Why You Should Question the Kind of Porn You Watch

Author and educator Tati Español explains why most mainstream porn falls so far short of representing the kind of sex people actually have.

Most mainstream horrors that I watch fall short of the kind of murders people commit as well.

I don't know that I would call that article interesting so much as are you kidding. I mean when the author mentions in the first paragraph that humans were painting pornographic images on cave walls 37,000 years ago then whatever comes after that has to be taken with a truck load of salt. I'm in my 50's and the first naked of women I saw were in national Geographic magazine and let me tell you that you needed one heck of an imagination to get sexually stimulated enough to masturbate to that. Even a lot of the early porn of the 70's and 80's was quite mild to what came after and is nearly impossible to compare to what gets done these days.

Maybe Flash can reply but I suspect that he wrote what he did because he thinks that what the author wrote is in many ways idiotic because it's pretty foolish to thinks that porn sex is real sex. In the same way that it's foolish to think that the kind of horror/murders depicted in movies is what happens in real life.

Article says - Women in porn should be all sizes and shapes and body types.

My response - Already are. 5 feet or less in height actresses have found great success in the industry. How many 5 feet tall mainstream actresses are there?

Article says and I quote - "The person with a vagina is not seen as a desiring subject, but as an object to be pulled out of, pumped, drilled and hurt. We need to see people with a vagina being allowed to actually express their own sexuality, using their own methods."

My response - Already do. Women on sets are not only allowed but encouraged to masturbate for many productions. Women sufficiently warm up and then they have hardcore sex.

Additionally, do not forget that women are on porn set to work. This is what they are getting paid for and this straight to work is just keeping it professional. Are women in general entertainment paid to do maintain their health / to express themselves or paid for acting / expressing the vision of director?

Make up your mind if you are advocating for women or people with vaginas? If both are same why reduce women to their sex organ while maintaining a facade of feminist advocacy? If both are not same why use women as shield ?

Article says You don't see the use of a condom, either, and that is another danger because mainstream porn is, regrettably, many people's school.

This reads as We don't have adequate sex education so porn industry you take the responsibility. Not their problem. Should stunt work in movies be reduced at the expense of audience so people are not hurt trying to recreate it?

Notice the word 'regrettably' - she has a condescending view of porn. And there is pretense of I'm sympathetic and I need you to do to favour for me.

Article says What you are shown is how to have sex in a way which only feeds male fantasies.

My response Precisely why female pornstars are exponentially more popular and better paid than male 'talent'. In other words, the audience likes a female presented and male is just a tool to service her.

Article says Feminist porn, post-porn and ethical porn are different variations of porn that aim to modify everything that porn has taught us.

[My response Modify everything? What happened to diversity in porn?

I won't respond to rest of the article but I think this person is torn between whether porn should be more professional or more fun, more diverse or less so, be for women or for people with vaginas. And when she does make her mind she'll find that there are already productions dedicated to that, and audience pays for that not because they are being charitable but because they love watching these women on screen.

That is the important part. You need to give kids proper sex education and porn is not sex education, it's fiction.

He is saying that porn is a form of entertainment. It is a fantasy product, just like a horror movie, an action movie, or a romcom. Horror movies do not represent realistic murder, action movies do not represent realistic car chases, and romcoms do not represent realistic relationships. So, why do we make this demand of porn?

My own personal opinion: because we refuse to talk openly about porn as a form of entertainment, so we grow up porn illiterate. Combined with refusing to talk about sex, porn shoulders the responsibility and blame for our squeamishness.

He means that the exact same argument was being made in the 1970s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and now here we are again. It's tired and lacking in nuance.

