That's all 'Asian'. Wasn't the topic about American porn? If reality can be so diverse in Asia itself, no doubt the cultural factor is at least as complex in the States.

It was very interesting to read all the different opinions regarding this issue and I also asked myself this question many times because I'm Chinese.
To me, there are multiple reasons:
1. The cultaral background has a very big influence. Asian families/parents always want their kids (especially sons) to strive for jobs which are socially highly acknowledged (e.g. doctor, lawyer, business man). Due to this "social commitment", maybe Asian men are more hesitated to start a career in the porn business.
2. It is a natural, biological fact that Asian men have IN AVERAGE a smaller penis size than e.g. Black men. One has to accept this fact ! If size really matters for porn movies, then it should be no problem to work with Asian men who have an "appropiate" penis size (there should be enough well hung Asian men) !
3. Either there is no demand for Asian porn actors or this demand is too small. Some people are indifferent which ethnic origin the actor has (because they just want to see big dick fucking the girl), some just don't want to see Asian men fucking e.g. a white girl ! This doesn't necessarily mean that these people are racists, it's just their personal preference (I personally only like to see Caucasian porn actors (no Asian, Black, etc.) because it turns me on/it's my personal preference "although" I'm Asian ! Well this is interesting. I thought I would do a little search on the topic of asian porn stars, and I found this site - except it is a gay asian site. It seems there are hundreds of gay asian videos available here if you go through the columns on the left hand side. A heterosexual man who can live a normal life without that social stigma has much more to lose.
I think this is difficult to assess without actually producing and marketing a Asian-male oriented [no pun intended] line.
BTW, maybe a feature line with an Asian theme would be more suitable than a gonzo line? It's a cliche of course, but a combination of the martial arts theme and porn might be a good start, as it would at least make the Asian lead 'cool' to many viewers (I'm not saying Asian guys can't be cool otherwise, I'm just trying to imagine what an audience might like).
Talking about which side has more to lose is just not convicing. Porn is porn. Plus, it still doesn't explain the zero existence of Asian men in hetero-porn.
Not completely zero, but I think that's been covered above. Limiting the scope to US and Euro porn (because obviously there is all-Asian porn, which pretty much never features any non-Asians), we have at least the West Coast Gangbangs; one of Rocco's 'Sandy' movies has Sandy with two Asian guys - unfortunately they are stereotype-reinforcing specimens in terms of dick size; Asian guys sometimes participate on the COHF website (which makes an effort to be as racially inclusive as possible), and more. But I agree, they are underrepresented.
If my argument doesn't convince you, you're of course completely free to come up with a better explanation.
As I see it, there are basically three sides to the issue:
- either the supply of Asian male performers is insufficient (possible reasons: lack of interest in sex (unlikely), insufficient self-confidence (possibly reinforced by stereotypes), social pressures against pursuing a porn career); - or the industry refuses to employ them (possible reasons: racism (possible, but unlikely as a major reason IMO; Chico Wang discriminating against Asians?), practical matters such as dick size (real or imagined); - or the consumers don't generate a sufficient demand for it to be profitable. This is difficult to assess without anybody actually putting a product on the market and seeing how the consumer reacts, as I have argued above.
Of the above possibilities, the social stigma hypothesis seems to me to be among the more plausible ones. But hey, be my guest and prove me wrong.
