I am a long time DVD rental person. I've been with Netflix for some time and all the major adult DVD rental companies. If you turn around a DVD within a day or two after receiving it, the cost is usually no more than $2 per title. Figure in postage costs both ways and you are literally spending around $1 per rental on an unlimited subscription plan. So, in effect you are paying $1 for a 120 minutes title. I see that Adult DVD rental companies and porn websites are charging outrageous fees to simply stream content. SugarDVD 11 minutes costs $2.65 69 minutes costs $9.95 BushDVD 10 minutes costs $2.95 50 minutes costs $6.95 Porn Pay Per View 10 minutes costs $3.95 I understand you are getting content instantly, without any wait time when you stream content but you can't even save this content when paying per minute, it is not even a download where you have the material to keep. I don't know what is exactly involved when streaming is offered, but the adult content that you stream is not costing any of these companies or websites any high overhead costs, no postage costs like shipping a DVD through the postal system, so why such high rates? I really don't see why companies don't offer the streaming at no more than a dollar per title. After all, you only get to view it once, it isn't even a DVD that you can play over again and return to a scene. It seems like the adult industry is in cahoots to rip off the public by charging so much for such a short viewing time. Even Netflix offers streaming content so cheaply it makes me think this is all a big scam going on.
I never stream, let me rephrase that, I never stream and pay per minute. If I want to watch a scene I can go to ADT's Vod facility and stream the whole movie for 48 hours for as little as $2.06, the choice at this price is extensive. If you register you get 15 minutes absolutely free on the pay per minute system this thread is referring to. I'm also a member of Evil Angel where streaming of any movie for a month is $31.61. For this I can watch any scene released many in high definition and download also and convert to DVD unlimited, a serious bargain in comparison to the pay per minute options. Brazzers which I have in the past subscribed to stream for as little as $15.84 for seven days and you get access to all of their scenes stream only a bargain in my book but in comparison to Evil Angel not even close. If you want more 'bang for your buck' I would look for the monthly deals that have streaming and downloading options and not the pay per minute options. Pay for this via a pre-paid debit card that doesn't allow an overdraft so you're never charged even if you forget to cancel at the end of the month and enjoy, there are some great deals to be had out there. All the prices mentioned I have converted from the British pound so prices may well be less than what I have quoted.
I believe the streaming is a rip off, seen the prices, can't do it. I joined "VideoBox", they charge $15.00 a month a little less if u go to "Rabbitreviews" and order thru there. They do not have the main titles hitting the street ,but i have used it for two days u can download (i have run into a problem with that) does not seem to work for me, not tech savy. But they have some good stuff, other stuff they offer from "Reality KIngs' for an additional $15.00 a month. Not sure if i will add that on. But, YES, the streaming i say away from. Just to expensive, where there is demand i guess they are getting buyers or they would have shut down by now. Would like input from others. Thanks to all for sharing your thoughts. Seems I am not the only one who thinks this streaming bullshit is nonsense. If they would offer a reasonable price it would have some value but the cost they charge makes it a waste. Netflix offers unlimited streaming for about $8 per month. I know it is not adult content but if they can do that so can everyone else at a reasonable charge without ripping us off. I suppose I would do a lot of streaming if money is not an issue and I do not mind pissing my money down the drain. Maybe that is what these companies are targeting, the very wealthy. They can stream for hours at a time and not care about the cost. Streaming adult content is synonymous with Empty my Pockets, I do not care about the cost.
^I agree that sites like Hot Movies, AEBN and a slew of others tend to charge way too much for their movies and as more studios offer people access to their library for a decent price then they will have to drop their prices or go out of business. That said. I'd recommend you avoid using Netflix for your example because they are in deep financial trouble because they probably didn't charge enough for their service.
I might well be mistaken on this, and encourage correction, but my impression from a few newspaper articles is that they tanked after they raised prices (and tried to separate streaming vs dvd usage), causing them to lose hundreds of thousands of customers. At least, that is when their stock prices plummeted. Am I drawing an erroneous conclusion from that?
^You are correct that some of their recent business decisions caused them to lose a huge amount of members but I still think that those changes were so that they could stay in business long term. Since they have pretty much gone back to their old business plan then I won't be surpsied when they go out of business. Do you really think that it's possible to make money when you only charge 8$ a month for unlimited streaming of TV shows and movies? Then you have to add that members want you to keep adding new shows and movies to your library?

