| Dr. Nasty Senior Member Asa Akira.....Damn! 3797 Posts 9/05 | While reading the "Sasha wants Hollywood" it got me thinking. I know there are quite a number of Indie Films, Overseas Films, and Low Budget films that have actual explicit sexual Intercourse or other acts in them (Brown Bunny, 9 Songs), But never a big budget Hollywood film. I wonder if there will ever be a time in our lives when the line between Porn and Hollywood is blurred to make a new genre of films. With Pornstars receiving more and more recognition these days and more mainstream work, it seems it is going in the right direction. I would love to see like a Basic Instinct 3 starring Sasha Grey or Jenna Haze where it is an actual mainstream movie where she just happens to engage in explicit sex with a co star a few times. Whether it was a Pornstar having sex with a Celebrity(example; Kristina Rose w/ Hugh Jackman), two Pornstars or two Celebrities going at it (ex; Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt) I think it would be a good thing and someone needs to take the leap, but no one will. What better way for a celebrity to show an uninhibited side to their acting than to engage in actual intercourse on the silver screen. Anyone else have thoughts on this? *****The Dr. of Nasty***** [Link] |

But we won't see mainstream films with real sex scenes simply because porn and mainstream cinema serve different entertainment needs. You don't go to the movies with your buddies to have a wank during the action on the silver screen. |

| SunShowers Member 333 Posts 4/08 | There will never be "real sex" in mainstream film, nor should there be. I don't want to insult ANYONE who posts here. I obviously like porn or I wouldn't be posting here... But let's be honest: porn is porn. It's not thoughtful or meaningful. There are people out there who would like it to be considered a form of art, but anyone who has read a brilliant piece of writing, studied a vibrant painting, listened to a powerful piece of music, or seen an intelligent, well-scripted, visually-stunning film can see the distinction. Why are there people who even wonder about this? Porn is porn. The human being is divided into a variety of compartments, one of those being the Lower Nature. That is made up, among other things, of sex drive. Now, porn caters to this drive. Porn is an undeniable part of the human nature and essential to our survival. And anyone who rubs one off to a porn "actor" is indebted to that person for providing them with that experience... And oftentimes, enjoying the indignity that person has undergone. How does it enrich the human being? Does it inspire him? Excite anything other than his sexual impulses? I'm willing to bet the answer to that is a negative. I take this seriously because I'm in theater, have worked on productions, taken classes, and aspire to work in film at some point. And I have done and will do all those things because movies MOVE me. They enliven my thinking, they stir my emotions, they make me think. And they do this for other people. Film, to me, is untouchable. Movies are the surest way to introduce ideas and concepts to people that wouldn't necessarily come to them on their own. Books require effort. Film is the perfect medium to reach people. Some things are sacred and film is one of them. Let's leave sex where it belongs, in porn or the bedroom (or wherever you like to get nasty), and preserve what is good and dignified. In conclusion, no. If it did catch on, I'd lose my mind. |

