Ok, you are a woman and talk with other women, but how do you know that there aren't women who enjoy these movies?

I was referring to an earlier post on page 1 of this thread, where Flash posed the question, in which he wondered if female-directed porn films were purposely aimed towards bringing in more female viewers, or not.

Perhaps this might be true of female-directed features. I've only seen female-directed gonzo films, however. I'm simply stating my opinion that I didn't see any thing that gave me the idea that these two gonzo films were aimed at a female audience, anymore than a typical RLD or Evil Angel film is aimed in this direction.

I certainly didn't imply that there aren't female viewers who could/have enjoyed the films I've seen.

The few porn films that I've really enjoyed were directed by men. Were these films made to be more appealing to women? No. Actually, two of the best scenes for me, that I've ever watched, were in RLD films (the scenes were good, the rest of the films were typical RLD fare). I am under no illusions that RLD is aiming for a female audience.

Maybe there's not a broad enough occurance of female directed porn across the spectrum to tell yet?

One thing that I've noticed immediately is that female directed porn tends to gravitate toward prettier people being hired. You don't have as much back hair on the guys.

Seriously, there are a lot of female gonzo directors: Belladonna, Jewel de Nyle, Kylie Ireland, Mason...

Bridgette Kerkove cast, wardrobe, produced and directed over 40 Gonzos in 2004, plus 3 features. She is directing a movie right now as I type, directed one 2 days ago and one the week before. She has directed one feature and 2 gonzos in less then 2 weeks.

The whole idea of a "porn director" is a contradiction in terms. This is a legacy of 7os/80s porn when you had graduates from UCLA's film school thinking that they could use their porn credits to segue into the mainstream.

What, pray tell, is there to direct in a porn movie, given that there seemed to be about 7 different positions in total?

Think of directing as being the captain of a boat. It might be a little fishing boat, it might be an aircraft carrier; either way you're the captain.

Only silly people confuse the requirements of being a fishing boat captain with the requirement of being the commander of an aircraft carrier.

In either case, there's probably someone ashore that both captains have to answer to.

This seems to be a topic alot on ADT and I wanna say again that if I sign on to do something - I do it. I don't lend my name out to someone just to put on the box. I produce, direct, do all the paperwork, shoot the set stills and often even end up shooting the BTS! I do the casting and come up with the concepts. I am present for the editing, the boxcover shoot and I do much of the design on the boxcover as well. Ask any of the people at PXP or Redlight, ask any of the talent I shoot.

In the past I wrote a monthly article for AVN's Sexpose Magazine and I used to get the same shit..."oh, she doesn't write the stuff, someone else does..." and when I did Publicity for a year at VCA...same shit. I have to tell you all I am getting tired of having to defend myself - why is it so unbelievable that a girl in the adult industry can do jobs and projects such as these?? Some of us have brains and creativity! Look at Jewel, Belladonna, Shane, Veronica Hart, Bridgette, Chloe, and the list goes on. All good directors, all involved in their projects. Personally I have found that porn viewers think it's hot to see that a chick can direct dirty filthy smut too.

That's my 2 cents.

According to Jim Holliday's Only The Best: "Joanna Williams exists and is not some name used by a male in disguise." Holliday could have been wrong about what he claimed. Holliday credits Gail Palmer as being the Director of the Candy movies, etc.. Don Fernando was in Erotic Adventures Of
Candy and he says that Harry Mohney was the real Director, not Gail Palmer. I have also talked to crew members of the "Gail Palmer" movies and they said that she didn't do the directing. Bob Chinn didn't want to speak on the record about the rumors that he directed some of the "Gail Palmer"
movies. There are other Director credits in Only The Best that I have been told are not true. Howard Ziehm says he
was the Director of Mona The Virgin Nymph, not Bill Osco. Holliday only credits Ziehm as being the Cinematographer.
William Margold says he directed California Valley Girls, not Hal Freeman (who was the Producer of the movie).
Suze Randall has told me that Victor Nye is her husband (Humphry Knipe).

I am a female. I own all of the Service Animals series, most of the Euroangel Hardball series, and most of Rocco's Animal Trainers. (Just to give some examples of my taste) I love rough, hardcore sex. None of these series compare to the 2 movies I own Directed by Mason - Riot Sluts and Mason's Sexual Disorder. Maybe they appeal to me even more because I know it is another woman with a love for that type of activity behind the camera. No, they are just fucking good flicks.