The OP and the person interviewed in the article mean well. I'm sure we all have our grievances with porn and the boring repetition of the same old shit. I myself agree with the complaint that women tend not to be shown as subjects. The sex is routine and while women are celebrated for "pushing their boundaries" as some kind of feminist liberation, men don't seem to feel the same liberation when pushing theirs. It's all pretty stale and I get sick of watching the jack hammering, glugging, etc. But, I don't find the arguments presented in the article very helpful as they tend to divide porn into "feminist/indie/ethical" and "mainstream" as if that's a neat divide and one is wholly good and the other wholly bad. Jiz Lee has remarked upon this, and they are an indie superstar. In addition, the people who write these things make pretty clear they have an extremely shallow understanding of porn. They can name check Deep Throat and Debbie Does Dallas, but have they watched Night Dreams? Have they even watched Deep Throat and Debbie Does Dallas? Can they name a single title from the 2000s? or even the last five years? Based on the articles they write, I doubt it, and that is frustrating. Everyone has an opinion on porn, and often no one seems to think it important to know anything about porn in order to establish that opinion.

Like I said, OP means well and seems understandably perplexed by the intensity of the reaction, but in short, we are sick of this shit.

Thanks for replying with a more clear answer and pointing out problems you had with the article.
I said I find the article "interesting", that doesn't mean I agree with everything it says.
I posted this to have bigger discussions, the major problem I have with the article is the clickbait headline but it's Vice. So it's aspected.
I agree with some of what you said but I think you take a couple of things out of context.

1. Article says "mainstream porn" doesn't show women of all sizes, shapes, and body types "
Mainstream doesn't really show women over 25 or plus size. Mainstream gears this type towards the fetish section (MILF, Mature, BWW, etc.)
2. The question in the article was "What would you like to see more of in mainstream porn?"
Again, the question is towards mainstream porn, in "mainstream porn" the shit you find on pornhub. You don't really see women masturbate, play with a toy, or the man enjoying foreplay.
Hell, men in mainstream porn don't eat pussy and if they do it's only for a brief second and then it's off to a 20 minute BJ scene and pound town anal sex for a half-hour.
Yes, women are there to work and get paid but just like the men, they at least should have one good orgasm. Sex scenes are better when women are having real orgasms, at least have guys eat the women out until they get off or use a toy so we can see a real one.
3. This one is really taken out of context.
Yes, We don't have adequate sex education in the world and it's not the porn industry problem
She states that mainstream porn and inadequate sex education is the problem. That porn can be an ally to sex education, you see this with porn educational videos or couples porn.
Again, she's not talking about porn in general but mainstream porn
4.?? She's not talking about pay grade or how popular women are over men.
She's saying mainstream porn is geared towards cis males, which it very much is.
If it's women-centric or gear towards women, it's called soft or "couples porn" and put outside mainstream.
5. Yes, but mainstream porn isn't very diverse

As I said, I don't agree with everything she says but I understand her points on changing the way we look at porn and changing the mainstream porn industry for the better.

You make a lot of great points and thanks for your insight in the discussion.
I never noticed but you're right about men never really being celebrated for pushing sexual boundaries in porn like women are nowadays.
Sean Michaels has worked with transgender women for a couple of years now and started doing bisexual scenes and nobody really talks about it.
He has most likely been bi this whole time. Or what about the crossover success of Dante Colle? Straight porn really doesn't talk about both these men being bisexual.

For me, what always gets lost in these conversations is the fact that porn doesn't have to represent making love. The porn I watch definitely leans toward loving respectful sex, what I would want in a relationship. I personally can't understand how some of the porn that is out there gets people off. But then, that's not my business, to each their own. I think it's a mistake to expect all porn to suit just our own tastes. These articles always seem to find a way to demonize porn by going after what might be viewed as the most deviant. And maybe there is something to explore about why people watch what they do. For me, porn is fantasy. Pick your own.

