Hi,

I run on windows 98 2nd edition...(trying to avoid the feeling that I need to prefaces this info with an apology... )

Is this what is preventing me from d.loading and or viewing 'some' porn/adult sites clips?

There is one site, actually a few that I've had mod. to very good success with, but there is one site that I love however felt compelled to cancel...

any advice?

What browser are you using? That might be more important than the OS you're running.

could be a codec issue.

www.free-codecs.com

I would recommend FFdshow video codec.

1st off, thank you both for taking the time...for general browsing I use Fire Fox..but I've had much greater success for d.loading one or two particular porn sites using IE...

as far as codec's and ffd.show....were you suggesting I d.load this?

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm

and if I do, do I need to do anything after I d.load this program?...or does it run on it's on...meaning I just go back to the site and try again...see what happens?

further, I don't know if this helps or not but the particular site that I'm 'hot' for is, "In the Vip"...which is part of a network of porn sites called, "www.allsitesaccess.com"

either way, thanks again...much appreciated

Yes you can download this. Its not a program, but rather a
video decoder. This codec support divx, xvid, and Mpeg 4 encoded video files. So if you download a video encoded in either format, you should have no prob. viewing once you have FFdshow installed. Upon reading your 1st post, I thought this was you case, I checked out the "VIP" website.

The sample trailers, show the files as WMV "windows media
video" If the videos on the site are also WMV, it could mean that you need to update your Windows Media Player (which will include newer WMV video codecs.) I Current version of
windows media player is windows media player 11.

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Windows_Media_Player.htm

You can try that also to see if that solves any video viewing prob.

I have been reluctant to upgrade Media Player beyond version 9 because of rumors that later versions contain ugly DRM hacks and privacy busting malware from Microsoft. Can anyone comment on what the risks are with upgrading?

Well, I was about to write back and say, because I do run on Win 98, unfortunately I'm unable to d.load the suggested win. media player (11) as the sys. requirments are not suited, apparently, for moi...however after reading licker's comment, mabe it's for the best...digressing a bit, someone suggested to me the other day that win 98 maybe a bit safer to run with as those who do create virus/worms are not writing them, anymore, for my ancient os...?

Anyway, I still intend to d.load the "video decoder" FFdshow but, I'm wondering, if this will assist in d.loading "allowed" video clips the site in question offers?...after re-reading kukm4's comment it sounds as though the codec is more suited to assist with viewing vs. archiving...I didn't make myself very clear initially because was concerned about this forum's rules in that, I thought, I read something to the effect here discussing d.loading off sites was discouraged...regardless, if this decoder does work, and I will report back regarding this, I'll be a happy and healthy perv simply hopping about viewing my fav. sites.

Finally however, my experience with d.loading allowable clips with the browser IE has been much more succesful compared to Fire Fox...it lets me, sometimes restart where I left off when a d.load stalls. Although, with this site, "In the Vip" this wasn't the case...for instance, a clip would stall ie. 16%...no big deal...start over. But when you get to 90 something percent, and have to start over...thats depressing enough to cancel your membership to said site...any further advice?

With regards to downloading, you may want to try a download
manager. One I've used is called Flash Get

http://www.flashget.com/en/download.htm

It offers the pause button, so you can resume your download, if you need to stop for whatever reason (few site will start dowload from the begining, fyi). One you install flashget. You
will want to move your cursor over the "download" link. Then
you want to "right-click" press the right hand side mouse button. That will give you a Menu. Choose the option
[Download Using Flasget]

When you files are done they will be in a folder called downloads C:\downloads

There is a Firefox extension that works in conjuction with
Flash Get called Flash Got.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/220

This will add the Download in Firefox. Same process as above
only it will say [Flash Got Link]

Another option could be to use another Firefox extension called Download Them All.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201

For this one you want to move cursor at any place on the
page. The again Right-Click, choose option
"Download Them All" You will get a Small window.
At the TOP you will see 2 tabs. First one called
Links and the 2nd one called Pictures and Embeded.

Start with links section. If youy see your video file/s there and check [x] them off.
[Video: will be *.avi, *.mpg, *.mov,]
If you dont see it in Links section, then try the other one.
once you have selected what you want to download,
Press the Start button.

Hope you did not have any plans this weekend :P

Hopefully this will solve your downlaod issues.

If stalled downloads is your problem then I'm not sure the browser is at fault. This sounds more like a connectivity issue.

What type of internet connection do you have?

I share a cable connection with my neighbor upstairs. Their wireless, and I have a direct connection to the router. Any further info. suggestions re: connection would be very welcome...but for now, my weekend will be complete with attempts to follow "kukm4" ideas...

