If I press "refresh" on the active topics page, many unread topics disappear from the list. If I then look at those topics in the normal forum index, they are marked as "read" even though I have never opened them. (i.e. the folder icons are yellow instead of blue.) Is this a bug?
I think what you're experiencing is that they are no longer active (i.e. newly active since your last visit), even if your last visit was only minutes or seconds ago.
No - the fact that they are not shown on the active topics screen is not the problem. They are marked as "read" in the normal index. The active topics screen is marking them read even though I have not looked at them.
Is the active topics page your "landing page" at this site? i.e. Did you bookmark the active topics page so it's the very first page you visit when coming to ADT.
The color change doesn't indicate that you've "read" a topic. A yellow indicates that there are no new posts in the topic since your last visit if you've never read a topic.
If you've never read a topic the forum uses a last--visited-date cookie stored in your browser to determine how to generate the yellow or blue folder for that topic. IF you have read a topic within the previous two-week period the folder ignores your cookie and instead uses the value stored in the database for your prior topic read date/time. So if you've never read a topic the yellow/blue is dependent on when the last visited date cookie is being set. I asked about the active topics page being the first page in a session to determine if that's where the error might be in setting the cookie.
Kinda right. It's most likely a bug. The unread topics are showing up on the active topics page and then they disappear after a refresh. This makes me think the the the last-here data is being improperly reset on the active topics page. There's some special logic in the active topics page to properly handle search engine spiders since they don't accept cookies. I'm thinking there's a bug in there somewhere.
Hi Drew. My landing page is the forum index page that shows a list of available forums. My browser bookmark is https://forum.adultdvdtalk.com/forum/ From that page, I click the "active topics" link at the top right to view active topics. I'm not sure when my "last visited" cookie is set, but the erroneous change from blue to yellow is happening during a single visit. I think it only happens if I manually refresh the active topics screen in the browser. Could this refresh be updating the date on the "last visit" cookie?
More data: It doesn't happen on every refresh. Today I refreshed the active topics screen a few times and everything seemed to work normally. Maybe on the fourth or fifth refresh, about a hundred topics disappeared from the list. After that, when I looked in the forum index, a number of topics I had never opened had changed from blue to yellow. Some topics with recent unread posts stayed blue. These were all topics that I had looked at in the last few days, but not today.
I'm experiencing this problem too. Originally I thought a yellow folder icon meant no one had posted in that thread since I had. Today I checked on a few threads and there were literally hundreds of posts from the past few weeks/months that I had missed out on! I'm trying to keep up to date on certain threads but it's hard to do when it's like this. Can this be resolved? 'refresh list' does nothing.
When you click on 'My Topics' in the top right corner, it takes you to recent topics. Then... 100 most recent topics you posted in: [refresh this list]