Yes, I did read the article. Pat362 and GGG nailed exactly what I was saying. Porn movies are entertainment, nothing more and nothing less. They aren't sex education and they shouldn't ever be sex education. I don't see articles coming down on Police Academy for unrealistic views of policing or Law & Order. I don't see articles coming down on Backdraft for unrealistic views of firefighting. Should we even discuss how many action movies where your average Joe or Jane goes up against a major crime family with no training and ends up winning?
As for what people choose to consume, there are options out there for just about anything. There are stepdad sleeping with his daughter, older man with legal-aged girlscout, etc movies on Lethal Hardcore and there are bisexual, queer, etc movies on PinkLabel.TV. Just like when you go to the cinema there are horror films where a deranged person hacks up 20 people and rom-coms where two awkwardly different people find love. Nothing listed falls within the bounds of education.
If you want sex education, that needs to be done through schools, not through the movies.
And as for your comment about mainstream porn being what you find on Pornhub, most of what you find there is what is called stolen porn. You are looking at what someone randomly picks to jerk off to for free, which for all you know is the first thing on their newest upload links. If you want to cite what mainstream porn is, go look at the bestseller lists at some stores, and evaluate that list over a 6 to 12 month period. Since that is what consumers are actually purchasing which shows thought behind the purchase.

It actually can't. Making love isn't usually in a room filled with cameras, lighting, people telling you what to do, while being in uncomfortable positions that look good to the viewer. Porn is to making love as The Real World is to the actual real world.

I basically agree with GGG and Pat362.
Again, the article and I aren't really arguing that porn should teach sex education.
Porn can be used as an (age-appropriate) tool because it basically is the first sexual activity we see growing up.
It's not porn job to teach sex but porn can be a little more "real" on how it shot porn. Lust and Crashpad do this and porn fans have been asking for more realism in scenes.
I'm not blaming porn for our poor sex education system or thinking porn should change solely for this reason alone. That blame goes towards religion, local governments, and parents

I think the person is asking for more realism in a scene.
Like kissing, foreplay, women having a real orgasm, playfulness in the scene.
I've seen scenes like this in stuff from Crashpad and LustCinema. Or what about Bellesa series Bellesahouse or amateur stuff by couples. If I shot porn with my wife and our friends, that's real.
I think the difference is how you shot it. Are you shooting it porn style or like a couple having sex at home?
Of course, we know porn isn't "real' and it's all made on a set but you can have a look and feel like the 2 people are having private sex.

What I'm saying is that there is porn that most people could look at and say to their significant other, "Hey, let's do that". Sex that you would have if you were making love to someone you love. Then there is porn that most people would say, WTF? So yeah, you might get off watching some guy piss in a girls open mouth, but most people don't or wouldn't want to do that to a person they actually care about. A lot of guys would love to have anal sex with their SO, but most don't want to gape them, make them cry, or hurt them at all. I know a lot of people who watch porn simply for a woman that their wife isn't. But I actually have never talked to anyone who wants to demean, belittle, or hurt their wife. If whatever is going on is mutual, that's fine. But the fact is, a lot of what is portrayed isn't. Doesn't mean there isn't a place for that kind of porn. I just find it interesting that even when people are told to each their own, the more fringe porn seems to be, the more defensive people who are into it get.

there´s always been the debate, whether porn is healthy to watch or not...

personally, as Dildoslime states above " there´s always porn to watch, for couples to try out ", and exercise in a fun way, maybe the filthy meeting at a bar, any of those fantasies can be played out, the milkman, postman knocking on the door. I love to role play, yes, this usually in a porn scene, however, just at home, my partner and I will play about, seduction.

I think porn is very healthy, of course, there are some niche, this cannot be stated or said to be healthy, but even then, as a fantasy, the viewer can enjoy getting off to what ever they do, and as long as it doesn´t harm anyone else, like most things in life, there´s nothing wrong with enjoying your kind of porn.

Personally, I enjoy reality or story porn, you can feel the warmth driving up from below ;) xxx

Huh? You make a movie about the civil war, it's obviously not real. But it certainly can portray what it was like, seem real to the viewer. People watching porn aren't thinking about what is going on behind the scenes. I see a pretty girl having sex, I'm not thinking about what's real, I'm thinking about if that was me with her. That's why POV and virtual porn came to be.

Ever notice how when you watch something on a screen, you stop seeing everything but the screen. You don't see the frame around it, the audio equipment below it, etc. That's because we immerse ourselves into that world. Same with watching black and white. Before long, you forget it's not color. When we watch something on screen, what we see becomes our reality in that moment. So if I see a sex scene that is not what I would do to that person, I feel that discomfort for the person that it's being done to. If I see something agreeable, I can put myself there. I know many people, men and women, who have cried over emotional scenes in non adult animated movies. Obviously not real, but it is to us at that moment.

