Why is it that if a guy asks a woman out but she says no, the guy has to accept it, ask no questions and move on but if it's the other way round, the woman can act like a moron and give the Spanish Inquisition about why the guy isn't interested?

They do?
The only situation where I have experienced anything similar to what you are describing is when the lady was a SO - g/f, fiancee, or wife.

Oh ... and under the same circumstances I guess I did a bit of the Spanish Inquisition on them.
Because it's more threatening to a woman if a man continue to come on to a woman who is not interested, then vice versa.

I'm just not polite anymore. If a guy asks me out and I say no, and he keeps pressing me on it I'll just be honest. "Hey, you're ugly", or "your'e not my type", or "you're a loser", or my favorite, "I am not attracted to you on any level". It may seem harsh but it avoids them wasting anymore of my time, and it avoids me wasting their time with sugar coated rejections that just keeps them harassing you. It may be mean, but somtimes the truth hurts!
I can see why. You're a hottie. A guy would be a fool not to try as hard as he can to change your mind.
Fortunately, I've never had to chase after a woman, most of the time we started out as friends and I already knew they liked me. Also, I've always had lots of females friends and they would introduce me to their friends. Much easier than trying to "pick up" a woman at a bar or club.

Never had that experiance. I don't get many NO's. and even when I do I usually just immediatly go flirt with another girl and make sure the girl who I asked out earlier sees. Usually she comes over to me sometime during the night and I score. (not sex all the time but I do end up kissing and getting a number)
One reason is that men are often larger and physically stronger than women, so it could be distressing and intimidating for her if we do not accept the first "no". This means that for a man, to "ask no questions and move on" is simply good manners.
I don't have a problem with being rejected...what I have a problem with is when women show no interest, and then you find out years later they had a huge crush on you and were "playing hard to get". That makes no sense to me.
On the flip side, I also hate women that don't like you, but get OFFENDED by the fact that you are attracted to them. Like it's an insult to them or something.
I just move on. After all, if she is somebody I don't know, I have no real emotional commitment. If it is somebody I know, I probably have some idea of the answer beforehand.
Brooke_fan, I know what you mean. One time, a woman kept going after me. Since she was a friend of a friend I socialized with, it was hard to avoid her. She even got my e-mail from my friend and sent me some modeling shots. Not recommended - it took forever for me to get my e-mail and since I had no idea what was taking so long I got pissed off, and I had to download my e-mail to clear the queue (this was before web-mail). She would also always grab my ass and drop hints (in the way a gun to the temple is a hint). At what point does the idea of NO get through?
