Xbox console price just dropped to $149.99.

Do you think that PlayStation 2 and Game Cube will follow?

Damn I spent $300 on my PSX 2.

The PSX 2 is the best system of the 3
& they have the best games out.

Don't care for the XBox or GameCube.

I have all three consoles and I like Xbox the best simply because the graphics of games are much better and the same goes for the loading time which is faster. Sure PS2 has more games but the most important games are also being released on the Xbox.

I'm not sure about the price drop though, I think they will do the same.

Hmmm Seems on My XBox vs PS2 the load times are about the same - I hate the XBox controller tho... By far the fastest load times I have seen for a CDROM based sys is GC. As for the gfx, well I don't see a huge diff, but then again I lay games for fun not their gfx - I mean I still have my NES and SNES I play now and then because the games were GOOD! I'm still a die hard PS/PS2 man... I think X will fade much like Sega did.

I hope they drop the price... I's like a second PS2 in the living room

Yes I'm so used to the PSX controller.

The XBox controller is too FAT
& awkward looking. It sucks!

Sony all the way!

Good news. I wonder if there will be more GameCube bundled with some games like Nintendo did a few months ago with Zelda. I'm still kicking myself for not picking up on that deal.

X Box isnt that bad, I kinda strongly believe that its the worst of 3 but I only think so because its has only few good game. PS2 is #1 in my opinion: it has good spectrum of awesome game, it doesnt requires a DVD remote to watch the movies, plus a number of games you can download and burn with ease makes it attractive to me, and since they are launching their hard drive attachment, I can say that PS2 will still be around for a while.

Well the HD they are attaching ONLY works with the new Final Fantasy for now....and they are charging out the wazoo for that... it's like 100 buck, but at least you get a game too; have to pay MONTHLY to play it online though.

I agree that PS2 is #1, but the X has some cool features. Although you need a special remote, it comes packed with a HDD already. You can also rip games to that HDD and play your own music in games! Also, the X has a built in Ethernet adaptor; PS2 don't..

They all have weaknesses and strengths

Personally, I never saw a good reason to own a console until the Xbox came out.
Unlike all consoles which were always inferior to PCs even at their launch, the Xbox was the very first console to outstrip PCs at its launch.

Of course, soon PCs surpassed it, but I haven't actually upgraded my PC since I got my Xbox back in 2001 :-)

No one can deny that the PS2 gets more games and many games ship there first, but I hate the fact that it's such a weak piece of hardware, that any games that makes it to PS2 first or as part of a multiplatform release doesn't get to utilize the full power of the superior platforms due to the developer's lower-common denominator approach. As a result, for example, we get washed-out textures on Xbox/GC even though they're much more superior at handling those.

If you compare games made for the Xbox from the ground up to equivalent ones on the PS2, there simply is NO comparison.
A look at games like Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Brute Force, Splinter Cell, and Dead or Alive 3, etc. should be enough.

However, it terms of gameplay, I have to admit that I like the games made by several Japanese companies, and those usually end up on the PS2 only/first. I'm sure that's partly patriotism in action here :-)

Of course, the PS2 was a good piece of hardware for its time, but the problem is that it came so much earlier than the rest that it can't help show its age. I'm glad the next gen of consoles would probably come out at the same time and thus would likely have similar capabilities. That means that multi-platform games written to the lower-common denominator would still look great on all platforms.

To respond to the original question. I think the PS2 price will drop to match the Xbox, probably by May. It doesn't make any sense for Nintendo to lower the GC price, however, since it can't sell it for less than the GBA SP!

I think people hate the Xbox just because it's from Microsoft which is not really fair. I mean just look at the difference between Splinter Cell on the Xbox and the PS2 for example, I've seen them both and the Xbox version looks a lot better.

A few months ago, I was debating on either buying an X-Box or a PS2. I could not make up my mind, so I spent the money on Katja Kassin DVDs instead. In my opinion, that was a much smarter purchase.

I have heard though that the PS2 is going to be selling for less than $100.00 by next X-Mas. I will have to put one on my X-Mas list.

I'm waiting for all three to drop below the $60 mark, then I'll buy 'em all in one shot. Heck, I didn't get my PS1 until it dropped below $100.

(I'm what they would call a casual gamer, though back in my 'teens, I used to hustle suckers out of cash, as well as jimmy the locks on machines, and basically play for free at the local arcade, and I still had my SNES, long after the new crop of platforms were released.)