^No it can't because movies are the producer and directors idea of what it was like. I would argue that documentaries come the closest to what something is/was like but a documentary is not a movie and even then the producer and directors view of the event can affect what is shown on screen. I will add that even if a documentary gets it completely right then it's still a 2 dimensional view of the subject so again not real. The simplest analogy I can come up to describe what I mean if if you film yourself making and eating a hamburger then it is still not the same thing as you making and eating that hamburger. In the first you get all of the data but the second gives the feel and taste of what you got on the screen.

POV porn came to be because it's cheaper and easier to produce than anything else. All you need is a camera and the ability to get and retain an erection while holding a camera or in many cases having that camera on a tripod.

^Very lost with your reply. I originally said that porn doesn't have to represent making love. Flash said it can't, as did you. This makes absolutely no sense. Porn as described in the article and many like it isn't the process of making it, it's the product that people consume. Just as I can watch a mainstream movie with 2 characters in love having sex, I can watch porn that presents just the same. No one said it was real. This article started out by saying mainstream porn isn't what people are doing at home. That's pretty simple. I said it doesn't have to be. But to say that it can't is simply wrong. I know this because I've watched it.

Hamburgers? An analogy that would better reference the article is that if I watched someone cook and eat a hamburger on TV, I can then try to do the same at home. A fairly common thing that people do. But if the cooking shows start leaning toward cooking and eating cats and dogs, people are not as likely to do that. Yeah, I know, some people do that. The point is, some people might watch the show, but most are going to go home and cook hamburgers.

As for POV and virtual porn, it's there because there is a market for it. They are searchable terms on porn sites. People seek it out. They do so because it puts the viewer in the action.

Also, to comment on some of the other comparisons, such as car chases, slasher movies, action movies, etc. . There aren't too many people watching those that then do some form of that at home. But, I'm sure that if one did some research, they would find that the more realistic/repetitive any of these scenes are, them more likely they are to be mimicked should one be interested. Sex on the other hand, everyone is doing that at home. And many of the themes in porn are very realistic/repetitive.

I really don't get the butt hurt with the article. Is it because people fear that if it gains too much traction, it could change what is available? Is it because people don't like being called out as the consumer of the content in question? Is it because the title is asking people to question the kind of porn they watch?

The article simply says some simple truths. I don't believe porn has an obligation to represent reality. But the fact is, it doesn't.

People feel like the article is taking a dump on shitty porn that is uncomfortable for women. Stuff that is uncomfortable for the performer, incest, and barely-an-adult content are huge and any bashing of those kinds of content will draw ire from a not-small section of the porn industry and fandom.

Article says- It's porn that has been worked on ethically, where there is care and no subjugation of eternal working hours, and we don't see the sex act as the main thing.

So much for being sex positive.

She wants porn where sex is not the main thing and all kinds of women are in it. For her, it should reflect the average person's sex life, and it is really an appeal to embrace mediocrity so the average woman does not feel uncomfortable about her own self image.

And she wants it go mainstream.

As if there is a person certifying what is mainstream or not. The way it works is something strikes a chord with most people and it becomes commercialised. Additionally, porn itself is not mainstream yet - so what's the ask anyway?

I have seen post quarantine weight gain of models be lauded by fans of girls who were otherwise skinny. Siri and Angela are routinely asked to put on pounds and many others are lauded for it.

In case anyone did not notice, she wants porn to be controlled. Skinny young girls making big bucks she does not like at all. Forced diversity minus labels and cashing on the outrage, that's how any kind of power grab happens.

A very unhappy person she does not like porn and is not in the least interested in producing it. I suggest she gets erotica funded by state and get it distributed for free, that's the only way you can get influence. If it is not a choice it is straight up mind control.

If the ask was for love, caress, intimacy and promotion of health and sex positivity (it was not) these things are quietly being produced by studios like sexart among others. They don't sit with Vice and complain.

