^Marking every critic as "hate" is totally wrong. The only one that used here the word "hate" here was the same Zoe referring to her fake tits. I don't see any "hater" here, there are just some genuine fans that in the past have spent money fo her and supported her everywhere and that now are less or more disappointed for her aesthetic changes and/or for her retirement. If this disappointment is expressed in an appropriate manner, I don't see where is the problem here, even if I don't see any reason, at this point, to keep on discussing about her. My best to her and a good life outside porn.
If I may....these women are in a very competitive beauty conscious industry and they realize the more alluring they look (also allowing for performance) the better their chances of continued success. They are under a lot of pressure to look their best. Some posters seem to think they can just fire off criticism without thinking of the performers (who are nice enough to be here) sensitivities. Please try to be diplomatic at the very least. I guess I sound somewhat pompous, but the performer's input is very important and we should appreciate their generosity with their time.
^^ You seem to take everything we say as an insult. That's not the case. (Though looking back on it, i did come off as a prick and i apologize)
I was merely referring to the first guy's comment about competitiveness in the porn industry; pointing out that your no longer a part of it. Why would Zoe want to compete with women doesn't have any business with? (Please correct me on that last part) _______________________________________ Edited by - unreliable narrator on 8/24/2012 5:42:02 PM
^ maybe she's not competing maybe she just wasn't happy the way she was and wanted to look better , or at least better in her eyes , which are the only eyes that matter.
The point I was driving at in my perhaps clumsy way was we should try to think before we just fire off a missive. I'm no genius, but at least I do try to carefully reread any post before I hit the send button. Whether Zoe Voss is or is not currently a performer we should realize she (or any other performer) might be seeing what we're putting out there. In fact I'm kind of impressed she actually bothers to read this board considering some of the "slings and arrows" she's endured. I think the majority here are grateful for her participation and insight since she's actually involved (or was recently involved) in the industry. Any way I'm always looking out for any photo posts since I think she's an exceptionally attractive woman. There's a casual photo I believe taken by the lovely Lexi Bloom of Zoe that made me smile a few pages upstream. Might take me longer to get to the level of senior member, but I hope I don't trample over any one else.

She looked like a runway model, all natural and ready to go. That made her unique and beautiful in the porn business. That is over. Not happy with the implants and tatts but she is retired and it's her life. Good luck

^Yeah I'm sorry she got the tats and implants as well. Her all natural look when she got into the industry was great. [mod edit: No need to quote the post directly above, please use the up arrow ^ instead, thx.] Edited by - Jonny Jay on 8/27/2012 10:59:09 AM
I find this kind of attitude pretty repellant. This logic would suggest any alterations or augmentations of the body on a porn performer is *for* the viewer, as if you somehow their body parts must be *for* porn and belong to the consumer. Is it so hard to believe that a person might alter or augment their body for themselves? You know, for that life they have off camera? The confusion expressed regarding getting implants and then not using them on camera says a lot about how you view a performer's relationship to their body and to their sex work. It's as if they are pieces of machinery being updated and rebooted for your pleasure, with no possible autonomous drives or desires on their part. [Please note, I am not solely picking on you Roland; you just had the most concise articulation of this opinion]
Well I suppose I could ignore the reality that porn girls are in the business of selling themselves (not in a bad way) and their beauty/features and constantly trying to improve those things. I think it takes a degree of cognitive dissonance to think about a porn star getting implants (like so many do) within weeks of retiring and not thinking about how those two things relate to each other. If it was separated by more time I wouldn't think about or care (or even know about) it.
It didn't cause me any cognitive dissonance knowing that many women get implants to feel better about themselves or fit better in their clothes. Cognitive dissonance usually occurs from mistaken beliefs or expectations. What did you do to reduce the dissonance since you mentioned cognitive dissonance theory?
I'm sorry, was I talking to you? You can go ahead and suspend your disbelief that she wanted to feel better about her body and how she fit in her clothes immediately after leaving a business where those are requirements of the job (not to mention the modeling even before that) and yet didn't give those considerations a thought while she was in the midst of that industry - only coincidentally right after she left. We aren't talking about a random 23 year old dental assistant in Illinois (The "many people get implants" crowd) getting work done. If you want to partition your brain to separate what we know, go for it. This is a silly discussion anyway. I've said elsewhere in the thread I think she's great. I think she looked great pre-boobs and didn't attack her post-enhancement. I think she looks better than ever.
I'm just sorry all the earlier negative comments probably drove Zoe away. She seemed like a very interesting person and her interactivity made this place a lot more lively.
The funny part is that he's actually met her and you never have, so he probably knows a hell of a lot more about her mental state and why she did it than you ever will. Edit: And some girls actually get work done (implants or tattoos) after they leave distinctly because they know that their body is a product, and any changes to that product have the ability to hurt business. Once they leave, they can do whatever they want to their bodies and not have to worry about how it will affect their earning potential. Edited by - whatsatelephonebill on 9/5/2012 7:17:37 PM
I'm sorry, were you discussing this assertion in a private email or a fucking public forum? You mentioned cognitive dissonance then and have all these presumptions on what should go on in a porn star's mind in your speculation. I am asking how you resolved that dissonance? That is unless you didn't have it in the first place.
