The variance in prices is probably for the same reason prices differ on the high street . The more obvious places can get away with charging more because they know many people are simply unaware of the bargain store operating around the corner . This is where ADT comes riding to the rescue ! The more people who know about this place , the more the prices will fall into line - or at least that's my belief .

Here are a couple of main reasons why this happens, first is competition, if you don't have any you can charge anything you like, people are forced to buy it at that price, the price differences you see other wise has to do with volume purchases, when i buy 5000 movies from a studio and you as a store buy 300, who's going to get the better price? it's obvious. Studios want volume!

At moviesbymail.com we get allot of our competition complaining to the studios that our prices are too low and not to sell to us or make us change the prices, we do so much volume that the studio cant lose us as a customer, and to my competition, too bad, get out of the way, i only care about my customers and could care less what the other companies want.

It would be bad business for the studios to undercut the retailers - the poeple who they sell their products to ....

I've seen gay porn titles with a MSRP of $60 (for sale direct from the studio) being sold for everything from $80 all the way down to $35 - that is one hell of a difference! And I've seen that degree of variation in both B&M and online venues. (And then there is Falcon with MSRPs of $80 and $90 - but we won't go there....)

I've discovered that with the very careful application of ADT's price search engine, shopping online sales, utilizing coupons to my best advantage, and taking advantage of the ADT KickBack program, I can cut sticker-priced titles at $60 down to an average expenditure of $33, including whatever shipping costs may be applicable; but, it takes a lot of time & work to secure the best deals.

Once upon a time I varied the price of 1 particular DVD title randomly from a low of $30 to a high of $60. It didn't make a darn bit of difference. I had the same sales
volume at each price point. I didn't sell more at the lower prices than the higher. I'm hard pressed to explain it.

While I hear/read people talk about prices, I see very
little price sensitivity in people's actual buying patterns.