Also, a lot of creativity is involved in spicing up the usual sex acts. The industry rarely comes up with new ideas and forced sanitisation will further impede innovation.

What are you even talking about? Stop raging out, bro

"What would you like to see more of in mainstream porn?
The person with a vagina is not seen as a desiring subject, but as an object to be pulled out of, pumped, drilled and hurt. We need to see people with a vagina being allowed to actually express their own sexuality, using their own methods. We don't hear dialogue, we don't see a search for pleasure, we don't witness agreement or consent. We just see a hole being penetrated. You don't see the use of a condom, either, and that is another danger because mainstream porn is, regrettably, many people's school."

"What do you make of the bodies we see in mainstream porn?
They're more or less all the same. Women are slim. Men are muscular and have gigantic penises they can keep erect for a really long time. The industry pushes an idea of what is correct, what is consumable, what is erotic. Bodies that don't fit this find themselves put into fetish categories. "

Dude, where did she say any what you said at?

I think you're talking about this part
"What are the alternatives?
Feminist porn, post-porn and ethical porn are different variations of porn that aim to modify everything that porn has taught us. It's about a representation that reflects the sexual practices of women, their tastes, the diversity of bodies, shapes, colours, and sizes. Bodies are shown in another way: There are fat bodies, trans bodies, bodies with hair, cellulite and stretch marks. Sexual relations are also diverse; I even saw asexuality incorporated recently. It's porn that has been worked on ethically, where there is care and no subjugation of eternal working hours, and we don't see the sex act as the main thing. Perhaps what's still missing is the representation of other practices: eroticising other shapes and methods, but above all, dialogue."

I don't understand what's wrong with this at all.
You again took everything she said out of context

^^ Read between the lines. You seem to have taken the article on face value.

For instance, she says "Desire, as much as sexuality itself, is a social construct. We can't deconstruct it from one day to the next. This is a process that I think will take generations."

There is implicit subtext of 'patriarchy has shaped our desires and we need to deconstruct them'.

So a woman who likes being dominated by her man is a victim of patriarchy and she must be educated and until she can get over it, this could take generations [but it will be worth it].

Definition of patriarchy - a family, group, or government controlled by a man or a group of men.

But being male is a social construct according to her, therefore she negates her own premise.

Oh,God, dude...
She didn't say anything like that and you again just took everything out of context.
You just sound really biased towards any talk of feminism and the patriarchal system of porn.( when I say the patriarchal system of porn, I understand that women make more than men and there are more women directors and producers now but the porn industry is still largely controlled by men)
So, I feel it's not worth talking to you about it. Again, you taking what she out of context.

"How is the blame managed if a person consumes this type of porn?
Desire, as much as sexuality itself, is a social construct. We can't deconstruct it from one day to the next. This is a process that I think will take generations. We're currently in a hinge generation where everything is overlapping, everything is mixed up. If you were taught to watch the mainstream porn we're talking about here, it is hard to undo that. But there is another type of porn out there. We can't escape desire and fantasy but we can question our consumption habits. And we can change them little by little. "
Again what the hell are you talking about ?

How do you get "Desire "itself is a social construct to being male is a social construct?? This is puzzling to me.
she didn't say anything about men or gender in this at all.

This is why porn needs to show more foreplay and less pounding and choking.

My biggest issue is that regardless of what she says and is advocating for, meaning more diversity in porn, more story driven porn, etc..., todays porn, at least in the US and I think Europe, is scene driven, not story driven. Thus, IMO, it means people go find the porn that they also want to watch, or porn star that they want to see, or type of sex act they want to see, typically these 2 things are also not mutually exclusive. You look up Anna De Ville and you will most assuredly get some serious anal pounding.

And while things may be about the female talent, there have been issues in terms of guys being overly violent, the case of August Ames' last scenes come to mind and her suicide. That said, there's very little romance in porn. But counterpoint to that is also the 1st paragraph, people will find what they want to see, whether that's anal, milf, bit tits, blow jobs, jav, etc...