Yes and No. Yes, they took a hit when they raised prices for some. In my case they lowered the price when they separated DVD rentals from streaming because at the time I streamed nothing. My monthly bill dropped when they did this. Others got annoyed to see their rates go up because they had been renting DVDs and streaming at the same time and did not like their rates going up. The problem goes back to what I mentioned on another thread, it is all about licenses that have to be renewed so content is being dropped from time to time. If anyone knows of a better service than Netflix please let me know. Here's a link from a few days ago about Netflix which touches on the licensing nonsense. For NetFlix, Everything Changes....
They charge what they can get away with. I'm guessing this business model works well for them based of the number of sites that offer "pay per minute" we've started doing this in the last few years. And remember until recently porn has always been overpriced. For people who walk into an adult retail shop and see some adult DVDs priced at 60 bucks per movie or people who go to porn pay booths paying 2.65 for 10 minutes might seem like a bargain. The people who do the "pay per minute" thing aren't like the people on this site who are into watching porn. They just want something to do their business and quick gradification and move on.Most probably don't want to keep it. They might be in a situation were they don't want porn lingering after they're done.I'm sure they have different costs to deal with. They have servers, equipment, staff, licensing fees, webmasters and such to make sure things run smoothly.They're in the business to make money, why drop prices that low when they've seen that some people are willing to pay much more? Besides, it's probably not profitable to charge so little. You can't compare a porn studio or site to Hollywood in terms of prices. You can get a Hollywod tv series with hours and hours on content in Blu-ray for about the same as a typical 2 and a half hour EVIL ANGEL movie if you ordered it from their site. Hollywood moves much more units and can mass produce stuff far cheaper. Pay Per Minute migt actually be the cheaper way to go for some people but if yo aren't that type of porn viewer in can end up being the most expensive. It would never cross my mind to do PPM because I'm not that type of viewer.
Last I heard NETFLIX was doing okay and their numbers are climbing. People got angry when they raised their prices and some left but that was mostly people on DVD rental side. The people who mostly stream are actually paying less under the new plan. I'm betteing that many of the people who cancelled over the price increase probably rejoined after a bit. NETFLIX raised prices but even at the higher price it's still a great deal compared with some of the alternatives.
Very good point. Most of the DVDs I have, I bought for one or two scenes and I couldn't care less about the others. There are some movies where most of the scenes are good or I'm interested in seeing most of the girls but far more often than not I'm just interested in one or two scenes.

I agree. The quality might be improving, but it is nonetheless too expensive and contributes to the demise of the adult industry. It was a huge mistake for a lot of DVD distributors to hook up with streaming companies to give their customers a streaming option because the entry costs to do it in-house, at the time, was way too expensive. They conditioned their customers to the instant gratification and customers gradually moved away from physical media. Now the higher priced streaming companies are losing big time to porn piracy. For those that justify paying for streaming because they only wanted a select scene or two, most of that physical media audience now fuels the advertising revenue of porn pirates in turning their backs on the rest of us, while getting off for free in their basement or restroom. DVD is still the better buy for porn enthusiasts. Not only has pricing gone down since streaming, but most stores have significantly lowered their free shipping significantly, so you are mainly paying for the movies. DVDs are still portable and discreet, and I can write on this forum just as my DVD is playing on tv. DVD may also be the only option if you want to see classic content. I am glad to hear that companies that did shutter a few years ago are now coming back on the scene on the east and west coasts. Many in the industry have passed the torches of their businesses down to their successors, now adult children, or are in transition of doing so. I could never imagine going to a bachelor party and all the guys having to gather around a guy's cell phone or tablet to enjoy watching the traditional adult movie. What also happens to trading movies with your friends if your are paying per scene... do you swap electronic files? I still miss the smell of a VHS box cover and the black plastic trays that held the videos. You had to press up from the bottom of the tray to pop out the video. DVD decimated VHS and outlasted Blu-ray and HD-DVD combined. Support the industry and your local businesses that help prop up the industry by buying DVD!
It isn't so cut and dry. There are fewer and fewer pornshops moving porn in the way they used to. The companies have had to keep marking their product down in order to try and move more units. If streaming can help bring in additional revenue there's nothing wrong with consumers and distributors having that option. DVDs, Pay Per View, renting, streaming, etc., can all co-exist. Why would a company limit their resources? Some people perfer DVDs, some prefer going to a booth in a sex shop, some prefer to stream. Make the option availabe for people with difference preferences.It's silly to not take advantage of "instant gratification" when it exists and makes life easier. If you take a survey of people who would like a movie "now" instead of having to wait a few days how many do you think are going to perfer to wait? How many people here have passed on buying a DVD because they didn't want to pay for a whole DVD or DVD set just to see one or two scenes? I'm betting everyone has. The people who simply refuse to pay for movies always will and there's not much you can do to make them change their ways. In the meantime it only makes sense to offer different options to the ones who are willing to pay for movies.That's great! If you want to buy DVDs by all means knock yourself out. No one is trying to stop you. If you feel streaming companies charge to much don't give them your money.DVDs also take up space and can be embarrassing when someone stumbles across them. They can be scratched or damaged. I buy lots of DVDs but I'm glad I have an alternative of not having them pile up. I like not having to hide them and take the time to dig one out to watch a scene. This basically sums it all up for me. The other feedback confirms that many do not like the streaming. I can say if there is a market out there, a niche for it, then it will be offered. I could see myself streaming a lot of adult content if money is not an issue to me. There are people out there who routinely think nothing of throwing down a few thousand dollars a night just to party or entertain themselves in some way. I could be wrong, but I think the PAID streaming market of adult content will dry up unless the prices are lowered drastically from what they are currently offered.
What's the real rationale behind streaming, from a sellers viewpoint? Is it offering instant gratification? Or is it controlling/restricting the content so nobody can be able to download it? It has already been discussed on other threads some websites offering only streaming video; no DVD, no downloads, just streaming, take it or leave it.
And if you do download streaming content, the quality is usually bad compared to a DVD video. You young guys don't know how lucky you are. Back in my day in the 70's blank VHS tapes were $35 and that was real money.