I didn't posit any supposition about what goes on in a porn star's mind in general or this specific case. I talked about the interesting timing of a retirement AND an alteration that is VERY common, often encouraged and viewed as an asset in the industry she just left. I didn't even speculate on her thinking, so that's in your imagination. I didn't say I had cognitive dissonance, I said it takes some to keep your knowledge of the porn business and a porn star's actions completely separated and dismiss any possibility that they might influence each other.
What's funny is you're pinning opinions on me that I've never expressed. I only said it was strange timing. I didn't even start to pretend to know why she did anything. I just pointed out that's it counter intuitive when looking at the business as a whole and how things trend. I don't know or care why she got implants. I don't object to them either. For all I care she did it because her dog told her to. I was attacked for commenting on how the order of events were against the grain (which they are) so I'm defending myself. I have no knowledge of why, and don't pretend to or demand to have it. Also, I have met her once, so you're wrong about that - even so, meeting someone doesn't make me/you/him an authority on their "mental state."
You had specifically mentioned cognitive dissonance as an explanation of someone's reaction in interpreting a sudden retirement after surgery which broached my curiosity considering my understanding of cognitive dissonance theory, which is a social theory of one's own dissonant actions. Now that you clarified that you didn't have the dissonance, what would you speculate as to people's reactions considering that under the theory they attempt to reduce the dissonance through changing some factor like their presumptions? Gore gore girl had posited these people just had fucked up notions that these girls should do things only for the demands of their fans or the pressures of the industry.
I didn't shit anything up. I'm getting attacked now by two people about something I wrote a month ago that drew no objection at the time. Get on them if you have a problem.
I never said it must. But is she denying that it sometimes (or even often) is? I said it takes some cognitive dissonance to talk about porn stars and alterations they make as mutually exclusive and never influencing the other. All you have to do is look around to see that. Tons are altered. Alterations are discussed, hoped for, loathed on this very site and this very thread. An individual case may indeed be a pure choice not based on their work and/or fans. I never ruled that out. Gore Girl seemed upset by the implication that they COULD POSSIBLY be related. You're both arguing against a point I never made. As you said in your last line: That porn stars "should" do things because of fan demands. I don't agree with that. But they often do. I don't get the point in denying it.
No, you don't seem to understand. You used a specific term, cognitive dissonance, which was introduced by social psychologists as part of a theory that explains how people reconcile conflicting behaviour and thoughts. I am wondering how that theory would explain the poster who ends up bitching about how Ms. Voss got implants but ended up retiring instead.
This is the last time I'm spelling it out for you. If you want to continue arguing against yourself after this, have at it. First of all, I'm not talking about someone bitching about her getting implants and then retiring. I was talking about someone with 6,147 posts on a porn board finding the idea that body augmentation for a girl in porn might be influenced by their business sense/opportunities "repellent." http://psychology.about.com/od/cognitivepsychology/f/dissonance.htm In this case the conflict: - Taking an interest in adult movies and stars, so much so that you read, join and post on a board. Ostensibly taking in plenty of empirical information about how the business works, from to producers to performers to fans. Seeing the common trajectory of a career and where alterations usually occur and why. Or in short, being aware that the business is one of marketing yourself. while - Being upset with a comment about the counterintuitive nature of basically paying for what many people would consider an upgrade in earning potential while leaving that industry. (* Her individual reasoning is irrelevant - the reality is the reality. No matter why she did it, she checked a box that a lot of producers and fans have.) So to have some kind of negative moral reflex about how business works while immersing yourself in it as a "Senior Member" is probably going to need to be rectified.
Ahhh so you're attributing cognitive dissonance to Ms. Gore Gore Girl. Yeah, I'm just going to disagree with its use to explain or comment on her reaction. I think that's just a fundamental attribution error. Edited by - morbidthoughts on 9/8/2012 8:06:59 PM
Jesus Christ. I can't believe Zoe's thread has gone to absolute shit. You guys don't know a good thing when you see it. I for one am incredibly sad that Zoe has left the industry. She was one of the most unique girls to enter the biz in a long time, always gave a fantastic performance, and a lot of you are completely ruining Zoe's image by having your dumb petty arguments in her thread.
^ & ^^ Although I agree that the thread has derailed. What extaly can anyone do about it since we can't really talk about how great Zoe's new scene is or how thrilled we are for her upcoming movie. She is gone and I don't think that she's coming back. You guys can always try to bring the thread back on track but other than reminiscing about a past scene or how great she was then what else are you going to talk about?
In ADT search, a title "Brunettes" appears as one of her works, just after "All Girl" and just before "Carwash Orgy." It seems odd to me because the film only includes B/G scenes, but Zoe Voss had not shot any B/G scene for 3RD Degree by then. Is the entry messed up or something? Anyone know which film is her scene originally from if she is in fact in this title? Thanks.
I get the impression that she doesn't really enjoy porn, and has absolutely no plans to make a comeback. Which is a huge shame, because I stand by my thoughts that she was one of the most unique and beautiful women to enter the industry. Unique in the sense that I can't believe someone like would even enter in the first place. She had great energy in her performances, and she didn't dodge cum in the slightest.
^ ^ I think Eli Cross posted somewhere that Zoe was an executive producer for that James Deen project "Cowboys and Engines" which is a mainstream attempt.
Zoe's modeling...runway and editorial. [mod edit: let's leave her real name and personal page out of this] Edited by - killbillvol69 on 12/3/2013 7:42:07 AM