I'm personally turned off by overly violent, fuck'em as hard as possible, in every hole scenes. That said, I have a choice to not watch them either.

Basically what's author is advocating for is more female centric scenes, and that's fine. I think there is a place for that and there will be an audience. No one is stopping her from doing so. That said, the market will speak.

This is my biggest concern. I mean, I also understand concerns about storylines that present consent as something that happens after you just wear down the woman and things like that, but in the present day I just want to see porn that does something interesting and that ain't happening without some kind of taboo breaking because that's how sexuality seems to work. That, and some effort with the audio, but that's another thread haha.

Not a victim, but certainly a product. As are men. Reflecting on how our sexuality has been shaped, and finding pleasure in the things we get off on, are not mutually exclusive. Read Carol Vance's stuff from the 1980s like Pleasure and Danger--that is true sex positive feminism. I'm not saying the interviewer/interviewee conveyed their thinking in the best way, but the logic you're presenting here is not particularly nuanced either.

Porn is fantasy, many use it to arouse themselves & as a vehicle for masturbation.
I don't watch an NBA game & go to my local playground expecting the same type of players and ability as I just saw on TV.

Porn can be both
If I shot porn with my wife, is that just fantasy too?
You can make porn look more like real sex and also keep the fantasy.

Read the article and now I'm certain the writer is boring in bed. The type who has condom sex once a week tops probably once a month. A lot of women like all the things she's hates about porn. Chocking, deep throating, pissing, objectifying, dominance and submission if it's performed well you clearly see the females peak higher with stronger orgasms than this writer probably ever had. Thing is this whole article kind of puts blame on men while lesbian sex has a lot of these things as well. Explore fantasies tap into things you haven't done before. Use porn to get new ideas how to keep it fun and playful. Don't do things you're certain you don't like and don't portray others who do like those things. For me as a man what turns me on more than anything is a woman who enjoys what she's doing. Their bodies do the talking I don't need a dull writers opinion for that.

As far as body types I think we have all kinds really. The most popular are beautiful men and women, duh.

One more thing. I do think a lot of pornstars go beyond what they actually like to please the audience or get more money get recognized etc. But those fall through eventually or get burnt out or just quit.

Do you know women who like this stuff and you dated them?
Are you a lesbian or know lesbians that have this type of sex?
my guess is no
Also, you come off sounding like an asshole here.
You don't know her or her sex life.
Just like I don't know your sex life and how much sex you have had in life.
Most women aren't into pissing and choking ( I know my wife isn't ),
if some women are into that. That's cool and more power to them but most women aren't into stuff like that.
Maybe you should try to listen to women and ask women are they into stuff like that.
She's just one but still a woman, even if you don't like what she has to say.

You realize that making up random insults about the writer makes you just come across as a jerk and voids everything else you say, right?

^ Yep. Plus:
This blurs the line between performance and reality. Which is it? A good performance? or a document of real pleasure? It can be both of course, but that doesn't get at the heart of the issue which is the representation constructed in porn and how selective it is. Men enjoy all the things you describe, yet we rarely see it in porn and that's not because the performers don't do it in their private life.

random insult just isn't good form. It's just someone that wants something different from her porn experience, and likely, since she seems like she has her door in the biz, she's heard it from other women, or more likely, as said since she has a foot in the door of the biz, has interviewed women and what they would like to see in porn.

In terms of the "a lot of women like what she hates...", people consume porn for whatever reason they do, they like what they like, and people will gravitate to the porn and/or pornstars that they find attractive.

I would completely agree that there are all kinds of bodies out there in all kinds of porn, she's referring to mainstream though, but I would be curious what she considers "mainstream." These days, it's hard to define, is it a company like Brazzers, or maybe pornhub? Onlyfans? I just don't see a real mainstream these days. Esp since outside of really JAV, every video is single scene driven, not really movies. But with that said, even on pornhub and onlyfans, you can pretty much find every type of body type. But even with that said, and as mentioned above, people will gravitate to what attracts them, whether thats certain pornstars, or type of porn.

