fans loved it because it has interviews with couple stars from that era like Marc Stevens and Suze Randall. I think there is a shot of Ron Jeremy posing for Suze also? They interview Suze while she is shooting stills for Hustler magazine. Later they show Suze coating a girl's pussy with oil coated q-tip before she photographs her. At the 25:40 mark in this movie they visit live sex show on 42nd St in NYC and interview an interracial couple (black man, white woman) who perform live sex shows. They actually show the couple having sex on stage while audience watches. The funny part is when the girl talks about how white guys love to watch her get fucked by a black guy. At 37:50 mark you see a peep show of three women having live sex. If you ignore the feminist propaganda bullshit its actually worth watching to see what it was like back in the 70s. You can see how sleazy these places were and why they became obsolete when home video porn biz took off. Nowadays you have live webcams. It's funny to see how this part of sex industry has evolved. | CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | At the smaller club where the story I just told took place, the management posted cameras so the staff could keep an eye on the goings-on. I think I mentioned in another thread about a stripper fucking me while the rest of the audience watched. I didn't mention that before doing so, she guided me to a corner where the camera wouldn't see what we were up to. At Show World, they put up a sign saying, "No unzipping your pants in the front row." I found this a little incongruous, as they were clearly implying that it was OK in the second row. The crackdown was gradual. I left New York in the late 80s, and when I returned, the VCR was in its full glory, and my fear of being exposed to the world beyond Times Square had reached the point where I all but stopped going, so I didn't see how the process played out. I also feel a need to state the obvious. In an earlier post, I mentioned Reagan, the Meese Commission, the Traci Lords affair, and the VCR as all contributing to the shift. Fear of AIDS was a a big part of it as well. |
| oldguy Senior Member 1270 Posts 3/06 | And I still maintain that porn producers are missing the boat by not allowing customers to watch their filming and also joining in the process of pure screwing and masturbation and such. It would be a great way for producers to supplement their income I would think. Liability by clients could certainly be waived for the right dollar figure. C'mon producers, help us out on this one! |
| zambi Senior Member 1451 Posts 3/10 | Kink.com shoots live sex events. They have a series called "Public Disgrace" and a couple others I don't remember. Early "Public Disgrace" episodes had Steve Holmes taking euro girls out on the public streets walking them around nude and fucking them in places like under a bridge or a subway. Later episodes I think shot in SF area take pornstars to bars and have them fuck in front of the patrons. Sometimes they setup a display in some location with a BDSM audience watching. Not the same thing as the old live sex shows on stage at strip clubs. |

| CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | ![]() It catered to both the hetero and gay crowd, and therefore allowed single men in (which explains why I went there but never went to Belle du Jour). As a result, a lot of the straight action involved lots of guys and one girl, or a couple with a bunch of guys standing around jerking off. The gay action was normally restricted to one room, but there were also a few tranies who would go back and forth between the gay room and the rest of the club. The main room had a lot of contraptions, and audiences would sometimes gather to watch the goings on. Groping and jerking off were commonplace, handjobs were frequent, oral sex was rare, and the one time I saw penetrative sex, I had the strong feeling they were violating club rules. (They were hidden in a corner of the club, and there were a lot of guys watching, so any club personnel would not have seen what was happening.) I remember watching a threesome engage in S&M play in the main room; two female doms had a guy strapped down on some sort of wooden plank so he couldn't move. He we hard as a rock, and they were teasing him by stroking his hardon with a feather, and doing other things that seemed more painful. (After watching the show, I tried pouring hot wax on myself at home-- not my cup of tea.) I didn't watch long enough to see if the guy came, but I would be very surprised if he didn't. I was more drawn to the non-penetrative gangbangs. Like I said, I only went a couple of times, but these seemed to mainly involve groping, with the girl's boyfriend maybe eating her out. One time, guys were able to switch off, and I licked the girl's pussy for a few minutes, but this was the only time I got beyond second base. Another time, I (along with four or five other guys) was groping a girl while her guy was licking her pussy. I told her how much I liked her tits, and she invited me to cum on them, which I did. |
| oldguy Senior Member 1270 Posts 3/06 | Does anyone know of any other terrific gatherings like this, either in public or private? Sure would like to see films of this super stuff also. And some producers of today simply must get moving on recording these sorts of wonderful proceedings that I am sure still exist today. I would think that some of this stuff is available to the general public. Or certainly should be. And what a great vacation it would be to participate in this type action: sign me up! |

| zambi Senior Member 1451 Posts 3/10 | 1980's Live-Sex show performers in Times Square Somebody posted earlier about http://www.therialtoreport.com. They have some great podcast interviews with long lost classic era pornstars they tracked down like George Payne. He talks about the live sex shows he used to do with Annie Sprinkle. He says they would release a movie and then to live sex shows to mimick some of the scenes. He and Annie did BDSM scenes for those infamous Avon movies he shot. |
| CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | If you notice at the 15 second mark, you get a brief glimpse of boob. In the 70s and 80s, there was a slight loosening up on broadcast TV, and they would occasionally show body parts that would be censored now. This was rarely done gratuitously, but I remember one TV medical drama about a young woman with breast cancer. The whole thing turned out to be a long set up for the 3-second "reveal" that reconstructive surgery after a mastectomy could restore a woman to her former beauty. (She literally opened up her gown to show her boobs to the other cast members.) I would note that it was very rare, but I was a horny teenage boy at the time, so I remember those few incidents I saw. | CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | Although I enjoyed myself, and especially enjoyed jerking off during live sex shows, I don't think it's any less twisted than jerking off at home while looking at a computer. |

| CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | ![]() They discussed her relationship with Jamie Gillis. It seems they met at Show World. She didn't discuss the live sex shows in the interview, but she has written a book which is slated for release around Thanksgiving. I imagine it will be discussed in the book. Unfortunately, by the time I moved to New York, Serena was basically retired from porn, and certainly wasn't doing live sex shows in New York. But I would have loved to see them perform. |

| CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | Before the VCR, most porn fans would jerk off in dark seedy theaters. This may have created an atmosphere where it didn't seem that outrageous to jerk off to a live show. Now that people have the option of watching people have sex in the privacy of their own homes, the appeal of live shows is reduced. Nowadays, most strip clubs are not about voyeurism, but about lap dances and other forms of physical contact. The girls earn tips during their shows, but it is mainly a way for them to advertise their lap dances. |