Thank you for going on the record and clarifying that for me and everyone else that has been hearing about who's directorship is shaping your movies.

You have always produced very hardcore, creative and beautiful fetish scenes. I love your movies, and the web site as well. It's very nice to know that you truly are behind the camera, regardless of what the rumours are.

Keep it up Kylie!

i can confirm tanya hide is a man. i am not willing to say who he is - cos he will kill me if he reads this.
in my opinion he is the best porn director ever. i only buy his porn!
i dont know if he is a cross dresser but he is certainly intouch with my type of fantasy.

as far as being a female director...if i may be permitted to give my view ( i dont consider myself as a director - i just had the money, contacts and inclination to try something out)...

...i just do things as i see them.
i love masons stuff - i would never have guessed that was a woman directing and there was no gimmick factor involved in the marketing of her films as i see it.
anna spans stuff i find padestrian.
it just pisses me off when the girls putting there name to things arent actually doing anything but putting there names to things. thats why the phrase "presesnts" was invented.
ive turned up on sets where said female director spends her whole time in the make up room gossiping.

my stuff. i find real cos i know it is. its a sexy minded girl taking her take on things. inventing the concept and actually directing the action.
i re did my scene with JM UK style. i openly admit it. i copied jim lane. it was a hot idea. my version didnt asthetically turm out so well but it made up in personality and profile.
i film things that ive actually done and found a turn on.
its not just the bukkake - many have tried in the uk but mine had the most poke cos it was presented by me - a girl who obviously was besotted with the concept, rather than being filmed from a boring 3rd person angle.

the other films were complete fantasy to me just with my take and apparantly they worked.

i hate "say good buy to the viewers" and any scene that involves a door!

i am big fan of belladonna's directorial work. I have not really not seen much other female directed work other than hers. I am also a big fan of her performances which is a large factor in me buying her work. The reason i like her productions though is because i think she really brings something unique to evil angel, its nasty as hell, hot as hell, and has alot more creativity scene wise than most. I am abit being abit biest here but thats what being a fan is all about,

From my point of view, it is a refreshing change to see women included behind the helms of a porn movie. As mentioned throughout this thread, there are good and bad directors.

When I think (from a male point of view) about a woman directing there are two kinds I am already expecting.

One, soft focus, slowmotion, passion, sweeping music and nothing to rude you couldnt sit next to your Mum and watch Two: Seriously frightening displays of raw passion and unadulterated female power crackling off the screen. Everything else may sit between these two polarities.

I would like to stress here that a serious amount of patronising is given to women once they have taken up directing porn but it all boils down to one thing in the end: Appealing to a certain market.

I don't know for sure that Annas sales reflect her popularity/ notoriety as a woman making porn. Personally I feel she is capable of producing something a lot higher than porn for women. I don't blame her for feeling she is filling a void but I remain sceptical whether a woman making porn makes much difference at all to the end user.

The criticisms levelled at Anna have been too long building up a scene but generally she get accredited for good direction and focussing on the things that people expect; like intimacy, expressions, eye contact and all the other ingredients that go into making a porn scene sexy.

The way I see it, if you watch it and feel it, then the director no matter the gender has done what he/she set out to achieve.

In general, I don't really see anyone breaking new ground in porn at all...not even me. Believe me, I have thought long and hard about it.

What is sexy? Sexy is subjective to everyone. A woman being a woman doesnt necessarily know how to be sexy. For me, a womans allure is in the eyes as opposed to her general packaging. To capture real sexuality is not as easy as you might think in these trying and contrived times.

By the way, I've seen Belladonnas Evil Pink and loved it!A very good example of a good female director but then that's because it appealed to me as a guy who loves to watch women

"One Night in Vegas" was the first thing that I ever directed. I appreciate and enjoy reading constructive critism about what I do. But for the record, it is my aspiration to be known as a good director not a good FEMALE director. My second release "Second Thoughts" is due out in September. Although it is a feature, the sex is much harder and edgier than my last title. I am anxious to hear what everyone thinks about it!!

Thanks, Stormy,
for giving us your point of view.

I'm glad you're posting here on ADT. Always wondered why no Wicked girl except Devinn is a forum regular.

Looking forward to your second film.