Is your neighbor's wireless router relatively new? Most cable companies offer up to 10Mbps connections. An 802.11g wireless connection could easily eat up all that available bandwidth if they're downloading a movie or other large file.

lukemason: I work a couple of p.time gigs: drive a local truck and bar tend/wait on tables...in addition, I'm the "older-returning-perpetual" student...so I'm generally broke...happy yet 'po'...what'cha got?....also, I've been working freebie sites attempting to get a free pc>>>>down the road.

kukm4: Just finished d.loading "Flash Get" download manager...no success there either...seems to be stuck in an endless loop...however, thanks for the idea...

hardware: the router is 802.11g...good call...here again though, and I have no idea if this adds anything to the idea of my neighbor d.loading large files or movies (which I don't get the impression that they are...who knows...) but if they are, it's certainly not when I try to d.load my porn, which for me 99% of the time is daytime, while their at work...again, thank you all for the input...don't stop now we can do this...all though I'm getting the feeling that it's most likely a factor of catching up with the times...if you want good results you generally use/get good tools, right?

I'm dumb.... I forgot to mention one thing.
I forgot this was for membership site.
Chance are you need to add the login password.
So same steps as I mentioned in last post.

"Then
you want to "right-click" press the right hand side mouse button. That will give you a Menu. Choose the option
[Download Using Flasget"

Once you do that, You get a Flash Get Window that lets you say where you would with options right. Now if you look half way down and to the left,
you see a box [ ] called LOGIN IN TO SERVER.
Try checking that box [x] , Then entering your login / password. Then press OK to begin your downlaod.

Sorry about that. If this works and you plan to download multiple files,
and you dont want to type your login / password everytime.
You can avoid this by making it your New default. So when you type your login/password if you go further down on left side you will see a button called
SAVE AS DEFAULT. What that will do is, that it will remember that login/pass information so you wont need to type it time and again. If you ever want to clear that information, you just Clear those 2 boxes blank and press the SAVE AS DEFAULT button once more.

Crossing my fingers.

Hope this time it works.

lukemason; I'm hardly in the know here regarding shopping for a new system, but isn't this a superior product/system at a fraction of the price?
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?Lprice=200&Hprice=499.99&CatId=6
item: H24-RT784
regardless, thank you for the input and, btw, just who is that in your profile avatar/pic?...

kukm4: I hope you get this message...I was reviewing what you had written here earlier and I see that I never followed your original advice...didn't d.load the codec thingy you suggested (FFDshow)...well I did this morning but havn't installed yet...I'm wondering if I do, am I suppose to incorporate the flashget file manager with the ffdshow 'video decoder' and if so, how?...further, as for loggin on to flashget, I don't see anywhere on the 'flashget' site, where I d.loaded the file manager from, to log on too/with..? Also, after d.loading the file manager, I did see where the flashget manager asked for a log in name and a pass word, but that was for the adult site that I was attempting to d.load video's from (this is not the site, "in the vip"...just a practice site if you will)

Finally, sense I'm months away from upgrading/purchasing a new system, I'm wondering if anyone out here, if they happen to read this, is there a way for a person with an upgraded quality system to d.load vids from the site "In the VIP" and send files to me, for something in exchange of course...yet to be determined, I guess...just thinking/writing out loud.

WinZip

A ZIP file is a file or collection of files that have been compressed so they take up less space (and download faster). You need a copy of the compression program to decompress them so they can be used.

The FFdhow codec will only help if you are having prob. viewing the video. In cases where you can clearly see a Runtime 10min..ect and you can hear the audio but the Video
is blank. In those cases its a video codec issue. FFdshow
will help with that.

Like hardware said, Winzip is good for ZIP files. You
can also use a free alternative called 7zip
http://www.7-zip.org/

Assuming you have Flashget Installed. I tryed to make a
video guide. I dont have a mic so I was not able to
talk you through it. But I hope the video will give you the
gist of it.

http://www.flurl.com/item/FlashGet_Guide_u_245630

(you can zoom to go fullscreen)

I used Internet explorer in this example.
What you see is a page with 4 downloadable videos.
The 1st method I used was the Option to download all.
Just follow the steps and settings.

At 1:52 mark, I shows how you could just download 1 file.
but I also included (2:15 mark) where you would enter your
Login pass word in those cases where your trying to download
from paid site (VIP).

Let me know how it goes.

leapoffaith i am sure that one of those would be ok for you .

but i am worried with Tech Support and warranty and the
fact that they say they are Referbed is not good neither
cuz it's ben referbed for a reason i would always go with
a newer product .

regarding my earlier question: "is there a way for a person with an upgraded quality system to d.load vids from the site "In the VIP" and send files and or CD's to me, for something in exchange of course...yet to be determined..." I intend to post this question in the dvd trade forum, but is there anyone here interested?...