| Cuddly Wombat Senior Member Just another bare bum in the shiower 1739 Posts 12/04 | I recall an article about Rutger Hauer working with Paul Verhoeven, and Rutger said he was prepared to do anything sexual on film but Paul should not expect him to be able to get an erection. Whilst those little blue pills may be the answer these days, I don't think professional actors would feel comfortable trying to emulate the physical feats of, and being judged by the same critical standards in their sexual performance as, professional porn stars. But I honestly don't think it will be long before we see more hardcore background scenes in Hollywood films that can be easily edited out and put on an entended dvd version - for instance, something like the orgy scene in "Eyes Wide Shut" with clear penetration shots, or the main character walks through a brothel and a girl is giving a client a blow-job in the corridor (ala "Dead Man"). |
| Dr. Nasty Senior Member Asa Akira.....Damn! 3797 Posts 9/05 | I'm not saying that celebrities have to perform like pornstars or put on like a 10 minute sex scene. Maybe a like 30 secs of showing the actual penetration or however long is needed to give the scene emphasis or meaning. Also the ones that are comfortable with engaging in an actual sex act with their on screen partner should be able to. Then they can either release the unedited/uncut/uncensored version in movie theaters as NC17 for either one night or in a seperate security guarded theater. Or they could just do as Cuddly Wombat said and release the content on dvd. There are a few lady celebs I know wouldn't mind this. The one girl from Pineapple Express said(in Maxim I believe)that she didn't mind doing a lot more than getting naked in a movie. *****The Dr. of Nasty***** |
| SunShowers Member 333 Posts 4/08 | There are a lot of stupid movies. My point was that the lazy, ignorant people of this country are always going to be movie goers, but not so much readers of great books. You can set seeds in people through film. |
| SunShowers Member 333 Posts 4/08 | Why do you think a few seconds of penetration in a HOLLYWOOD film, a film laboriously written and developed by teams of people, a film NOT about sex and starring real actors, is needed to give the scene "meaning?" I've seen plenty simulated love scenes in movies that are fine without requiring the poor actors to have to fuck each other. Good God. If a woman wanted to be a porn star, she'd be in porn. |
| Derek117 Senior Member 1605 Posts 1/06 | As for your question: my guess is there will be a time in which big Hollywood productions will contain hardcore action. This will happen after the porn industry "standard" is high quality, story-driven Features; with performers who can act. This will move both hardcore & mainstream closer together; and then Hollywood productions will hire porn performers for minor acting parts, and to do hardcore scenes. | Dr. Nasty Senior Member Asa Akira.....Damn! 3797 Posts 9/05 | As far as your question "Why do you think a few seconds of penetration in a HOLLYWOOD film, a film laboriously written and developed by teams of people, a film NOT about sex and starring real actors, is needed to give the scene "meaning?"". I don't know where you have been but there are plenty of movies written, filmed and developed about sex. Also I never said that showing penetration is needed to give a scene meaning. I'm saying that if they were to do it they should do it tastefully, to where it doesn't degrade the film. It should have a purpose, not just be a hardcore scene thrown in. As far as this statement by you "I've seen plenty simulated love scenes in movies that are fine without requiring the poor actors to have to fuck each other. Good God.", I don't know what you meant by "poor actors" but either way....If you meant "poor actors" in a symapthetic way then all I can say is wow. You make it sound like they are being subjected to torture or some other horrible event. If you meant "poor actors" as in money, all I can say is this. They are celebrities for a reason. Most have plenty of money, and as I said before. Some known actresses have said/hinted they would not mind if it was called for and tasteful. Lastly, from what I have gathered from all of your posts is this(just my opinion). I am getting that you think sex, not porn, sex is some horrible thing that should be kept in its own sheltered area and not let out into the light. Unless its for your personal pleasure. Hell, you even made a religious comparison and used the word Sacriledge. Really! This is one of the reasons people think our country is so uptight and prudish. Hell even people here think that. That is why they attack the porn industry everyday, trying to shut it down. I do agree with you on one thing. Porn is not art. If a movie is good without sex, then its good without it. If a movie is good with sex, then that is fine too. I just think that if someone wants to be able to do it they should have the Freedom to. Key word Free. *****The Dr. of Nasty***** Edited by - Dr. Nasty on 4/30/2009 12:54:19 PM |
| SunShowers Member 333 Posts 4/08 | As to me being a prude, I'm a modest person. That's not to say I'm intrinsically better than anyone, but I make decisions based on principle and dignity. I hold certain standards. And they are my standards, not anyone else's. But like a lot of people, I have interests and pursuits that are important to me. I believe completely in the preservation of these. I understand the distinction you meant between "porn" and simply "sex in mainstream film." However, IMHO, there is no difference between the two. Someone might argue that the purpose of porn is to completely excite someone sexually, and that "real sex in mainstream film" would simply be a mainstream film with real sex. I don't foresee the two being separate from one another. And frankly, the idea is appalling to me. Interestingly enough, I read a paper about "brotherhoods" in America and their methods of breaking down the country. One of these was through porn and the casual treatment of sex, which is why this idea strikes me as being dangerous. I don't know, Dr. Nasty. It's fashionable to be loose with your sexuality right now, but at what cost? I agree that being too rigid and shaming people about their sexuality is wrong. You can't go too far in either direction. So why can't we keep porn porn and let moves continue as they are? That way the balance might be preserved. |

