That's the whole point of the series -- casual, low-rez, slice-of-life home movies. Porn girls without makeup. Hang out in the park with Phoenix Marie. Watch Samantha Ryan brush her teeth, and play the piano. (Not at once.) Wince at how ugly a lot of SoCal rental housing is, and wonder about what Manuel's lease payments on that Bentley are. Play miniature golf with London Keyes and strain to hear her over the traffic roar from the 19-lane interstate that's right next to the miniature golf course. (I think I may have been to that one once. Or maybe they're *all* next to 19 lane highways down there; who knows?) Eat a muffin that was just baked with love by Charley Chase. Set the camera down on a chair and start boning Zoe Voss and try not to roll over onto and crush her cat. I think they're great -- way more interesting to me than generic porno at this point.
Given Manuel has other lines using these same girls with all the bells & whistles, clearly it's an aesthetic choice. You can get professional sheen in Slutty and Sluttier if you want. This is clearly marketed at something more gritty and intimate. Suggesting it's incompetence is like complaining about the poor camera work in The Blair Witch Project or Cloverfield. Unless one believes that Charley Chase is either too lazy to put her makeup on or too cheap to buy some it's clearly meant to look this way and that giant, distracting booger in her nose in the last few minutes of the scene aside, it works for me. If you'd seen any of the Raw series, which I highly doubt, you'd know that the guy has to spend more time just arranging for, and in some cases participating in, the day-in-the-life/hang out/BTS footage that precedes the actual sex parts then he does in making entire all-sex movies (where all he has to do is show up somewhere and fuck some girl for an hour and go home). He wouldn't be doing that if he was trying to be lazy. In other news, Zoe Voss has never had a booger.
It should be mentioned that I have only seen photos of her, no actual scenes so far, so I really can't have much of an opinion yet. I don't think I'm crazy.

Agree with everything here, I think Raw 5 is also one of Manuel's best, with Zoe, Charlie and London all knocking it out of the park. As for the A/V, compare this to the SOV productions of the 80s, 90s, even the early 00s and it looks great in comparison.
