This is more than just getting something for nothing. This is the male ritual of hunting and killing stuff while scratching our nuts. Instead of buying guns and bright orange gay nightclub camo gear, the 4chan pirates bought video cards, torrent accounts, and Red Bull IV kits. Standing between a 4chan pirate and his booty gets the same result as trying to take guns away from a redneck. The solution is simple: include guns with porn dvds.

Can you put on a live sex show and charge people for admission? Not in most states.
Music and porn are apples and oranges. It's pointless to compare them. Musicians make the most money when they manage themselves and do regular gigs. Do they sell millions of records and make tens of millions of dollars? Probably not, but with the internet they can promote themselves easier than ever. In the beginning that's what records were, promotional material to get people to come to their shows. Everybody was more than happy to share their music with everyone else and real fans still do, except for douchebags with no friends who hoard their crappy progrock. Hell, the Grateful Dead never cared one bit that people bootlegged their shows and even encouraged it. Support musicians by going to see their shows. They're too lazy to put on shows? Screw 'em.
At any rate, the porn industry is eventually going to move to something similar the currently evolving music industry method. Girls will do occasional webcasts or promo videos to get guys to come see them live at strip clubs; as far as I've heard they make more money stripping once or twice a week regularly than they make on video shoots now anyways. The only people left out in the cold are once again the worthless middlemen: the store owners and distributors who are now irrelevant, the companies who screw over their talent with locked-in one-sided contracts, and "agents" who take money for doing little more than asking their buddy at a company to put their girls in a film.
Yeah, I'm not in the industry, I don't know anything, blah, blah, blah.
tl;dr New Economy: If it's not in person, it's promotional advertising; stop expecting to get paid for it.

This may be true, but it sounds very, very boring.

Court Orders Expedited Discovery in XPays v. Does (AVN)
LOS ANGELES — XPays attorney Michael Fattorosi is certainly doing something right in his copyright infringement lawsuit filed in January against 843 anonymous John Does accused of illegally downloading One Night in Paris, the infamous 2004 sex tape featuring hotel chain heiress Paris Hilton and Rick Solomon, then her boyfriend. Fattorosi won an expedited discovery from U.S. District Court Judge S, James Otero, who issued his order March 3.

Fine, people shouldn't violate copyrights. But is this really any less indefensible?