You can't do anything with the video after two days, it is gone. To own a video from their site often costs more than purchasing a new DVD. The same is true of Netflix. Purchasing a download is approximately the same price as purchasing a DVD, not more, and that's not including shipping charges.
I will probably eventually buy some streaming. I might wait until Netflix gets some competition. Until then, I can watch library dvds, which I pay for with property taxes.

Screen shots are free, and has saved me $1000s. Hotmovies is a bargain. When I used to buy DVDs, mostly I would watch once or twice then toss.
Part of it may have to do with distribution. If I remember correctly, Netflix licenses from a few distributors, which makes it easier to pay, probably a lump sum, for the titles. With adult titles you are talking all sorts of distributors that have to get paid back for their product. Also with Netflix you are looking at usually older titles, titles that usually have finished their theatrical run and sometimes are a month after original DVD release.
People made a big stink about NETFLIX months ago when they raised their prices for renting DVDs but the streaming is still a heck of a bargain. If you don't worry about new releases there's tons of great tv series, documentaries, and Anime there besides tons of movies that you might've passed up the first time around.
Porn and DVDs are dead. Plan out simple. DVDs in mainstream will be around for along time. In porn, it is dead. Just a slow death and wish it was quicker.
I'm not sure why a person would pay so much per minute when much better and less expensive options are usually right there on the same page. Most of the sites I see give you different options to choose from. You can usually rent the entire movie for a day or week or own it starting at about 4 bucks to rent to about 20 bucks to download/own. That's about on par with doing the same with a DVD. Other sites offer you options to stream a companies catalogue of movies for a monthly fee and/or purchase one movie or scene. Some people get all caught up in "But I don't own it" but in reality renting is a big part of the porn business and not everyone wants to keep everything. There are various sites out there with various deals and viewing, renting, owning options and some of them seem reasonable. Why focus on the pay per view aspect when it clearly doesn't offer what you want?

I use an air card and laptop instead of a land line or traditional network connection. Is there a certain site that you might recommend for my type of connection, if I considered streaming adult?
Actually I think it's the other way around. People will always want a physical copy in porn, whereas blu-ray is killing mainstream dvds by forcing you to choose or go without any extras.
I must admit I don't. I'd much rather have my porn collection discreetely stored on a hard drive than have a big stash of DVDs somewhere in my house. Yes streaming is expensive, and as some others have said I assume this is a business decision that works. If enough people are willing to pay the fees then companies will keep doing so. For me, streaming is too low quality. What I want is websites that allow me to download (not stream) HD content. The only DVDs I buy now are older ones not available for download. I wish more websites did as 21sextury.com do, and allow users to pay to download individual scenes without having to pay for a long term subscription.
I have no clue. I would image if an air card (whatever that is) works like a normal connection and is fast enough it should work. You can try streaming a movie from somewhere to see if it works. IMDB has some free streaming movies if you want to test it. Whether streaming sites have issues with air cards I don't really know. You'd have to check them out to see.
Mike got deactivated quick. Anyway, in case Mike is reading: If you have a "flaky" less-than-pristine connection, streaming is not for you. You should focus on sites which allow you to download. You just have to forgo instant gratification, in exchange for having the ability to watch a stable video and re-watch/rewind/fast-forward/etc.
^I'll second that because a less than prisine connection for streaming content is not recommend. I have high speed internet and I still find that some sites still offer crappy streaming on many of their videos.
