I took a look at the shipping rates for Laser's Edge and found that Laser's Edge overcharges Canada and Mexico by US$2 for DHL Express shipping. Given that both Canada and Mexico is north and south of the border, I would expect them to have the cheapest shipping among other countries. To my surprise, it is not. It is cheaper to ship to Europe and Asia Pacific than Canada/Mexico. Is there a specific reason for the higher fees? This is followed by the European countries (Zone C) where the rates for Zone C is higher than Zone A/B. The Asian countries under H1 and H2 has rates higher than all other zones. It would appear that Laser's Edge does overcharges the Canadians and Mexicans. On the other hand, the British are enjoyed a big discount from Laser's Edge, not only UK has lower rates than other European nations, it is lower than Canada/Mexico. [Link] |

When shipping to Canada, the shipper pays the customs charges. When shipping to Europe it appears thatthe receiver pays the customs charges. I know that it is cheaper for my company to maintian a warehouse in Canada for shipping Canadian orders (via Canadian Post) than it is for us to ship into Canada from our US warehouse (in Minnesota). I've been told that, in our case, this is a customs issue. [Link] |

I've ordered from the US and I need to pay the customs charges before they can release the package. So it is the same as Europe where the receiver pays the customs charges. That's what I thought about Barnes & Nobles. Their packages are all shipped from Canada via Canada Post. By the way, is your company in the adult DVD business and if so, what is the url? Having said all this, perhaps Laser's Edge would be kind to their northern neighbours by not overcharging them. [Link] |

DHL analized where we did most of our business a few years ago when we were at a crossroads between UPS & DHL as express carriers. They determined through past shipments thru both them as well as UPS and came up with where most of our packages were shipped. Then they "heavily" discounted our "busiest" countries that they had in LANE 1 in their rates lists. Unfortunately at the time we did very little business with Canada, since most of our business is Mainstream movies and these are readily available in most Canadian stores. Therefore the rates they offered for Canada were not as heavily discounted since they consider Canada and Mexico seperate, individual shipping "Lanes". However they are still cheap in comparison to most other stores as well as DHL's "book rates". I hope this explains the reasoning behind the higher rates.
