scipio Senior Member 1901 Posts 2/00	Posted - Apr 8 2002 : 5:14AM I'm not a UK-based ADT'er, but I'd imagine that if the package gets inspected by HMCustoms, or has the value of $100 on the customs sticker that you will indeed get hit for duty/VAT. Basically if somebody had to examine each and every package, to see if the declaration exceeded £18 and calculate the sum due, then nothing would move. Having said that large parcels are obviously going to be a target. Some retailers are more "helpful" with value declarations too. Good Luck! [Link]
ShiWarrior Senior Member 1170 Posts 8/01	Posted - Apr 8 2002 : 1:10PM So what are you two saying ? what if i ordered say $100 worth of DVD's baring in mind i would use the "Envelope" kind of shipping method to keep the "bulkage" down (say 4-5 titles) Do u think i have a good chance of missing customs charges ? or do u think i would be a target due to the cost of $100 on the envelope ? but being as it's small, it could get through un-touched. What if i did get hit and they still sent on the DVD's ? would they bill me for the goods ? or would there be a letter inside saying "please pay X amount in 30 days" type of thing. The reason why i ask, I live with my mum and 2 sisters here (LET ME OUT!!) and i need to know what would hapen if i'm not home , as i work 5 days a week (long days). Last time I was hit by customs the postman put a card through the door telling me my parcel wasn't delivered because there was a charge due. I then had to go to the sorting office, pay up and collect my parcel. The post office also levy a charge for collecting the customs duty. [Link]

Click to expand I have had to pay Duty on all my orders that were over £18 and was declared on the Declaration. It's more than likely you will be charged if it said $100 on the front. In my experience all declaration forms are examined and stamped by C&E. Click to expand If you get hit you have to pay the postie when he delivers your porn. C&E calculates what Duty is owed plus a Post Office handling charge. I have used a courier like UPS and they pay the Duty themselves up front and bill you for the costs. This was because the true value was Declared by the retailer possibly for insurance purposes. Best to check with a retailer what their policy is.
