^Thanks for the tip.
I'm going to have to keep an eye on that site for future updates.
I found this youtube video that was linked there fascinating, as the Times Square area has changed so much.

I wish that I could have seen it back in the day...totally different.
(...it's all family friendly now on 42nd St., though there are still adult stores on 8th Ave. -- one over the from Times Square...)

I just listened to the Jennifer Wells interview. She was before my time, and I never saw one of her films, but she had a fascinating story to tell.

Just got through all three episodes. I really like this podcast. The manner of hosting (minimal, warm, respectful, very knowledgeable) is excellent, in my opinion. The Jennifer Welles episode in particular was just wonderful, but I also loved the George Payne episode. I do wish they had asked Amero about his hardcore work, but that's just me being selfish. :)

I LOVE this show - finally an intelligent approach to golden age porn, and a show that actually puts the original people center stage.
I can't wait to hear it each week.

Not sure what's next, but they tweeted that upcoming shows include Jeanne Silver (awesome) and Carter Stevens (awesome). Can't wait! The most recent episode with Barbara Nitke was fascinating, imo.

You're right! I just saw the new podcast episode pop up in my queue - and it features Carter Stevens.
Looking forward to this one!

This series is a dream come true, so valuable for the historical perspective from these performers, particularly George Payne's as the Avon is so obscured by rumours and legends.

I've just listened to the Long Jean Silver show which may be the best one yet - fascinating.
Quite how they manage to produce a new show every Sunday - with such great guests is amazing.
Blacksix is right - these shows are providing an oral history that has not been told before. Long may it continue...

Wow - I'm listening to the new Rialto podcast about The Naughty Victorians and its full of interesting facts.
Who knew that Marc Stevens was in it? Or that the director never saw a cent despite it being all his own money? Or that Susan Sloan was in a musical act with Beerbohn Tree?
Good 'guest presenter' too.
Keep them coming!

I've listened to the Naughty Victorians and Long Jean Silver episodes and this is easily the best podcast on xxx, some of the best interviews with xxx, that I've heard. Not sure who the host is but he knows his stuff and is a very good interviewer, letting his guests talk more than himself and not clogging up with the podcast with rambling 'funny' talk that drags down so many podcasts.

Ashley is also known as Benson Hurst, the writer of Distribpix liner notes booklets and the moderator on the Metzger commentary tracks.

The Hurst episode is great, an actor I've seen in many films but knew so little about.

Listened to it a few hours ago. Yet another excellent interview.
I wouldn't describe this one as caustic. But definitely honest, definitely poignant, and at points bitter.

Listened to it, and it was fantastic. Fascinating stuff, some great candid stories told with clarity, warmth, and thoughtfulness. Some healthy doses of sad, also.

I knew this was a great podcast, but the most recent episode proves it.
I've never watched a gay porn, and knew next to nothing about the history of gay porn before listening to the podcast. Just now, I went to TLAGay, thinking I might be able to purchase Boys in the Sand, or Bible! (if I felt squeamish). It seems that neither are in print.
Did he mention who owns the rights to his work? If he does, it might make sense to re-master them in advance of the documentary's release. If a straight guy– who has never watched gay porn in 30+ years of watching porn– is shopping for gay porn it means either:
1) I'm closeted, or
2) There is a huge market for his stuff.
For ebook fans, his book is available at TLAGay, while Amazon only has print editions.

TLA has no rights to them anymore. But they will soon be restored and issued in beautiful, extras filled, editions.

I hate to say this, but the Barbara Broadcast episode was not my favorite.
It was clearly tied to the release of the new Blu-Ray edition, and the promotional aspect was excessive. That said, the Michael Gaunt segment was interesting.

It would be great if the BFI released some Wakefield Poole films the way they recently released Peter De Rome's film shorts.

John Lyons: What else do you know about the planned re-issue? For instance, do you know who's doing it?
^
Blacksix: Who is BFI? Do they release gay classics or something?

^ BFI is the British Film Institute, and that would thus be a big fat no to the second question. Lol.

This week, Susan McBain! Exciting stuff. As much as I love the ones featuring well-known and much-heard-from stars, I *love* hearing from those who have had less press.

^Totally agree! As great as it is hearing from Georgina Spelvin and Gloria Leonard, I've always wondered happened to the people who... just seemed to disappear.
I loved the Jennifer Welles episode for example; and it's great that they managed to get Susan McBain to talk as she sounds painfully shy.

Ep. 18: Bob Chinn.
RR-john-and-bob.jpg
For me, this is perhaps the most satisfying and fulfilling episode so far. It's at least in the top 3. Really fantastic stuff, and a goldmine of anecdotal information. I have long admired Chinn's work, and it's a treat to listen to him discuss his life, his experiences in the adult industry, and his approach to filmmaking. Kudos to Ash and Jill for such an excellent interview.