| skronker Notable Legendary Icon Scopophiliac 9780 Posts 9/02 | "Hollywood" films are mostly going to be bigger budget, CGI-driven, formula fare as the years roll forward ... mostly a place for technological innovation and Will Smith. There's not much interesting happening now, aside from some deeper weirdness in the comic book superhero lines. The audience they want is kids. Kids who then want the video games. It's just not a format for graphic sex, let along highly sophisticated grown-up writing. Of course, you'll always have the Oscar bait, starring Kate Winslet as Meryl Streep. But that's even less likely to skirt any transgressive domain. The indies, on the other hand, will become more and more pervasive ... thanks to cheaper filmmaking technology, digital distribution streams, and a generation of kids who grew up with YouTube. And my guess is that a percentage of these filmmakers will find ways to include graphic sex as part of their stories. Especially, since, for the most part people aren't going to be watching these in theaters .... but off their media servers. I think this topic is only a big deal because we live in the US. I mean, go rent Tsai Ming-Liang’s The Wayward Cloud which is both outrageous and kind of perfect (it's "about" porn) ... and has a graphic finale that's pure JM Productions. Of course, I know, Asians are crazy. But sexuality, twisted, extreme, or not, has been much more out there on screen in the East ... I wish my buddy David Aaron Clark would jump in here to discourse, but he avoids the message boards ... But then, you have the long tradition of pinku, which allowed a lot of 60s filmmakers the occasion to do whatever the fuck they wanted as long as there was some fucking onscreen. Our problem here, as far as the mainstream goes, is that generally, instead of absorbing the "human liberation" aspects that graphic sexuality offers, the T&A that permeates mainstream media is mostly a watered down and tarted up version of Porn Valley's generic exploitation. We need a little more Dusan Makavejev with our "American Pie." (Although, I should say that I loved "American Pie." Sex IS comedy.) Speaking of ... what about Rocco's forays into the arthouse? He may have been a special effect but it counts for something. And Briellat? I'm not sure all her efforts are successful but she damn sure rattles the cage. And of course there's Asia Argento .... Then again, the topic was "Hollywood," and if that's the case then I'd say, No, you will never see Julia Roberts go down on Brad Pitt ... |

Currently playing at the Toronto International Film Festival (no I was not able to get a ticket), it's supposed to have real sex, but fake genital mutilation (you know, just for kicks). If you've seen any other Von Trier works, you just know this one will be a barrel of laughs. (BTW maybe one of our Scandinavian or Dutch members could help me out here: am I supposed to capitalize the 'V' in his name? I always get mixed up with that.) |

| danl Member 436 Posts 3/05 | This has always seemed to me to be "ludicrous," since so many main stream films build a considerable amount of the plot to the very thing they "can't or won't" show on camera. Some here have said that the two genres, main stream and, what I like to call "steam stream," should be forever separate for the purity of art's sake, or some "hog wash" of that nature. I say, just the opposite, for any director knows a film can never be true to its art, if it is forced to leave out a HUGE part of the screen plot for WHATEVER reason!!---sort a like filming a sequel to "Jaws" without the shark, as Evil Angel's clueless directors discovered when they left out Taylor St Claire in their miserable sequel to perhaps the greatest porn film of all time, "Fashionistas." To me, every time a main stream film's public relations team builds a promo around the hot "spark" generated by the interaction between a particular male and female actor, but eliminates the explicit sex that MUST take place, it is demonstrating the height of hypocrisy. For just as in Fashioninstas II, without seeing what would have been the "wrath" of Taylor's sexual revenge, we the viewers were left "hanging"---- as we are constantly in every "steamy" main stream film production........... UNTIL!!! |

But he certainly could have been, as it looked damn realistic. My point is, that stuff like this is showing up more and more in the mainstream world, and I believe that in the next few years more and more films and cable shows will cross over into having real sex on camera. |

| 4theheart Senior Member pornologist 3102 Posts 8/01 | . As for showing having two different versions of the same movie at the same theater on the same day,it could be possible; have there been any previous examples of that occurring? I would think that the effectiveness of that idea may also depend on the individual theater's economic motivation to show both films. And even in that case, the possibility for restriction of viewing audiences(and revenue) could still exist, although it would be mitigated somewhat vs. having just an NC-17 film I would think. Some interesting possibilities though and I guess we'll just have to see. |
| ppchaser Member 30 Posts 9/09 | i think this is the main reason why you'll never see real sex in Hollywood. Getting slapped with an X, R or even an NC 17 rating is shooing away a lot of the movie-going public. And HW is about the money. Even action flicks have needed to tone down the violence just to fit PG13 or GP. Real sex in Hollywood -- wishful thinking, unfortunately. |