It can also be assumed that a lot of pornstars are also only doing it for the money, that they really don't want to be choked, pissed on, dominated, take 3 dicks in their ass. But with that said, they'll do it for the money. Granted, you're probably also right that some of them are likely into it. I think one of the great thing about todays porn is that if they aren't into this kind of thing, they can do something else, make their onlyfans page and do stuff they like and make some money doing it.

^ wasn't that random. I based it on her views and scares of male ejaculation, lack of condoms in sex scenes etc. One is a natural conclusion to stimulation and the thing she actually wants to see is a synthetic invention that is as sexy as a raincoat. She says a lot of people use it as sex Ed, maybe the issue is with the quality of actual sex Ed at school. Then then next topic what is mainstream or not. Personally I mostly watch professional porn and my favorite site is Deeper.com, is that mainstream? Or is what you see on the tube sites mainstream? Cause the amateur porn that you find there is often a lot more hardcore, or less feminist as she would say. Take Maitland Ward on Deeper for example, she had a career on television she most likely didn't need to do porn to pay her bills. Do you think she doesn't actually like all the stuff she does on camera? She said in interviews that she's exploring her sexuality. Same as a lot of other pornstars in particular those who like it rough. You clearly see the response of their body, they have more intense orgasms many more times than what I believe a feminist sex scene will be like. I don't believe it's all fake act to please the male viewers. Different girls like different things. If it takes 45 min (a quick Google search says an average man only lasts 6 min by the way) of slow in and out penetration on the bed to get you off once and that's considered feminist and how you like it, then fine but don't put that on others who like other things. I think she went to tube sites and got shocked by what is most viewed. The gap between her sexuality and people who are into sex. I'd love to hear from pornstars who are already at the top of the ladder and do rough scenes.

Since some people here think Tati Español doesn't know about non-mainstream. I'll just post where I find this from ...

I think it was Angela White who once said: "You don't watch porn to learn how to have sex, like you don't watch 2 Fast 2 Furious to learn how to drive". And that's the whole thing if you'd ask me. I agree with the writer of the article that there is a risk of people thinking that what they see on screen is normal. But isn't that the biggest problem of the modern era? With all the filters on Insta, likes on Facebook and commercials that make us think that what we see is 'normal'. But shouldn't we still think ourselfs of what we see and what we LIKE ourselfs?

And why label everything? The post above talks about feminist porn? What is feminist porn? I mean, my wife is good looking, has a masters degree, earns her own money and stands for womens rights. Pretty feminist I think. But we have done threesomes, she likes to be submissive and from time to time she loves an anal pounding (allthough I shouldn't use this word anymore according the article). All because she watches 'mainstream' porn and sees things that she wants to try. And if she (or we) don't like it, we don't do it the next time.

But you can't put the blame for not discussing sex with your partner on the porn industry. What you can blame on the industry is that they use young performers. Better would be a minimum age of 25 years old, because people have the time to develop themselves more to see what they like and don't like. I also hate it on this forum when a performer tweets about a first anal performance, and the next ten posts go about when she is going to do DP instead of complimenting her on the fact that she tried herself something new and how it felt for her. Because we need more porn where people really like what they do on screen.

Explore, enjoy and discuss!

^ You are so right. Except,
You say this in good faith and the following is not strictly a response to the contents of your statement but the implication of it, that is, having only 25+ yo girls in industry.

How is something ok and legal if not filmed is beyond me. The issue then is not sex - sex is okay - its making money that is bad.

Lana Rhoades is 25 and already enjoying a great retirement while seeing her 16M+ followers on instagram grow. It's a massive advantage starting out early.

^But Lana seemed to have mental issues after a some time in the industry. Give them some time to get to know life a bit, to experience that your own opinion is the most important one and your own pleasure is the most important thing. I tend not to see that a lot by younger performers..

^ Frankly I see that with mainstream actresses too.

Other than that I think your thoughts are beautiful and if young woman read that and thought about it it would be better. Enforcing it will further regress sex positivity.

Rest of what you wrote hit the nail on head.

I much prefer Charly Rae her views on porn scenes who's been reviewing scenes on pornhub:
